I've put it down to a combination of hay fever (which I've never had before, but guessed) and flu. About 2 days ago I've started becoming really breathless. Extremely painful coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and tightness in my chest. My mum suffers from Asthma and it's only obvious to assume it's hereditary. I haven't been able to sleep for more than a few hours recently. I wake up short of breath and I'm kinda worried I'll stop breathing in the night or something. I'm going to make an appointment with the doctors today. As I type this I'm gasping for air but breathing in too deeply or out too far causes me to cough painfully and uncontrollably. The reason this completely fucks me over, though, is because if this is asthma then I can kiss my dreams (and last hope of making something of myself) of joining the Navy goodbye. It's quite worrying for me. My life is going nowhere fast and this will just slow me down. Theres no way in hell I'll let myself still be in my current situation by time I'm 21. I'd rather die than spend my life working a boring dead end job day in day out for the rest of my days. -------------------- Over 6 years of history and friendship, deleted over a difference in an opinion. --- Challenge any creationist to a debate. when things go down....the only way to go is up. as for your life being ruined, i believe you're wrong, it has just begun, its the choices that one makes that makes the man and not the principle behind it. thus, raise yourself, survive this challenge. and move onto the next phase just around the bend. -------------------- ![]() Goals 2011 ![]()

Who knows... in a couple months you could be healthy as a horse again. Give it some time for things to bring up again, after all it's only been 2 days so it might not be so life-threatening. There are many other jobs out there besides the Navy that don't require you sitting in an office in a penguin outfit 24/7... just look for something in the general range of what you're interested in and you're bound to come up with something. You're not even 21. Think positively, there's many long years ahead to be enjoyed. -------------------- ![]() ![]()

Yours sounds alot more serious, but wait and see what the doctor says, sometimes just taking daily meds is enough to keep it under control.

I have a minor case of asthma and I run cross country and soccer. I just have to take a breath from an inhaler like 30 minutes before I run. My dad had a worse case and he still surfs and he's ran marathons. There's some purple inhaler thing that basically makes it go away. But as for you, I don't know of those symptoms really mimic asthma. It's possible if your asthma is hereditary and you are experiencing asthma attacks it could be set off from allergic reactions. Make sure you haven't gotten any new pillows/sheets, pets, etc that might cause it. It seems weird that all of a sudden you'd have asthma in such severity. Anyway if it's tl;dr then I'm not doctor but it doesn't necessarily sound like you have a sure case of asthma and if you do it's treatable. Unless there's some rule in the Navy about not having asthma you should do fine there. -------------------- Dragon Claws Drops: 1 2 Dragonic Visage Drops: 1 Ruined Dragon Drops: 1 Abyssal Whip Drops: 1 2

People are born with asthma and don't start getting it when they're 20. You're jumping to conclusions before you even know whether what your worrying about is something to worry about. I know your mom has it. But even if it did transfer over to you it would be impossible to get a random asthma attack like this out of no where without any previous asthma symptoms in your life. Asthma runs in my family. My brother had sever asthma as a child, in fact almost died at birth from it. His asthma inhaler is the pretty much the strongest on the market. It has a steroid in it that increases the strength of your lungs. I know a thing or two about asthma having a brother with severe asthma. I'm positive the doctor will say the same that what you have is not asthma. Probably a flu or hay fever like you said. -------------------- ![]() ![]() Proud WG member since December 2003

Hi Steveypants Make sure you take that bottle with you. I've been toxic poisoned before and it can be really terrible thing. One drop of what other people can eat a teaspoon of can be deadly to some people. You just might be extra sensitive to this stuff. You really are a smart and resourceful person. You survived your childhood in a not perfect world and grew up to be a great person. You are a natural leader and there are many jobs that you could excel at. Your life is in the very beginning stages. Try to keep a clear view on all the great things you are and market yourself in the job market with those. Sometimes taking a job in a company that is huge but not your goal ending job is the way to go. Talk to me on MSN or TS sometime. I always love having you around. I forgot to add that some people have allergy induced asthma. It "could" be that, but again, the chances are extremely low. And even if you do have that, there's no way for the navy/military to ever find out. THIS IS IF YOU HAVE ASTHMA: Get a strong one that is a long term, which works by strengthening the lungs before your asthma could act up. This way you will not show signs of asthma. You can take these inhalers when you wake up in the morning and/or when you go to bed. And you usually never need the inhaler throughout the day unless of course you somehow get an asthma attack. PS the above is your worst case scenario. Stop over reacting. -------------------- ![]() ![]() Proud WG member since December 2003

Wouldn't an NSAID (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) or some steroids be better? Seems alot like the doctor might not know what it is and is throwing antibiotics at it like they do quite often. --------------------
