Yeah, I'm gonna end up seeing it like 5 times because all my friends want to go and so does my family. I honestly don't mind. It's really good.

I watched it Bootleg last night, I enjoyed the film, I plan on seeing it in Imax/3D soon. Definitely worth paying money for. Lol

Not only was it a Pocahontas story, but you could make an argument for the war in Iraq too, the element stuff the marines were trying to obtain, 'unobtanium' = Oil. Also they never got it in the end, 'un-obtainable'

in terms of action, scenery, and all that stuff, EPIC MOVIE. in terms of story and lame names for minerals, meh. it was a standard cliche movie of war and love and all that, but ffs it looked amazing.

Unobtanium is actually a word, and makes perfect sense given the setting. I'm glad Cameron didn't go into specifics with what they were actually after on Pandora, it would have distracted from the storyline too much.

The effects are cool, I wonder why I wanted to do the blue chick after the movie.

I liked the first part of the movie when he progressively masters the Naavi skills, but the end is too long.

But seriously, the plot sucks. So predictable.

I watched it Christmas day with the family.

These days, I scrutinize how the story is delivered more than what the story is about... because any legitimate story can be amazing with a good story-telling technique, in my opinion. And Avatar is no exception. It did a considerably good job of immersing the audience into its world. The wildlife, people, and landscapes made many references to the real world, and that helped shape an attachment to the storyline.

Although its philosophical value was shallow to a degree, I think it was effective at stimulating the mind. And that's what caught a lot of people's attention. What it lacks in epiphanic depth it makes up for in appealing presentation and concept.

The huge public hype initially made me wary (Transformers and Snakes on a Plane were dissapointing, to say the least), but it was better than I expected.
It was a beautiful movie -- technically and artistically.
With all that said, I did have one notable problem with the movie... and that was when Grace died. I feel I didn't care as much as I probably should have.
I was more affected when the helicopter pilot died... and I don't even remember her name. lol

You're not supposed to care for Grace dying, the whole thing is that she's at peace and harmony with nature or some bs.

Third time, still awesome. woeh.gif

My friend was a philistine though, couldn't take the tall blue aliens seriously whatsoever.
My only misgiving is at the end; the Na'Vi didn't send any sort of envoy back to Earth. So now like... what... humans come back in a decade and totally vaporize them? They must have two space transports going back and forth in a rotation for them to keep the schedules they refer to in the movie, so the second is actually inbound at the end.

All they need is the Unobtanium, they could nuke Pandora to hell and back from orbit and it wouldn't hurt their profits whatsoever. I guess they're just hoping that the total secession of activity on Pandora for 5-6 years would wreck the corporation so much that they won't be able to finance the hostile takeover of an entire planet.
Official budget: $237 million

Other estimates put it at $280-310 million to produce, and $150 million for marketing.

So yeah, they might have spent half a billion dollars making this movie. ph34r.gif ...no worries though, in the first week they've already made all their money back and then some...

I found a pretty good copy on the internet of Avatar if anyone doesn't feel like paying the $10 to see it but I have to say it would probably be worth it.

Also, the helicopter chick was really hot.

Saw it pirated twice now, subtitles were in Russian so I didn't know what was going on half the time, but figured it out pretty quickly thereafter so it's all good. Will probably see it in theaters as it's one of the only movies that actually has had me say "Oh shit".

Also, did some browsing on the wikia for the movie, and apparently the company mining the planet, the RDA, was granted their monopoly on interspace commerce provided they abide by a treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons and limiting military power in space, so in all probability, their forces on Pandora were all they were legally allowed to commit, and since any future expeditions would have to secure a landing zone AND fortify it, all while probably being under siege by the native population (they only got a foothold in the first place because the Na'vi were tolerant), since if they're smart, they'll hold on to Hell's Gate. Since orbital bombardment is out of the question, that'd be their only option to resume any form of large-scale mining operation. So in short, yeah, the RDA is screwed. woeh.gif

Also, don't think they could have sent an ambassador anyways, since our atmosphere would *probably* be poisonous to them, and we don't have any breathing things for them to use so ya.
