When I say America, I mean the USA and Canada. I went to both.
In Canada I went to Vancouver and Calgary/Banff

You just had to go to the most expensive places in Canada didn't you?

The Ontario government decided to put tax on EVERYTHING. And they have the nerve to come back and say well fuck, it isn't so bad, the tax didn't change the price on 83% of the things out there that you pay for. Well the shit brains didn't take into account that the other 17% of things are either really expensive or necessities like energy (electricity, gas, natural gas....).

Americans complain about the price of gas being around 70 cents/Litre when in Canada right now gas is at a bargain price of 97 cents/Litre.

[/Off topic rant]

On topic of taxes, the ONLY reason drugs are illegal in the UK is cause the government can't tax them.

That is all.

The United States hardly has any sort of meaningful health care system. Even after Obama tried to reform it, he still didn't get very far.

Still, I think the US's top tax bracket is around 30% where as Canada's is I think 45%

Waitresses make way below minimum wage, so it's a total asshole move not to tip them.

and the little wage they get a lot of it is taxes

Never really considered tipping anyone but waitors. And yeahm, sometimes i dont know why we do it. I feel more inclined to give more when they're doing a good job, like fast and friendly service. I often eat out in a group of like 6 or whatever, and we give no where near 10%, just like 2 quid max

In my area the sales tax is like 9% of the purchase so when tipping for things we just double the sales tax and we're good.

No clue what you're talking about, since we don't use liters tongue.gif

The highest tax bracket in the US is also close to 50%, but that's for the really rich (guessing $500,000+). Most upper class people still pay about 30-35%.

I think it's necessary to tip, at least in the US. It makes up a large part of the waiter's/waitress' income. Of course, if he/she doesn't do a good job, there's no need to leave much.

When I go out to eat, I am usually with a bunch of friends. I generally pay for myself, and I always tip. And I'm out to eat pretty often. I give at least 20%, usually 30%. The reason being is because it really isn't much for a meal. Considering the average meal I buy costs around $10, a 30% tip is only a dollar more than a 20% one. I've always had good waitors/waitresses so I always give 30%. I can afford an extra buck or 2.

When I'm eating at a restaurant I typically tip 15%. If the waiter is very good and I am satisfied with the food, timing, & overall service I often find myself tipping 17-20%.

As for pizza delivery boys, they always get around 10-15%.

I was in Miami, Florida last week and the hotel we stayed at was right next to South Beach. Whenever anybody goes onto the beach you have to pay for chairs & an umbrella... And they have people that set the umbrella up for you. Nobody says that you have to tip the guy who sets up the umbrella but I saw tons of people handing them a few singles or a five dollar bill. My mom gave me a 5 and I handed it to our guy, his name was Dmitri and he had a thick russian accent which I thought was badass.

I always give 20% of the total bill to my waiter or waitress. They can only go down to 10% if they are really crappy with me. I figure they are just having a bad day and I may make it better for them. When I order like over $100 at my local pizza shop, I usually give them $5 to $10 cause it is carry out. I find my table always gets good service and quick refills on my coffee. My local restaurant knows what I order for the most part. So it's worth the extra money.

At my local full service gas station I usually just give him an extra $1 or $2. They know my car and check my oil, fluids and clean the windows for me.

My regular car wash, I tip good too. They usually vacum my trunk for free. They always clean my interior windows and put a clean trash bag in for me. lol Besides these guys are really cute too.

Over all, I say you get what you pay for. Tipping is more effective if you always use the same provider on a regular basis.

$2.13? America is fucked.

At restruants where im from (Australia) there is a tip jar that gets divided up at the end of the night and given equally to the waiting staff. The only time I've ever tipped was when I was with my gf and the waitress was acutally really shitty and my gf told me not too (but still did it b/c didn't want to look cheap).

And I've actually tipped a bus driver 20 cents once as a joke, He said"Thanks, I'll feed my family with this". I thought about giving him more lol.
