This actually surprises me somewhat, i remember Anniversaries being something everyone looked forward to, it wasn't just some weekly event that was up on the notice board.

Um...what?

You're serious about calling some of us not active enough for WG because we don't shape our lives around this game at this time of year? That's pretty pathetic. Sure I know it's a once-in-a-year thing, but still...build my weekend around a game, I don't think so.

My life will ALWAYS come before this game, I'm sorry. If I've been invited to a party, or my friends ask me to go out, I will more than likely go out with them. If I'm not up to it, then by all means I'll give my time to WG.

I can't really understand how you can tell us that it's not alright if we only make events that suit us. If I'm going out, I'm going out. If I'm studying, I'm studying. If I'm sleeping, I'm sleeping. If I'm at home when an event is going on, I'm at the event.

More often than not I stay up as late as I can for events, but when it gets to the point where I have to stay up till 5AM for every "important" event, no. I get little to no sleep as it is. I work until 1-2AM every night, and wake up at 6:30 every morning. Then you want me to stay up, or wake up early so I can play a game, light pixilated fires and plant pixilated flowers? I'm sorry, I'm going to get the sleep I don't get during the week.

Being on the IRC and browsing the forums are nothing like playing RS. You can let the IRC sit, and just have the forums page open while studying. You can glance back and forth between the forums and work. You can't really do that with RS unless you're AFK training. Even then you risk logging out every couple of minutes. RS takes concentration, while looking at a forum doesn't. The names at the bottom say people are there, but it doesn't mean they're doing something. I leave my computer on all night and have the forums open so I can quickly check them in the morning. By your standards, I was insanely active while I was asleep.

Also, what you said to Kiwi was completely irrelevant:

Where is the connection between him not having enough time for WG and his PC's power supply being broken and the lack of RS capability on a PS3?

Yes, he has no time for WG because Sony didn't think of RS when they made their product. He has no time for WG because his power supply died - totally his fault.

I find it insulting that you're kicking people because they won't build their lives for these weekends around this game.

You're very hypocritical:

You want us to build our lives around this game, but attend to them at the same time. In other words, we should serve you.

Would you like me to refill your glass of wine sire?

I respect the fact that you're frustrated, anyone would be, but this is a bit much. Some people just can't get out of things. Practice, meetings, work, school - they all take precedence. If someone is in a bad timezone, they're gone? Is that where the exceptions come in? When you make one, everyone needs one, so where will the line be drawn? If some valuable members just can't make it, are you willing to kick them out?

Cor kicks if u dnt turn up 2 a war u signd up too Cor kicks if u dnt sign up 2 wars Cor kicks if u miss 2 wars in a row... Cor kicks.

QUOTE (Karlfischer @ December 01, 2008 10:44 pm)
Colonel and others who will have trouble making the events, I sympathize with you all, however this is the worst possible time to bring up such a discussion that has the potential to divide the clan.  The Anniversary is a time of unity, when we all come together to show what we can do as a clan, and why we are the best RS clan out there.  It is emblematic of our history, how far we have come, and serves as a base to launch our future recruitment and growth.  It is not a time to tarnish or squander with arguing.

The increasing activity requirements are a long-term problem, while the Anniversary is a short-term event that only happens once a year.  I have always been a staunch defender of putting real life before RS (based on what is right for our community, and not simply when compared to other clans), but for our Anniversary an armistice is in order.

If you make the effort to come to events, or have a good excuse, I do not think Lordy is going to kick you.  If he does kick the wrong people, he will go through hell for it and so will WG, but if that is the path he wants to take than we will burn that bridge when we get there.

For now, we should all be behind Lordy in helping to make the Anniversary a success.  He has spent alot of time organizing this, and the least we can do is try our best to attend the most important events of the year.

I have no trouble making a good number of the events, so it's not even about me I'm talking about.

In any case, I agree that I was wrong to bring this up in such a way at such a time, which is why I'm ending my part of the argument here and now.

I honestly agree with a majority of the things Elias is doing, and how he's gone about doing it. That one line is what set me off. Maybe I was in a bad mood, I don't really know. Something about it just wasn't right in my eyes. Really, other than that everything is fine.

I totally agree about the signups and attendance. We need to be far more strict in both areas. I try to make it to any event I can. I've stayed up late numerous times to do so. This is the only real time I've had a RL event (not school/college related) that was at the same time as a WG event, but this RL event is incredibly important to me, so there's no getting out of it. On another occasion, I probably would. So I'm more than willing to give up my time for the clan.

In any case, I just want to let anyone who reads THIS post know that I am in FULL SUPPORT of what Elias is doing. He puts in more effort than practically the member base of this clan combined (with exception of tertiaries and council) and he gets little more than nothing in return. He just wants some respect and some recognition for his consistent hard work, and for that I personally thank him.

Gothic -

I am not angry about the requirements. I can meet a good number of events even though they're at early/late times for me.

So I'd appreciate it if you didn't make it seem like I wasn't content. I'm quite happy in fact. I'm just stating an opinion, sorry you felt the need to interpret it in another way, but that's fine if you wish to do so.

I'm in support of increasing the requirements and becoming far more strict than we are now just so you know. I've made suggestions in the past to crack down on attendance and signups. I've suggested things to encourage signups, but they went unnoticed basically.

Maybe I'll try again.

Just wanted to clear up the idea that I was unhappy. I'm really not, these requirements aren't all that demanding really. We're being asked to go to FUN events, not serious things like wars. People should be more than willing to go to these because they're all just pure enjoyment.

Okay so guess who can't attend the Anniversary stuff .... Mwa ... I have to go to Tasmania. Trust me, i don't wanna go, i don't like boats, guess who has to go for a boat ride EVERY MORNING to get their breakfast ... Me ... I might be able to make the last few days MAYBE My uncle drowned in Spain last weekend and the Spainish government hasn't handed him over to the British Government, so we have to wait for the Spanish to get off their asses so we can organise the funeral and things, so i might be flying to England after Tassie.

Sorry.

As people have said. It's December. It's a busy time of year. TBH this is the first christmas that i will remember for 4 year, last year i was hospitalised and then 3 years before that have been forgotten because of the brain tumor removal. If i am online, i will defintally be at the events. but if i'm not. Well i'm not i have legit reasons (Tassie and maybe England) And if not well it's a hard time for my BF cause his mum died several year ago from brain cancer on christmas day. So my priorities are to make sure that he is okay. I would seriously like to attend several events but if life gets in the way, it's not my fault, nor the fault of anyone else (eg. Someone having issues with their power supply).

Maybe, if it such a hassle for people to attend the Anniversary at this time of year, put in in mid January when people are either back at school or preping to go back.

Well, I'm certainly not going to put my life on hold because of the anniversary. There are much more important things in life to do this time of year besides spend it in front of a computer. Don't get me wrong, the anniversary is alot of fun and is a big thing for us, however, I'm not going to jeopardize spending time with family and friends because of it. I'll make the events I can, if any, and we'll see what happens. Might I suggest for future years, again, if any, that the anniversary be held at a more opportune time? December is such a rough time for alot of people, mainly the adults/parents of the clan. We have alot to do and not a whole lot of time to do it in.
