It's really hard to pick. They've all had their ups and downs. I would probably put American Dad at the bottom though.

Classic Simpsons is hard to beat, but South Park is always funny and relevant.

Family Guy is funny sometimes, but there are WAY too many 12-year-old morons that are like "OMG LYK FAMULEE GUY IS TEH GREATEST SHOW EVARRR"

And Futurama always makes me feel better after watching it. Like, I'll be bored and flick it on and it's just really good. It can be really ridiculous sometimes and really meaningful other times.

lol I don't watch TV but I have seen a few Simpson's shows. I know who South Park are but I don't think I have watched it. I have a TV in my bedroom, but I haven't probably turned it on in about 2.5 to 3 years.

Family Guy - Never fails to get me.
Simpsons - Classic. I've probably seen every episode over three times while growing up; good memories.
Futurama - Refreshing. I like the "mature" characters also.
American Dad - I've only seen (fragments of) a couple of episodes of it.
South Park - A little too sick for me sometimes.

1. Simpsons - You cannot deny the Simpsons founded the genre and defined the rules. Matt Groening writes Futurama, and the "middle class American suburban family comedy" type has undeniably inspired Family Guy and American Dad. I really hate how they insist on having a moral ending everytime, but hey, the Simpsons are an institution. They've also learnt from Family Guy (For example the mental images are much more frequent in the later seasons, that came out after Family Guy, of which the speciality is absurd comparisons which bring in a totally irrealistic situation within the cartoon, without it bothering the storyline...).

2. South Park - Is exempt from much of the "Simpsonite" syndrome which hit cartoons. Brought in the provocative humor which inspired, IMO, Family Guy's crudeness and taste for the absurd. South Park has the talent of often totally misleading the viewer, the storyline being a pretext to prove a point (Oprah deserves to be shot in the muff and ass, while Ben Affleck has parents with true assfaces...). South Park is clever while being vulgar, intelligent while being extraordinarily funny. Love it, specially with hash.png .

3. Family Guy - The best absurd humor ever, but for living in France, I can say it relied heavily on American culture & references (I say that essentially because I don't get them all...), making it less of an international success. Also ripped much from Simpsons. Hugely funny, but deserves a little less credit IMO.

4. Futurama is pleasant, but Fry & Lila are so gay/lesbo. If only Bender was the main character.

5. American Dad - sometimes funny. I hate how the Dad has quagmire's chin.

southpark is just for little kids that get excited by allot of swearing.

The swearwords are part of it, but it has style. Some storylines are quite complex or imaginative.

Simpsons is pretty burnt out now-a-days. Not too funny after the 300th episode. and that episode does exist.
