Knowing just from sharpening skates (which are not even anywhere close to the sharpness of a katana (about a 1:500 ratio if i were to guess) Anyways from my experience skates can easily slice skin and flesh so a sharpened sword could probably do the same damage with much more ease. I'm not surprised to hear that the burglar was dead from bleeding once the cops got there. It was self defense. If anything they should go back and charge the judge for letting someone that is a piece of crap out of jail so quickly. From what I read it was all done in one strike. I would be more likely to use a gun than a sword, but scare me in the middle of the night . . . I think surprise attacks and intruders get what they deserve sometimes in self defending justice.
