Continuing my argument from http://www.wildernessguardians.com/forum/i...showtopic=11563

10 / (-1) = -10
Yes?

and 10 / 1 = 10

So put everything halfway there...

10 / (halfway between 1 and -1) = (halfway between 10 and -10)

10 / 0 = 0

Discuss.

Zero isn't a number, it's a concept. You can't divide by it either way.

Then you obviously live in a closed enviornment, can make portals with a gun, and have a computer trying to kill you. I don't think you'd care much about dividing by zero, unless you want to overload the computer with errors.

Try substituting a number incredibly close to zero (ex: 1/inf.)

1/(1/inf.)
the rule for dividing fractions is to flip it then multiply, so you get 1*inf. Since infinity doesn't exist, neither does 1 divided by zero.

Ah, so how do you work with a concept? You add in another concept biggrin.gif At least someone agrees.

@ Ludo

Divide a cake by 0 pieces? Eat the cake lol

cake = x

if x / 0 = 0

Then to divide a cake into 0 pieces the cake itself must not exist, hence the answer is 0.

Just admit I'm right.

this leads to the thought process of Are negative numbers real, since you can't have a negative anything irl.

A mathematical genius such as Keanu should be able to answer this. Without using irrational numbers, of course.

QUOTE (Lefty2802 @ September 23, 2009 10:05 pm)

So what is the (√-3)?

√x = y when yy = x

√(-3) = y when yy = (-3)

to begin, (-3) = yy

[DIVIDE BY Y] and (-3)/y = y

[DIVIDE BY Y] then ((-3)/y)/y = 0

hence 0*y = (-3)/y

and 0*a = 0, with a being any value

so if (-3)/y = 0

[DIVIDE BY Y] then (-3) = 0*y

and if 0*y = 0

Then (-3) = 0

To answer your question Lefty, if (-3) = 0, then √0 = 0.

I eat your paradoxes for breakfast.

On the second line that I quoted, you divide both sides by Y a second time. So the left is fine, but on the right side of the equation, Y/Y = 1, not 0 tface.gif

P.S. Have you heard of "eye"?

I eat your paradoxes for breakfast.

Actually in your 6th line, you are just making shit up.

If you multiply each side by y, then you would end back up with y=(-3)/y. Same thing happens in line 9.

EDIT: Also, (-3) is not equal to 0 thus making your whole reasoning obsolete.

This, thus making it:

(-3)/(y^2)=1

Meaning your equation is wrong, meaning that your credibility is shot. Also, Lefty hit the end of the problem dead on. -3 doesn't = 0, but you were also wrong from line 5, so your answer was going to be wrong.

i think these guys covered it well. btw, 0 dosen't exist.

one drill my teacher used to do is ask us which number real numbers started. everyone would say 0. that's how i learned imaginary numbers. 0 is the start of the pack.
