The Hobbit ... will be shot on location in NZ utilizing the expertise of Weta Workshop and Weta Digital. Peter Jackson is the Executive Producer. The Director is Guillermo del Toro. Peter and Guillermo are also writing the screenplay together with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
Approx. two years out; I should finish my chainmail hauberk for the opening night. ohmy.gif

Filming starts in Feb next year /fail.

Casting call started yesterday too neko2.gif

Blame the American studios who can't stop sue'ing each other over who owns the rights to produce it etc etc. (Mainly MGM's fault) along with the Australian actors unions which decided they wanted a cut of the the pie and started trying to take industrial action.

But yeah, isn't cancelled and is currently budgeted to cost over USD 500m, the most expensive film of all time (does it count when its actually going to be two parts?)

Not same director Guillermo del Toro though.

Pretty much pointless.

Peter Jackson made the 3 first movies and they were GOD DAMN EPIC! He's the one to make The Hobbit.

So... like, I don't memorize many directors. Is it expected to suck or what? hashdown.gif.png

If it's going to be anything like the LoTR, it should kick ass.

There's not really anywhere else that can offer the same scenery. The closest I can think of is the Scottish Highlands, but all it does there is piss it down with rain constantly.

The thing is that the Hobbit mainly takes place in Trollshaws (forest),Mirkwood(forest), the Mist Mountains, and Lonely Mountain. And there's a lot of places aside from just NZ that has mountains and forests.
Bottom line is that they have a lot more options for where they may want to film this duology. I personally think that the closest thing for the Lonely mountain would be something like the Matterhorn, unless they plan on making it with CGI.

I'm definitely excited for this movie and in a sense I'm glad that it's split in to two parts because that just means a longer movie overall biggrin.gif and I have no problem with that.
