Before you start saying "OMGF another Mumble guide!", this is the -official- one, requested by Robbiethe2nd. Talk to him. hash.png

Installation:
Go to http://mumble.sourceforge.net/, look under "Get Mumble" and click on 1.2.0 (Stable).
or If using Windows click here.

Let the file download, and then install the file. Make sure that you install the client, as in the following picture.

Configuring the Sound Card:
¤Start Mumble. Make sure you are not using the one that has (Backwards Compatibility)

When you first start Mumble, it will ask you to configure your soundcard. If you decide to do this, which I advise you to do, then read this section. If not, skip.

¤If you do not know much about your computer, just hit next at this menu. This screen basically tells you to set which device is your input and which one is your output. You can test to make sure that you have the correct input by speaking into your microphone. If you hear your voice, you have the correct input selected.

¤The next menu sets the output delays. Set it to the lowest value where it sounds fine to your ears.

¤The next menu sets up the input. If you have a mic, read through the menu and follow what it says. If you do not, just hit next.

¤Finally hit finish. You are done with configuring the sound card.

Creating a Certificate:
Another thing when you start up Mumble for your first time is that it will requiest for you to create a certificate. While it might not mean much to you, it is a sense of security in some ways. Let's just do it anyways...

¤First off, make sure that "Create a New Certificate" is checked, and then hit next.

¤Insert your name and your e-mail address into the two fields and then hit next.

¤At this screen, you get to decide where to put the certificate. I highly advise for you to just save it in the Mumble installation folder, which should be "C:\Program Files\Mumble". Just name it "certificate", hit save, and then hit commit.

Congratulations! You made it through all of the setting up. Time to change some configs and to join WG's server!

Connecting to our Server:
¤A window will come up with possible servers to join. Look at the bottom of the window and click on "Add New...".

¤Fill the first field with what you want the server to be named (WG or WG's Server or WildGuard). This can be anything for you to recognize it as WG's server.

¤Fill the second field with "92.48.69.8". This is our server location. If this does not work for you, try "wildernessguardians.com" in this place.

¤The third field should already be filled in for you, but if it isn't then make sure it is "64738".

¤The last field should be your forum username. If on the forums your name is His Lordship, then make sure it says His Lordship.

If your name on the forums is Kyle_Is|Gay, then make sure it says Kyle_Is|Gay|. You have to have a "|" after your forum name if there is a "|" in your forum name.

You can add anything you want to your name by adding a "|" to the end of your name, and then typing what else you want. For example on mine, my forum name is "Nick", however I want people that know me as "Lefty" to see that I go by both names, so I type in "Nick|Lefty".

¤Hit OK and then hit connect.

¤It is going to ask if you accept the certificate. Just hit yes, as we trust our server.

¤The program will say that you have the wrong password. At this time, you insert your forum password into the field. Remember, you are using your forum account to authenticate you, so you will use your forum password. Welcome to WG's Mumble server!

Configuring Mumble:
Here are a few things that I would definitely advise you to do to clean up Mumble.

-Removing the Annoying Voice: Go to the Audio drop down menu, and click on Text-to-Speech. This should make this option unticked.

-Removing the Overlay: To remove the funky thing that gets on the RuneScape screen while playing with Mumble up, go to the Configure drop down menu and click on Settings. Go to the Overlay menu, and uncheck the option that says "Enable Overlay".

-Enabling Push-to-Talk: Go to Settings in the Configure menu, then look at Audio Input. Change your Transmission to "Push to Talk". Then go to Shortcuts and look at the bottom of the screen where it says "Add". Double click where it says "Unassigned" and change it to "Push to Talk". Under where it says "Shortcut" click in that space, and then press the keyboard button that you want to enable Push to Talk. Hit Apply in the bottom right corner and you are done!

-Users Before Sub-Channels: While you might not know what this is, I recommend it. It puts users before the sub-channels in the root channel, making it easier for you to tell who is in what channel. Go to Configure, then Settings. Click the Advanced box at the bottom-left of the screen. Now, go to the User Interface tab on the left side, and check the "Users above Channels" box. Click Apply and Ok. Exit Mumble and re-open it again.

-If Hearing Weird Sounds: While listening to other members speak, and you start hearing weird sounds in the middle of their speech, go to Configure, Settings, and click on Advanced. Then click on the Network tab and check Force TCP Mode. Hit Apply and Restart Mumble.

There are still a few things that can be added, such as the skinning part. If you notice anything wrong that I need to fix, just PM me in IRC or on forums and I will fix.

TBH, I asked Nick to make a guide before I saw yours, George. It was only *after* Nick had made his guide that I saw yours.

After looking at yours though George... You have the more complete one, but Nicks appears more "user-friendly", and has pics from the latest version. Also, no offense, but its probably best to have a non-skinned version for the installation.
However, there are a few good points in yours George - especially having red-paint-rectangles around buttons to be pushed.

What I would love is to have all this stuff combined - Keep Nicks guide for the installation/setup, and either modify Nicks pictures with rectangles-around-buttons, or make new ones of the same thing(disable your skin first please George).

I'm also thinking of breaking out linux/mac installations into their own linked topics. Other than the installation, everything is the same(at least on linux that I know of), so we can just link to a separate topic for "alternate" installation guides.

It might even be a good idea to have three topics: One for basic installation, one for alternate installation, and one for "extra handy tweaks and stuff that isn't absolutely required". That way new guys(with windows) have a really short guide to get through when installing Mumble, but the extra information is there.

Oh, and George, if you read this:
I edited your topic, where you had "Current people in Mumble", and added a little block with the current users-on-Mumble list. So it will actually show who's there.
