Though I am delighted to see this change to emeritus it does dissapoint me as well to see once again that you feel it is nessacary to penalise those who are unable to be as active as they previously have been.

This is exactly what I have always interpreted Emeritus to serve, basically as a reward to those who have put the hard yards in to help out WG in the past, but do not have the time to do the same now.

To me, if you can't accept that Emeritus is a rank that is only used by those who still enjoy the company of WG members but cannot commit much time to the game, then the rank itself is entirely pointless. All you will achieve is a gradual push away of those members who often have spent a significant amount of time helping the clan (a recent example being Rai of Light) while really see'ing no significant gain in activity.

I just don't get where the assumption that inactivity is 'optional' comes from, goddam.... if I could spend time on RS I would....

I am going to have to agree with the majority here, and say that Emeritus *should* be able to access #wg. How do you expect Emeritus to come to events, or even keep things active? I know that without the active IRC channel, there wouldn't be much reason to stay around here, aside from perhaps checking the forums one a day or week.

Eugene, I think that this really isn't going to change much, and after a few wars, you are going to find everyone is regular Emeritus, and those members are going to be even *more* inactive.

QUOTE (His Lordship @ December 24, 2008 04:55 am)
We can't continue to reward inactivity.
If you want the privileges of #wg IRC, then you can't keep relying on your past achievements.

You make it sound like everyone wants to be inactive. Surprise, surprise, some people have stuff to do that is more important than playing RS. I am sure many emeritus wish that they had the free time to play RS like they did in their active days. Activity has its own rewards, the concept that you need to punish people for them to stay active or that not punishing them constitutes rewarding activity is ridiculous. Keeping your members active by fear rather than encouragement is no way to run a clan. The worst part is that this does almost nothing for activity problems, emeritus are the least likely to say yes to wars anyways. Concentrating on the active member list would be much more productive.

We are not and have never rewarded inactivity. What we have rewarded through the Emeritus rank is loyalty, dedication, and good work. Regardless, what were are doing now is:
A) Being ungrateful to those who have helped the clan greatly in previous times.
cool.gif Being vindictive in putting punishments that have no purpose.
C) Punishing people for putting RL over RS.
D) Dividing the clan and hurting the community.

You are taking the rank for granted.
Most clans nowadays don't offer a retirement rank for long standing members.
If you finish with RS you are finished with clans.

The emeritus rank is meant to be a half way point between full member and ex-member. Longstanding members of WG, when their lifes got too busy for full commitment, could take on the Emeritus rank to reduce their workload, but it was never designed to relieve them of commitment to WG.

I agree with the majority, though I'm with Karl here :/

If they don't have the time to war do you honestly think they'll have the time to go to normal events? :S

Give them IA and IRC without war/events/adult forums please, people like Mike and Sam are extremely busy IRL, but they still liven up the IRC, no need to take their access away because they have no time to 'Scape l:

Demote me to Emeritus please.

I really don't have the time to play RuneScape, but I still have a spot for WG in my heart and have become attached to this clan. I want to someway stay connected and offer my help if anyone needs it.

I think the honoured emeritus / emeritus is a good idea to solve the problem. Do honoured emeritus have more privelidges than emeritus? It sounds like honoured emertius are probably more active so could do with slightly more privelidges, but still between that and emeritus.

Depending on activity requirements, I will probably ask to be demoted to emeritus after the 10th Jan, because I most likely cannot attend an event until easter, 1/4 of the year. The system we have at the moment seems to work well, even though it is a touch more complex. (But there again, complexity when applied correctly shows a diverse and stable system which has developed through experience).

Great posts by Vald and Karl.

I completely agree. Most emeritus would love to spend some time on RS and with WG, but just can't find the time. I'm just lucky enough that I still have some time to play RS on weekends, but its unfair to those would don't have the same luxury as I do.

Elias, since you're one of the few who know the actual answer, how many of those emerituses actually attended events? Doubt its more than 1 or two, but I may be wrong :$

Why shouldn't Emeritus get access to Important Announcements? Maybe they're not active in Runescape anymore but why do they have to be in the dark when it comes to clan matters?

And why can't they go into the IRC channel? They'd probably rarely come around anyway, but during the few times they would want to, they can't because they aren't active enough for a clan that they were loyal to for many years.

It's not about relying on past achievements, it's about common decency. I'm sure any other Runescape clan would let an old member of theirs into their IRC channel, ESPECIALLY if they've quit and have seldom opportunities to visit.

Eventually everyone in the clan will get too busy for Runescape (unless there's people here who plan to play for the rest of their lives) and then there will be a few people sitting in an empty forum, and an even more empty IRC chatroom. Won't that be nice.

I thought emeritus could use the chatroom, it was just an error which prevented them?

Ah well, IA doesn't even apply rarely to Emeritus unless it's buying a T-shirt or anything, guess I don't need it. But don't expect any activity coming from us when you post something in that forum. Which is basically every topic council+ makes.

Change me to Emeritus please, I can't go to wars when I work every weekend, on top of college.
