Should marijuana be legalized? Yes. It should be treated like cigarettes are.
If so why, if not why not?Tax the hell out of it. If people want to smoke it still, then they will be supporting our country. It will lower the prison rates, as I would say a good 5% if not higher, of the people that currently are in the US prisons, are in there because of marijuana. This lowers the overcrowding that happens in jails, along with lowers the amount of tax dollars that we spend on people that are in jail because of smoking/selling/carrying marijuana.

Side affects are no worse than alcohol or cigarettes. If anything, they are less harsh.

People must remember the difference in quantity that is required to reach the buzz. An ounce of tobacco can be found in 35 cigarettes. Many people smoke a pack a day. A pack of cigarettes contains 20. Over a week, that is 140 cigarettes or nearly 4 ounces of tobacco. You stated that you smoke 1 ounce a week.
Do you smoke?Once or twice a year.

Should marijuana be legalized? medical practice only
If so why, if not why not? alot of money is gained from catching drug traffickers plus demand is sky-high.
Do you smoke? nope

How do you figure money is gained? Most deals made are so small, sending them to jail costs more than they might have acquired from the bust. Thats a big might.

Should marijuana be legalized? Yes.
If so why, if not why not? The only reason drugs are illegal is because the government can't tax them. Cigarettes are a drug. Alcohol is a drug. Every over the counter medicine is a drug and they all have different effects. If you understand the risks and can handle the extreme ones, who are you harming besides yourself?
Do you smoke? Yes. Cigarettes, cigars, I've done weed, done coke, been baked several times. Legal or not, it's my life. I answer to my own set of angels.

That because your tolerance is really low.
But even if you do get extremely high, your still in the right mind to know you can't drive.
Thanks for the post.

I mean yeah, totally true. But not everyone would. Look at people who drink too much and drive. I know when I've drank too much (not necessarily for driving but for anything, like walking people home) but not everyone does, they think they're fine then try to do stuff like drive.

Should marijuana be legalized? May as well.
If so why, if not why not? Everyone who wants to smoke weed already does, it's just illegal. May as well make it legal and tax it.
Do you smoke? Never have, never will.

Should marijuana be legalized? Yeah
If so why, if not why not? First of all prohibition is against the highest laws of the U.S., the Constitution. The government should not prevent us from ingesting a substance in to our body at will, whether weed is in fact bad for us or not. For many people the positive effects outweigh the negative.

Millions of people blaze every day and that isn't going to change, never has never will. The drug war is something like 2-5% successful, it is futile to try and regulate marijuana.

If it is legalized, and if they unfortunately tax it, nobody will really care, people will still deal under the table probably even more so since it won't be such a high offense, just improper business and tax evasion or w/e.

I find the governments inconsistency ridiculous, we put people in jail for supplying people with good budd for longer than we put in robbery convicts.

Where is the real freedom that the U.S. is supposed to offer?? We need true free trade. The system needs major reform on many levels.

It's only a matter of time before its rescheduled on a federal level, and a few years down the road probably fully legalized.

Do you smoke? I try to wake up and rip some chronic from my water bong every day.

@Ganja Sabre

You speak the truth.
I try to wake up every morning and smoke a couple bowls before I start my day. I can concentrate a lot more on something I need to be focusing on, and be just generally more social with the world period.

Infact I just smoked a bowl before I started reading this thread rofl.

I'm an adult.

I voted Yes

I have never even tried it.

I am one of those people that think there can be good in almost anything if it is used wisely. This may sound dumb, but I can't believe that God putting weed on Earth was a mistake.

When I was in high school and would get asked to smoke, I'd always be like "No Thanks It's against my religion." They would laugh at me and we would joke about it. Being in Christian school they all knew it wasn't stated that way exactly but more because anything illegal was against what we believed in.

I think if it was legal they would have to come up with lots of new taxes on the sale of it and the growth would probably have to be taxed somehow too. The government would not make it legal unless they thought they could make a ton of money on it like they do tobacco products.

Should marijuana be legalized? Yes. Completely and unrestrictedly(if over 18/21)
If so why, if not why not? Personally, I don't see the problem. I can't see it having any worse effect than Tobacco or Alcohol, or even a number of pain killers.
I also think that if it were legalized, hemp would be much more common, cheap, and would work its way into all sorts of products(paper and clothing for example); this is good as its a much better source material: entirely biodegradable, strong and durable. Its also good for the environment, as it requires little pesticide to grow.
edit:
And, of course, legalizing it would mean a -huge- amount of police time(and money) not spent on preventing its use, one less source of money for gangs etc.

Do you smoke? Don't smoke, drink or take drugs. And hopefully never will.

Should marijuana be legalized? No. Not even for medicinal use.
If so why, if not why not? Society can function perfectly fine without the use of marijuana as we have seen in England. Since humans can exist without it, then why legalise it?
We don't NEED it for medicinal purposes, as we have seen recently, since other drugs have been researched and manufactured that serve exactly the same purpose.

Do you smoke? Definitely not.

you shouldn't be making statements like that without having nay idea about it. Do you actually know anything about opiates in medicine?

It's already Americas #1 crop and it's not even legalized yet lol.
Imagine if they taxed it, it would even pull us out of this deficit.

Humans can live without cars, and there are on average 40,000 deaths from motor accidents annually in the US alone. Last time I checked, cars were legal.

A lot of people don't know anything about Marijuana and see it as this thing, everyone tries to make it out to be without any personal experience.

Which is the entire point of this topic. Open up your eyes, read, learn.

Before the first time I smoked, I was taught all drugs are evil, you'll get addicted, and die shortly afterward. I don't think I ever would've smartened up if I kept listening to what my parents told me, and unfortunately some people still are that way..
