Wow...fine, I'm sorry. It was just a joke.

Let's all be frands again, kay?

Maybe I was a little bit mad. Maybe a couldn't take a joke. But last time I saw a bunch of Americans die in a plane the whole world came crying for them. I happen to be French and I don't enjoy other people making fun of my nationality, that's it.

P.S. I don't have anything against you Colin. But I don't see anything wrong in him being demoted. He's calling us a Nazi clan and he's insulting a nation as a "joke". Aside from the fact that this thread is not really the best for throwing jokes out.

I know what you mean about the 9/11 attacks. It was completely ridiculous. Hundreds of thousands of people are dying in wars all the time in Africa and the Middle East but when a few thousand Americans die it's the end of the world for everyone.

P.S. I called WG a Nazi clan AFTER I got demoted..so you can't use that as a reason to demote me. tongue.gif

Colin let's talk on IRC some time about this.
I'm not happy about this either but I have to stand by my policy.
I feel like a dick for pushing aside all your years of hard work.
I know what its like to have that forgotten.
I accept your apology and I look forward to speaking to you.

well..more bodies found.

as for how the plane went down. it seems that their biggest mistake was trusting the plane could fly thru those conditions. their trust was one that led them to take a risk and apparently the plane failed.

human error.

Ummm...

What?

Last I looked at had been pretty much conclusively proven that it wasnt blown up. About the only thing they're sure about.

ok, my dad was a B52 Pilot, biggest bomber in the Air Force....he also flew C5's...a large cargo plane....he knows his shit about planes....pretty much he told me at his job, where he is a northcom contractor working for NORAD there is hell of a lot of discussion about it and terrorism, and taht planes dont just go down(not passenger planes) from run of the mill storms way up in the air.....nor do they disappear from radar randomly.===Bomb

I may not agree with Colin's joke... but I do think stripping him from his rank is a little excessive.
I can relate to your position, though, Gene.

I've noticed this about people -- primarily young people; people of our generation:
I've seen some brutal footage of people getting killed, on the internet. I'm sure some of you seen them too. In some cases, a person's death would be caught on camera, in clear view, just as it happens.

... And guess how many "lol" and "owned" comments are made on them. It's easy to simply nod and giggle... but when you realize what they're laughing about, it's actually pretty disgusting.

Everyone has family, in one form or another. What if the people had children?
Think of how it feels to lose a friend or family member. It's impossible to truly describe the kind of pain caused by the loss of a loved one.
This is general knowledge, isn't it? People in the world have at least enough compassion to understand the significance of death, don't they? And yet... some assholes, sitting in front of their computers, think it's alright to laugh and publicly comment about the whole thing -- like it's no big deal -- it's funny.

Shit. I can't express how deeply that irks me...

With all that said, however, I think Colin was only slightly skimming those waters.
He didn't make any direct insults towards the passengers of the plane, only the country they were from; the nation, not specifically the people involved. Bearing this in mind, although I agree that his joke was insensitive and full of shit, he didn't say anything extremely out-of-line.

On another note, I have a certain appreciation for France. It's one of my favorite countries, with one of my favorite cultures. I'm Asian, and there are a lot of things in the general East-Asian culture that goes over many westerners' heads. Similarly, I think the French are largely misunderstood.

I'm sorry to hear about the crash. Part of me hopes the majority of them somehow survived, but the other part of me knows it's very improbable. The amount of plane crashes in the past decade is ridiculous. Somebody, somewhere is making mistakes...

well, we do know it wasn't a bomb. reason being is the readings that took place unless the bomb in question is a small device use to deactivate the electronics of the plane. then we are talking about a cell phone or possibly a device strong enough to knock off or disturb in-flight equipment to the point of inactivity. it took 4 minutes for all hell to break lose. in that amount of time a c4 would have definitely have killed them all in the split of a second. with that said there is a possibility that the plane broke apart on fall due to the last minute of cabin pressure being lost. either that or the plane hat reached the water at that precise instant and plunged into the sea.
