I'm taking an Excel class this semester; as a way to practice I'm getting back into making RS spreadsheets to help calculate stuff. If you can think of something that can be done with a spreadsheet related to RS that you'd find useful, just post and I'll see if I can do it.

I'm experimenting with importing market data off the web, but it's still a little kinky (I can work with it but it's not as smooth as I'd like). This will also require that you have Excel 2007 for optimal results. I haven't looked at high scores stuff yet, that's already easy to get elsewhere.

Current Projects:

Summoning Guide:
Will calculate the best cost-effect use of your charms based on your level using the latest GE data. Most of the theory-work is done, but this will probably take me the longest to complete because of all the different things that go into it (secondary ingredients for every pouch ... *twitches*).

Completed Projects:

Barrows Calculator: (link)
Plug in what you got from the chest and this sheet will appraise your earnings.

F2p Combat Gear: (link)
Compare combat items and decide what your best f2p raid/war setup can be.

Herblore Cost Calculator: (link)
Requested by Evil. Calculates average GP per XP loss ratio for five different potions.

Ranarr Farming Index: (link)
Personal project; calculates a couple useful statistics related to ranarr-herb growing.

I'm pretty sure that tells you how to get the highest experience per charm, not on an xp:gp ratio. ph34r.gif I'm a miser with summoning so that's my only interest, lol.

I'll upload the Ranarr Guide after some fine tuning; maybe half an hour.

Ranarr Farming Calculator:

user posted image

How this works is you just plug in how many herbs you got from your ranarr plants and the spreadsheet will automatically calculate your income (based on the market average) based on the following qualifiers:

user posted image

"Weighted" is the average yield per plant including any that died. "Unweighted" ignores dead plants (zeros) and gives you the average yield per plant which survived. "Deaths" calculates the percentage of plants which have died each trip (ignoring Trollheim herbs, since they can't die).

Since this is formatted as a table, to begin a new row simply go to the last cell in the last existing record (this would be in the "Income" column, the cell directly above the double underline) and press the Tab key on your keyboard. This will automatically begin a new record.

All of these calculations have been tweaked to ignore blank cells, so DO NOT enter zeros in cells where you did not plant anything! The spreadsheet will read those zeros as plant deaths, which is bad. The data currently in the spreadsheet is just as an example and should be removed.

IMPORTANT: To update the price data, go to DATA on the office ribbon (Excel 2007) and click "Refresh All" in the Connections group. This will probably delay your computer for a few seconds while the five web queries update.

That is so totally awesome...would actually help me decide whether or not it's a decent source of income for me. Let me know when you've uploaded it.

Here's a suggestion for another spreadsheet, but it might be pretty tasking.

It would tackle the whole deal of how many prayer potions to bring to certain training spots (Chaos Tunnels, Armored Zombies (for lazy people)). You'd have to take into account prayer levels, bonuses from gear (I would just use the most standard setups for the spreadsheet, seeing as there could be limitless combination of setups).

If you wanted to go even further, calculate how many super/pure sets would work with that amount of prayer potions and such.

It would be a lot of work, but I think a lot of people would find that useful.

Barrows Calculator:

user posted image

This is very straight forward. Just put in what you get and you get a dollar amount back. Enter the number of times you looted the chest in the first column and you'll get (1) a total income figure for the whole trip, and (2) average income per chest.

If you don't get anything for one of the items, or don't particularly care about keeping track of the little stuff, just enter zeros. You can select from a drop-down list for both the First Item and Second Item columns, so there's no worries about typos.

This calculator DOES NOT take into account materials (such as food, potions, or runes) used during your barrows run; it just gives you a total based on current market averages. There are two hidden worksheets that you don't have to worry about.

Since this is formatted as a table, to begin a new row simply go to the last cell in the last existing record (this would be in the "Income" column, the cell directly above the double underline) and press the Tab key on your keyboard. This will automatically begin a new record.

IMPORTANT: To update the price data, go to DATA on the office ribbon (Excel 2007) and click "Refresh All" in the Connections group. This will probably delay your computer for a few minutes while the 32 web queries update.

If you enter an item and the calculation is obviously off, it's probably because the price of the item has gone from the millions to the hundred thousands, or vice-versa. To correct this follow these steps:
  1. Unhide the hidden worksheets (image). Select "Prices" and hit OK.
  2. In the Prices worksheet, find the item that needs to be updated and highlight it's price in Column B.
    • If the price has gone from the millions to hundred thousands, replace "m" with "k" and "1000000" with "1000".
    • If the price has gone from the hundred thousands to millions, replace "k" with "m" and "1000" with "1000000".
      CODE
      =SUBSTITUTE('Raw Data'!E54,"m",,1)*1000000
      =SUBSTITUTE('Raw Data'!E54,"k",,1)*1000
  3. Save your changes and rehide the Prices worksheet.
  4. If the price is not the issue, send me a PM and I'll try to figure out the problem ASAP.

F2p Gear Calculator:

user posted image

I've compiled the more common f2p combat gear for all three attack types as well as FoG gear and set them up in a calculator. You can compare up to three items individually, or make up three different full setups and compare their total bonuses. Kind of useful to easily see just how much of a difference some equipment makes.

I've ignored weapons except for: rune scimitar, maple shortbow, and staff of fire. If there's a reason to have other weapons on the list just let me know and I'll add them in. There are two hidden spreadsheets just with data you can ignore, and there's nothing you have to keep updated like with the barrows spreadsheet.

Cheers!

Working on updating the Barrows Calculator after using it a bit myself.

// edit //

Updated. Now you just enter the data when you leave instead of doing each run individually.

Herblore Costs Calculator:

user posted image

Evil asked for this one, so it's tailored for him specifically. The spreadsheets use web queries to use the latest market data from RuneHQ. You can delimit what resources you buy and at what price (minimum, average, maximum). You can do the same with the finished potions you plan to sell, and the spreadsheet will calculate your average GP loss per XP gained.

The chart is dynamic, so it will change immediately to reflect your selections. The spreadsheet also collects the percentage rise/fall of any of the items involved over the past week and month, to keep you better informed (no point in investing in super defense potions the week I made this spreadsheet, for example).

Overall I'm really pleased with how this one worked out. happy.gif Kudos to Evil for the request.

IMPORTANT: To update the price data, go to DATA on the office ribbon (Excel 2007) and click "Refresh All" in the Connections group. This will probably delay your computer for a minute while the seventeen web queries update.

Keep in mind for herblore, the (3) pots generally don't sell at high. About half the time, the (4) will sell at high, or you may have to put them at medium.

True, but the price per dose is fixed for (1), (2), (3), and (4) doses. The calculations will still be right on even after combining them. smile.gif (3) is just easier to compare instead of converting the prices for the rest of the stuff.

Alright, I've officially launched Operation Summoning Calculator. wub.gif There's several things I want to be able to do with it now though, so it'll take more work than planned. Also, we haven't completely covered macros yet in class, and I have a feeling they'll be very useful for this, so the finished version might not be available for 2-3 weeks after I've finished everything else. But I'm on it! happy.gif
