This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. For 2009 releases it is only equaled by The Dark Knight. It was that good. It had action, drama, fantasy, and sci-fi. It was so great.

If you enjoy going to the movies, you have to go see this.

Has anyone here went to see it yet? If so what did you think?

I saw it and thought it was decent. But that could be a mixture of: 3D, blazed, and I didn't actually watch the whole thing (fell asleep after 1.5-2 hours). But from what I did see/remember, it wasn't exceptional...

I'll try to watch it once more, sober this time.

One of your favorite movies of all time? Seriously?? You must not watch a lot of movies...

This movie was such the typical James Cameron movie with the "one guy going to save the world" plot. I guess if repetition works, keep doing it until you stop getting money for it. The best thing about it was the special effects. The story kept me interested, but it was shallow. The concept of the avatar itself was actually really cool, but it wasn't something super original. Overall, I'd say watch it illegally and don't pay unless you seriously want to see it in Imax or 3D.

lol I do watch alot of movies. I go out about once a week to the theaters to see a movie. I like the super hero hollywood thing. Why would I want to go see a movie that everyone dies and real life sucks 90% of the time...

I thought the aspect of Arha or whatever was semi-deep. It left a lot unexplained.

I really enjoyed it.

Saw it in IMAX and 3D the other day...and I loved it.

The plot wasn't something I've never seen before. One guy initially decides to do something. Gets involved in the situation a little too much, and realizes what he's doing is actually pretty shitty. At the moment he's about to come clean, he's stopped so he has to go behind people's backs to come clean which eventually makes him an outcast. Then he saves the entire universe single handedly. Sums it up basically.

Given that, it wasn't something where I could predict every single scene, I just knew where the final destination was and what the typical pitfalls were in the hero's journey.

What made it great were the little things. The concept of linking with the Ikran or the horse things was really interesting.

I LOVED how they used 3D. It wasn't hokey or anything typical. Not like generic 3D movies where things are shooting out at you and you're ducking and dodging in your seat. The 3D in this film actually brought you closer to the film. It was more intimate.

I will say it was a bit longer than I'm used to, at some 2 hours and 46 minutes. But the first 2 hours and 15 minutes went by pretty damn fast for me...

There was a lot of action. Just enough drama and a shit load of fantasy.

Also, since I saw it with my dad he came to the same conclusion I did; American Indians.

Of course it was horribly cliched and all, but nonetheless it was still BRILLIANT.

At certain points I dropped my jaw so low, the graphics are STUNNING, I loved it in 3D, it was an amazing experience. I loved all the little stuff that the film tended to, it showed it really cared for everything.

I liked that fact that it was a long film, I like sitting in the cinema while the long story is told to me, they did well explaining everything.

Quite good I would say.

It's Pocahontas, but on a different world. Think of the whole plot of Pocahontas, then think of Avatar. Yeah.

Regardless, I'm still excited to go see it..

It was good, not amazing and a bit dragged out, but the special effects and all that is pretty cool. Although the plot is pretty standard, I love the message behind it. You know, the greed of the western world willing to screw over the little guys to get at the resources. It was well worked out.

Pretty damn expensive though, £7.20 with the glasses..

Btw, to all the people that are saying "the movie was okay, but the special effects were awesome!!", just don't. When the "special" effects are used in every scene in the movie, they are not special. They are just effects. And when most action/adventure/sci-fi/just-about-anything movies use "special" effects these days, they are becoming less and less special. Therefore, the plot, script, acting, producing, directing, editing, choreography, cinematography, score, and all that other useless junk actually does count. A little part of me dies when people say that a movie is okay, but the special effects are "totallyawesomeomfgimgoingtocum!!!!!11".

For example: "Yeah, everything about the movie was terrible, but the one actress in it was hot as hell so it made the whole thing okay." I would sound like an idiot. And that's exactly what I think of you people when you talk about "special" effects.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying Avatar is bad. I'm probably going to go see it tomorrow. I am just sick of the way people judge movies.

Yeah, but when the "Visual Effects, 3d Modelling animation and texturing" is at the standard of Avatar, it is something special and you are definately allowed to compliment it on it. Watch Avatar, then go back and watch Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Enjoy.

Not that I've seen Avatar, but if the effects are as good as the trailers show then I can only imagine it.

lol
You cant compare special effects of 8 yers old film with the newst film so easy tongue.gif

Saw it yesterday in 3D ( it was expensive, but nvm, my dad payd it biggrin.gif ). Some scenes were a bit blurred, not sure is my eyes are bad or just the 3D thechnology isnt so sophistocated.
The story wasnt excellent, but i have to say i was excited for every second of the film ( maybe because of the beautiful nature of Pandora ).

Now after watching Avater i can say: HD > 3D

I thought the special effects were goddamn awesome because you didn't even notice them. THAT is the true and only awesome use of special effects.

Okay, I saw Avatar today and it was awesome. Just awesome. Nothing I can say would do it justice. The 3D was a little weird at first, but it adds so much to the movie...

As I predicted, the general plot was nothing new, but it was a great twist on a classic story. And it was just BEAUTIFUL. My god, it was amazing.
