Ok, my first week of university was a while ago, but I have been incredibly busy/tired, so I haven't had the time or will to post a recap of what happened. First of all, for those of you that don't know, in Canada (and possibly other places), the first week of school is called Frosh week. At Queen's, my university, we take the whole week off and do nothing but a series of activities arranged by our group leaders (called Frecs). There is also a LOT of drinking involved after these events lol.

I am going to university for engineering, and our frosh week is by far the most intense out of the faculties (possibly most intense in Canada!) I knew this would be great, and I have been looking forward to writing about it for a while. Unfortunately I haven't had the time until now.

Wednesday

Well, this was the first day, and the first bit was all registration and junk, the events started at noon. The upper years ambushed us outside the meeting spot with water balloons and water guns while we were entering the building.

Inside, there was a brief meeting about Frosh week rules and activities (Nothing interesting). Then they played a movie that showed the Frecs entering the buildings, wearing black, hooded robes. Then, all of a sudden hundreds more Frecs ran in screaming. They ordered us to jump up and down (or mosh as they called it). This lasted thirty minutes (my calves were about to fall off!).

We then met our Frecs (group leaders, they are painted purple with crazy hair styles like this):

After that we met later in the day for a game. The winner of this game would receive a special badge for our GPAs (golden party armour). When I get the GPA I can talk a little more about this (in about a year -.-).

Anyway, I am proud to say that our team won. The game was that we would be given three newspapers and we would have to trade them for whatever we can get. The winning team is the one with the most valuable (or cool) items. Renting items for the night is allowed. We got 5 cars for the night, temporary ownership of 3 bars, a beer keg (awesome!), and a body bust (funny to present to the judging committee).

Thursday:

Wow, this is going way longer than I expected. Longest post ever by me I think right about now rofl. Anyway, today we spent most of the day playing a game called Thundermugs. We were given a toilet and 5 hours to gather materials and assemble a chariot. We spent the first hour wandering around town gathering junk like a couch, a rug, dinner trays and wood. We built a chariot and several large shield to protect the chariot.

After that we put our chariots and shields to the tests. The first one was the simplest. We just had to drop the chariot, if it didn't break, we passed.

The second one was my least favourite. Our mission was to protect the chariot at all costs. Upper years would be throwing Thundersludge at the chariot. Thundersludge is a yucky mixture of glue, oatmeal and very old cottage cheese. We built very large shields, but didn't have time to make a lot of them.

I was one of the unlucky few without shields, so I was given the task of being bait. I taunted the upper years and made myself into a target to keep them off the chariot. We survived the test barely.

There was another event, but I can see the post is already going way longer than I expected, so I'll skip it.

Saturday:

I skipped Friday, because it would take way too long to explain, and it wasn't as great as this day.

This was the pinnacle of Frosh week: The grease pole climb. It would require over 1000 people and nearly four hours. Picture a pool full of cold and muddy water, with a 30-40 foot pole in the middle, totally covered in industrial strength grease. The upper years also put ice in it the night before to make it a little worse madeoface.gif.

This is a video of the final few minutes. I was on the second floor, but on the other side of the screen -.-

When we got the tam from the top, it was one of the best moments of my entire life, everything stood still for a second, then we all just went totally insane. It's hard to even put the feeling into words.

Well, those were the highlights of my Frosh week. Congratulations if you have read this far, I am sorry I made this post so long.

Thanks for taking the time to read, it has been great to reflect on this by typing it all out. I encourage you to watch the video I posted, its less than two minutes and it's incredible.
