Have you barrowed but hate the expenses? Have you always been afraid of the risks?

Well this guide hopefully can help you learn a new way to barrow affordably.

First off, I'm not explaining what is barrowing, and I'm not going into detail with what it is, and what the drops are, etc etc. I suggest if you've never barrowed before, go onto runehq or another site and read up first. This guide is more of a strategy then a wiki-page.

Step 1: Prep

What kind of stats should you have?

Minimums

- 90 Combat
- 80 Magic (A must.)
- 80 Range (For Ahrim.)
- 55 Prayer (Enough to last two bosses. I usually have about 5-10 left over after two bosses with 57 prayer.)
- 50 Agility (your going to be doing lots of running)

Here's my stats if your wondering.

What kind of gear should you have?

I'm cheap, so here's my gear. Obviously, if you got better gear and your willing to risk using it, feel free to use it. Ie. Instead of rune plate, barrows gear, dragon, etc etc. Try to balance out your gear so your magic attack is as much as possible.

What's in your inventory?

This is my basic set up.

user posted image

- Shovel (required for entering the mounds.)
- Black Dragonhide armour for mage defense during Ahrim. (Better gear is always good)
- Dragon Dagger for a faster Karil fight. (Optional)
- Magic Short. (Can be switched out for Xbow and other better options.)
- 1-2 Prayer Pots (More or less depending on your confidence, I never use them unless I get Karil for my Chest boss)
- 1 Super Defense (Optional, can be used instead of prayer pots for Karil fight underground)
- Monkfish (My food of choice, cheap like lobsters, but powerful like Sharks.)
- Ectophial (Optional in the sense that if your going with my plan completely, you don't need it till you get to the Arena.)
- Ring of Dueling (Your teleport out.)
- Death/Mind Runes (Used for Slayer Dart)

Here's the inventory without the optionals.

Additional Note: After you've done a few barrow runs, you have the option of leaving 2-3 spaces open in your inventory instead of monkfish, and removing your 2-3 rune pieces when your protected by prayer or behind a safe spot to increase your damage output.

Part 2: The Route

Using your Ectophial, teleport to the Port, and run to Canifis.

user posted image

You can stop by the bank if your not bringing the Ectophial to the mound.

user posted image

Run to the basement of the Tavern and use the underground passage to the swamp.

user posted image

Use the back boat to get to Mort'ton.

user posted image

Once there, go to the mounds.

Part 3: Mound Barrows

Kill Order

1st: Dharok
2nd: Karil
3rd-5th: Guthan, Varac, Torag in any order, I'll explain why in a bit.
6th: Ahrim

Dharok

Use prayer. Run out the second he dies to try and avoid an unwanted prayer reduction. I'm sure there's a place to do my trick that will be explained later, but once your good at this strategy, you will actually be looking for places to waste prayer because it's going to be removed anyways.

user posted image

Karil

Use prayer here as well. I like to start off with dagger specs, then switching back to Dart, but that's optional.

user posted image

user posted image

Torag

I chose him next because he's a good one to train on using my strategy, because he really doesn't hit at all. So, to begin, stand in the square that my image shows me standing.

user posted image

After you activate Torag, run to the place pointed out on the arrow. I've mapped out a route to head, and this is specific, because any other direction messes up where Torag ends up. If you do it correctly, it will look like this.

user posted image

Pretty simple drag technique.

Now, this is where my tactic is the makes this so easy and cheap comes in.

Left or Right click Torag to attack him, and your character will go to the position highlighted below.

user posted image

Your magic dart will go off, but you should quickly click for your character to return to the safe spot as shown in the image. Now repeat until Torag is dead. You've just successfully killed Torag without getting hit once.

Verac

The same goes for Verac.

user posted image

Note the specific rocks to hide behind. Some rocks don't work, so use the ones given.

user posted image

I got Verac as my underground this time, but this is where I would've attacked him from.

Guthan

Same exact thing, just a new specific spawn point and rock to hide behind.

user posted image

user posted image

Ahrim

Sadly, because Ahrim and Karil range, you've got to use the standard strategy. If you have a high enough defense, and have good magic defense armour such as black dragon hide, Ahrim is a wimp. He'll occasionally hit a 20, but generally you can shoot him down pretty quickly.

user posted image

As you can see after all the brothers the only thing I've used is one monkfish. (I lost one running through the swamp).

user posted image

Part 4: Underground Chest

So you have one last brother left to kill. Use other guides to figure out what the underground is about, the only thing I suggest is COMPLETELY IGNORE any brother who spawns during your run to the center.

Why? Because unless you got Ahrim or Karil, there's a rock spot in the middle room too.

You've made it to the center, so stand on the red dot I've made on this image. Just like before, I've highlight a specific path to move to get you and your brother in place.

What if you get Dharok as your chest boss? Well, Dharok also can be beaten this way, but if your not comfortable with him, then you are free to use a prayer pot, since we've saved so much money already to make up for it.

So just like before, attack the boss from your safe spot, your character will move itself in position, and you just need to click him back to the safe spot. Practice your timing on easier bosses like Torag before you attempt harder ones like Verac and Dharok in the underground.

user posted image

After you are done with the final boss, you can kill a few of the other monsters in the area if you feel that will increase your rune count. I tend to kill 3 or 4, preferably skeletons, because I feel they give death runes, but I can't confirm that.

user posted image

Meh, no pieces but I replenished my mind runes and got some other small profits. You'll see that I lost a few more monkfish, and that's because I messed up pulling Verac down the path, and I got hit once for a 25.

Once you've got your loot, teleport out using the Ring of Dueling to the Arena

Talk to a healer NPC for health regen.

Get your prayer back.

Take out your ectophial, and repeat. smile.gif

FAQ

1. Can I do this strategy at lower levels?

Yes, this is one of the few strategy that lower levels can actually do affordably. There's a few skills that aren't optional, like magic and prayer, but the nice thing is that many of the other requirements are less needed then other strategies, since 3/6 of the bosses your aren't getting hit and 2 of the other ones are covered by prayer. Ahrim can bee prayed also if you don't have the required range for protection.

2. Why is this better then others?

Well, there are many effective ways of barrowing, some not even requiring banking, but I find this way the biggest bang for a buck. Buy 300 death runes and 1200 minds, 200 arrows and a handful of monkfish, and your ready to go. You only use about 3 monkfish on average a trip, and your runes are generally replaced because slayer dart uses runes given out in the chest. All your blood, chaos, bolt racks and barrow pieces are pure profit.

3. What if I get Karil or Dharok as my underground boss?

If your unlucky enough to get either Dharok or Karil as your random boss, you need to change up your kill order a bit. Do the either Karil or Dharok, which ever one is up, then use your remaining prayer on Ahrim. This is because if one of those two are your underground, then there's only 2 bosses, Karil/Dharok and Ahrim who actually can hit you.

If you wanted to do another run, you could take more prayer pots/super restores and go back to dharok and repeat, that's what I do.

I'm not 100%, there still are many things I haven't attempted, but from the experiences I've had barrowing today, Jagex has nerfed the technique I described in this guide so that the brother follows you over the edge of the rock when you attack him. Ugh...

Another new thing I noticed is that it is now possible to get your dungeon to spawn your center-door to be the next room after you enter the dungeon, where it could never be the first door.
