Indeed an application doesn't reflect what a person's war attitude and capability is like. A test would possibly be a good means of finding this out, however on the other hand, the people who are applying would more than likely have previously exhibited their capabilities at tank practices and actual wars. These applications may be based on attitude when the applicant's performance didnt mean getting a rank or not. That way, it may proove true skill.

Honestly, I feel that this is the one position where it should be talent based. I mean sure, we don't want rude people leading us around, that is what the application is for. However people can embellish things in applications to make them sound nicer, but not actually mean them (not that n of YOU are doing that, it's just a possibility).

I don't think tank practices show whether or not a person can lead. I don't recall every falling in on anyone other than DZ, Abs, Rob, or Glen in any war a any point during the fight.

People might be great tanks, or amazing hybrids, but leading is much different. More than anything, you're concentrating on everyone else, not yourself. The hard part being, you still have to watch over yourself while keeping an eye on everything going on around you.

I think the application should be the final decision as in after the practice with the applicants having lead a fight the capable ones' applications are reviewed, and if people would follow this person he gets the position. Even if the person is good at leading, if the council feels he/she wouldn't be followed by the clan, he shouldn't get the position.

From my experience with running Staff Applications in the past, most of the time the staff have an eye on one or two people they'd be willing to promote, but are unsure as to whether or not the potential staff member would want to accept it, therefore Staff Applications are held in order to guage who is willing to accept the role, as well as gather necessary background information on the potential

It's always worth applying if you believe you have the capabilities, even if it's just a 'Hey, watch me while we war ' to get your warring method noticed and evaluated.
