So here's the story as to why I want to leave. Chances are that I might even get fired, who knows. So here goes. I was at work today, and briefly after I started my shift (I say about 10 minutes) I went to quickly check the new schedule posted in the back room. The schedule is posted right outside of the managers office. After quickly scanning through which days I worked next week I turned around. And the District Manager (the guy who is in charge of all the stores in the city region where I live) was standing there staring at me. And asked me what I was doing. I responded "Oh just quickly checking my schedule for next week" He replied "Oh, ok. What department are you from again?" Reply "Hardgoods" (thats the main sports equipment section) And then I headed on the floor. I was cleaning in the Soccer area when I saw him talking to the General manger (just the head of the store) And he grabbed me and the other guy that was working with me tonight. He was treating us like kids asking "What are you paid to do" I reply "Help customers" He cut me off "-Sell to customers". He then later said that he was checking the cameras tomorrow morning and going over it with my other manager to specifically see what me and the other guy were/did tonight (oh, and he got caught looking at one of the order books). Needless to say, the point I wanted to get to say, which I didn't say and wish I did say, and WILL say if I do get another talk to or get fired is that I'm not even on commission. I make minimum wage. I have no reason to sell. I could go to McDonalds and make the same amount of money flipping burgers. And he gets the nerve to tell me off for checking my schedule and the other worker looking at a bike part catalogue. O did I mention the funniest thing. The store was empty. There was nothing else to do. If anything I should have been givin a high five for being productive by checking my schedule and cleaning the store. Wtf man. I'm thinking of just finding another job and then just quiting out of the blue. I've also been working at this place for 2 years and still make minimum wage. It's insane. Please comment on what you think of this situation. Oh PS, if I dont get fired I do know that I'll be getting a great cut in shifts -------------------- ![]() ![]() Proud WG member since December 2003

Personally, I wouldnt go in there saying "I get paid so little etc. etc." because that isnt going to get you anywhere, other than pissing them off even more (and giving them a legit reson to fire you). Normally (and I would assume this is the case in the US) they can't fire you without giving you at least 1 verbal, and 1 written warning, unless its serious misconduct (which, it clearly isnt). So even if they have a talk to you tommorow I would go in there and tell them the truth, that there was no-one in the store and you used your initiative to find work during a slow time. If they continue to give you isses (and reduce your hours etc.) I would get a legal oppinion on what exactly your rights are (or at least talk to your parents or someone about it). I wouldn't chuck in the job yet. -------------------- ![]() Old awards wat Most Mature & Most Honourable Most Dedicated|IRC Freak|Best Emeritus Placeholder lolz

I say leave. Yeah the economy is tough to find a job but there are always going to be some places still hiring. While it may be minimum wage or close to it, it sounds like there would be a better place to work at then under people like that. I work at Target, see if your local Target has any positions open (if you have one). The company as a whole is actually doing better in this crappy economy, being a discount store. And the managers all treat you well or else THEY will be the ones getting fired. It's a great working atmosphere and I believe you start at $8 and get raises every year. -------------------- ![]() *Proud* Former leader of the Wilderness Guardians ![]() ^Not Reticked's idea, mine tbh (FOR REAL NO JOKE OMG)^

I suggest leave too. Being I know what you look like, if you don't have a current gf then apply at Victoria Secrets to be a stock boy and they would only let you work in the perfume room ever on the floor. They would probably pay well and there would be obvious benefits while searching for a better job. If that suggestion does not appeal to you then consider Dick Sporting Goods and places like that. I would think you would be knowledgeable about stuff like that and have a good chance of promotions. If you have to leave a job under undo stress and mental abuse, they have to pay you unemployment. Having an ass for a boss that is overly mean may qualify. You have no idea how much I'd love to work at Dicks Sporting Goods but I live in Canada and we don't have that store here. The store I work at is the equivalent of Dicks. It's the biggest sports retailer in Canada: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SportChek I just feel that for some one who has been there for 2 years, and is still treated like some one who has been there for a week is horrible. Pay in Canada is $9.50 per/hr which evens out to about $8 per hour. I'm thinking Futureshop or some phone retailer such as Telus, Bell, KooDo etc. I hear they get higher than minimum wage plus they are on commission, I think it's something like $10 plus commission. If it came down to it though I'd go to Bestbuy although the nearest one is about a 35 minute drive away. Although I believe you make $11 per/hr and there's no rush to sell. -------------------- ![]() ![]() Proud WG member since December 2003

That's the easy thing to say over the internet. But most of them care about the drama and the story which they get to read. They don't think about the consequences. I'm going to tell you something as if I knew you in real life. To me, this is not just an interesting story. I have my fair share of quitting jobs. _________________________________________________ Take it to the higher boss. The story you just wrote. Make a record of every thing done against you. The if the distract manager is having a go at you, go to the next ranking up... better yet, go to the head office and speak in person to someone there. If you're going to get fired, sure, beat him to it and quit... with style, but make life hell for him first. Teach him a lesson for shitting on you. Hang onto it for now and stand up for yourself. If that fails, we'll see. It depends on how the General manager behaves. -------------------- ![]()

If you can stick with it and not be entirely miserable, do it. If you honestly can't stand being within a hundred yards of the prick I'd find another job and give two weeks' notice. Honestly, district manages are supposed to be pricks, it's a job requirement. ![]() When I worked at Wendy's the restaurant owner would get pissed about all sorts of random crap ("there's grease!" "Yeah, I'm cleaning the fryers. We had to put the wire baskets someplace, I'll clean it up in a minute." "CLEAN IT UP RIGHT NOW!" ![]()
