Hey, if you haven't heard the news yet there was a plane that reported severe thunderstorms to the control center (they were on their way to Paris) and never made it. Today (6/2) they found debris on the coast of Brazil which MAY be the plane's debris but they do not know for sure.

How will they find it? The plane in somewhere deep (geologists say it could be 4,000 meters) in the Atlantic Ocean, and modern airplanes like this aircraft are equipped with things that they call a black box. The news source I read from says it contains voice recordings of what went on in the cockpit and should tell how the plane went down. They said the box should be able to withstand 11,000 feet underwater.

That's all I know for now, post if you know anything about this.

It is sad, but I think it wouldn't be right to remember those who died on this plane (228 people). My guess is that most of them are dead by now. About a month or so ago, 3 football players went out to the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida to go fishing. They went too far off-shore and encountered bad weather and waves and their boat flipped over. It was about 72 hours I think, 1 out of 3 of them survived and only suffered mild hypothermia. I believe there is still some hope, lets all cross our fingers.

How many days old is the news you're reading? tongue.gif

The total death toll (assuming they all died) is 228 (216 passangers and 12 crew) and the area the plane crashed in is anything up to 7,000m Deep.

As for hoping they survived, the debris is spread over an area 5 KILOMETERS wide which means it probably broke up mid air. I'm sure that you *might* be able to survive in the water for 72 hours + I doubt anyone can survive a mid air aircraft breakup AND subsequently 48 hours + in the water.

How will they find it? They'll find it the same way they found Titanic. Ok right basically you have this all wrong. The infamous black box inside the airplane is a small box which contains the data on the airplanes vital systems. It can tell them Exactly what system failed and exactly when. It tells them precisely what happened to the plane it is NOT a voice recording of what is in the cockpit that is a whole load of ballshit. They can find the box because they give off a small homing beacon and they plan to send a small robot down to the seabed to retrieve the box ASAP.

Hate to say it andrew, but you're actually wrong. The 'Black Box' isnt actually one box at all, nor is it black despite their name (lol) since they paint them bright orange to be found easily in a situation like this.

I hate quoting wikipedia but since I cbf looking for a more reliable source:

QUOTE
In aviation, the term "black box" refers to the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder responsible for recording all communications in the cockpit of an aircraft in flight. The phrase has become popularized by modern media while reporting aircraft crashes.

The FDR (Flight data recorer) is what you describe, a box which records inputs and outputs which physically describes what the plane is doing for a period of time before the plane crashed, I forget the exact amount of time it is but it isn't all that long.

The CVR does what Al described and has recordings of what the pilots etc. have been saying in the period of time before the crash, I'm pretty sure I recall reading that they are damaged fairly often in crashes and are frequently totally useless as a result. CVR's also only record something like the last 30 minutes of conversation so its only helpful if the issue suddenly developed ohmy.gif

Thats what a modern 'Black Box' looks like.

Tidal/wind forces could easily have spread the debris over that area in a short amount of time

ok there are some mistakes i was pretty tired while writing it lol so bear with it sorry

oh and for a more reliable source ill quote and link the story

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_france_plane_blackbox

"The box, which is in fact two separate devices containing cockpit voice recordings and instrument data, offers the best chance of finding out why the Airbus jetliner vanished in an Atlantic storm en route to Paris with 228 people on board."

That's cute.

1. I'm American. Not Irish. Moron.
2. I don't idolize Che, he was just cool and I needed a new picture for my avatar.
3. I'm technically not a youth.
4. Don't pretend you know anything about me.
5. The French suck and nobody likes them.
6. You are too stupid to put into words, so don't cross my path again lest I do just that.

So that dismisses the idea that aliens abducted the airplane. What they would want with the french beats the hell out of me though...

Really don't get why people are always ragging on the french...

I was in Paris and they were incredibly nice people. Most of the time people don't treat THEM nice so they return the favor. A lot of the time Americans will go over there and just start talking English to them...you're in their country. Give them the respect of at least trying their language. At a very least say "Je ne parle pas beaucoup de français." I don't speak french. Then they'll understand and speak English to you.

While I was there I overheard a bunch of American tourists talking about how "rude" some salesman was. He didn't tell her that the coffee she wanted was out of stock until she was at the front of the line. And he didn't speak English to her! The nerve!

I'm American too by the way...

How exactly was I flaming? I come along and make a joke and some idiot gets all bent out of shape and starts flaming me....AND I GET A DEMOTION. WG is seriously falling apart with this Naziesque shit.

Thank you for putting the nail in the coffin. I highly doubt I'll ever be returning to this clan.

Btw, to Colonel..I know man. My girlfriend was in France last summer and she didn't really like it, but she admitted that the tourists were much worse than the French themselves. I don't really hate the French. It's just fun to rag on them.

The Colin I know and respect doesn't flame the French without a hint of sarcasm, let alone try to joke on a really serious topic.

^^ +1

You may not technically be a youth, but by making a blanket statement like that about another nationality is a definite sign of immaturity.

I think removing his rank for that is a little excessive
