This thread is reserved for movies that don't get the attention they deserve.
Feel free to add your own, I'll start off with a few:

Gabriel (2007)

After death, souls of ambiguous tenure are sent to live a second life in Purgatory. To enforce the balance, seven archangels and seven demons vie for the unclaimed souls. But the shit hit the fan when Sammael defeated Michael and broke the remaining archangels. Gabriel is the last archangel and he's out for blood.

Starring Andy Whitfield and filmed in Australia, Gabriel just goes to show you don't need a huge budget to tell a great story. The narrative especially sets this movie apart.

The Proposition (2005)

Captain Stanley is fresh from England and determined to affix the wilderness of Australia to his ideals. After capturing two members of the Burns Gang, he gives Pearce a choice: go out and kill his older brother (who's an absolute psychopath) in or his little brother will hang for murder. But Stanley's boss isn't impressed.

Another Australian film starring Guy Pearce, Danny Huston, Ray Winston, David Wenham and John Hurt, The Proposition is a great gritty "western" critique of society.

Mean Creek (2004)

Probably a victim of mistaken advertising than anything else, Mean Creek is about a few kids who decide to get even with a bully with very serious consequences. I wouldn't call it a great film, but I'm always curious to see a movie where children are treated like serious characters rather than patronized sidekicks.

user posted image

Stars Rory Culkin, and a few other recognizable child actors. It's an interesting scenario for a film, although I think the ending was rather awful.

Brick (2005)

Brendan has minded his own business for years, aiming just to be left alone until he graduates high school. But when he receives a cryptic phone call from an ex-girlfriend who later turns up dead he's thrown quite violently into a rampant student underworld. Another film where there's more to kids than meets the eye.

user posted image

Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (the white kid from Angels in the Outfield). The high school setting is representative rather than literal; great crime drama/thriller.

Revolver (2005)

As a newly released ex-con, Statham sets out to do what all ex-cons do: get even with the guy who set him up. But he's not interested in putting a gun to the guy's head more than breaking him and his questionable business activities irrevocably. Great plot twists, but perhaps not for the weak of IQ. Not an average action movie.

Starring Jason Statham, the strong storyline and eccentric camera work sets Revolver apart. Also, Statham actually acts instead of just playing demolition derby.

Twilight. A must-watch for all homosexuals. hash.png

The Proposition I've heard of and not seen, really want to watch it. I also want to watch Chain Reaction (Keanu Reeves/Morgan Freeman). It got like a 7% rating and epic fail reviews because apparently the plot was too confusing. But heck, I wanna see it anyway.

Bangkok Dangerous (Nicholas Cage) was also a pretty good film. It's a remake, and it's based around Nicholas being a hired hitman in Bangkok. Unlike other movies with the same theme (Pro assasin guy does his job, meets girl, fucks something up, etc) it actually has a few great action scenes and a really weird twist at the end. A great 1hr40 film to come out of America.

I am a huge fan of Nicholas Cage, Keanu Reeves and Jim Carey. Pretty much anything by them is gonna be good.

It got props from me for just being different, especially the
mugging scene
. The end was a little too predictable, but worlds better than Lord of War. And Keanu Reeves depends drastically on whether or not the role requires facial expressions. tongue.gif

Cage and Reeves both seem to be miscast far to often to be helpful to their careers.

Here's another; Eastern Promises, with Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts. It's about the Russian Mafia in London. DON'T watch the trailer, 1) it's not that great, and 2) it gives too much away. Same director as A History of Violence which I thought sucked but Eastern Promises was a very well-developed story.

If you what a film with kids in a serious role then watch Eden Lake. That isnt a big budget film. But we thought it was a good watch. And with a good twist in the end

Bankok Dangerous was a terrible movie.

So were the Star Wars movies.

Only the new ones. Those ones sucked balls.

Episodes 4 and 5 were awesome. 6 had the potential to be awesome, but the Ewoks fucking ruined it. I mean, seriously...EWOKS?!?!?
