last week a couple of co-workers where arguing about how they couldn't keep up with their new years resolutions and what weight loss program is the best. it all came down when i joined the conversation with a double challenge.

Terms:
1. top 5 heaviest workers are allowed to join
2. weight lost programs cannot do the following
-unfair advantage
-use of steroids
-use of drugs
-use of detox
3. a bi-weekly weight in wearing full working gear

The Challenges

*35 pound weight lost challenge*

whoever losses 35 pounds first wins $200 cash

*most weight lost by memorial day*

whoever losses the most weight by memorial day wins

*the incentives*

$50 buy-in up front
$100 drop out penalty
every weight in you must weight less than before or same. if you weight more than your previous weight in then $10 charge per pound accumulated.

the team:

~due to company procedure i cannot use real names. so i'm naming colors instead!

1. Red
weight: 307 pounds
body composition: well-rounded
eating habits: subway everyday!
workout habits: thump downs on remote

2. purple
weight: 299 pounds
body composition: built to suit
eating habits: cook @ home
workout habits: daily workout routine

3. orange
weight: 290 pounds
body composition: calories the game
eating habits: Mc Donalds menu
workout habits: run every morning

4. blue
weight: 284
body composition: shirts too tight
eating habits: chipotle and tacos
workout habits: late-night push-ups

5. yellow
weight: 275
body composition: tough to drop
eating habits: Cup Noodles
Workout habits: n/a

the workout techniques:

1. having a healthy diet.
2. workout daily
3. do weights
4. drink water
5. have fun!

Conclusion:

this is a very fun activity since i'm sure once we're done it will bring more events and bigger cash prices. interestingly enough though, i happened to be one of the 5 that has enough weight to compete. thus i have to go thru and try to lose 35 pounds as fast as i can without killing my body and win the cash prices. i'm putting this up more so that i can commit to working out whenever i'm online playing rs and most likely my routine will emphasize push-ups and pull ups with some variation in between.

in any case, its going to be a fun experience to share.

*edited information*

just did some fun fact browsing for my ideal weight.

according to my doctor: 156-205 pounds is the range for my age group to be at.

the avg weight of my current age group is @ 244 pounds

my current status is way above both of these so i have alot of weight to lose if i want to reach ideal. another fun fact was when i was weighted in. most people thought the scale was broken due to the fact that my appearance does not match one who holds 300 pounds but rather half of said weight.

Depends on the person. I drop and gain weight easily, so 35 lbs can be done within four months.

4 months.

Sort out your diet, run more.

Occasional full body weight workouts (Once maybe twice a week).

Edit: By weight workouts I mean low resistance (low weight) high repetition sets.

So like, 4 sets of 20 reps on whichever exercise at a significantly lower weight than you would usually do.

You can't get built and lose fat at the same time.

my body composition is mainly muscle. your method is precisely on the ballgame.

i'll have to starve myself to death. (1000 calories a day) and work out everyday to burn the muscle to lose "fat".

my biggest worry is that.

1. 35 pounds is an unhealthy weight loss
2. once i lose my muscle, how tough is it to regain
3. once i lose my muscle, will the fat follow suit.

also another thing i found is that i'll have to learn to eat 5-6 meals a day instead of three and divide them into small quantities to have my metabolism running hurdles =D

It's really only healthy to lose about 5 lbs per week.
Also there is a certain range of weight that you'll find becomes harder to lose/gain weight after.
ie. The first 5 lbs might be easy but after that it will be harder.

alright. going to rest now.

the update currently is quite simple, sadly i have bad news. yesterday i worked like crazy and although i had the option of calling out today due to extrenuous back pains i decided to go to work and well...i made profit but my back is in pain. i won't be able to run but i will walk and stretch until my back is stronger. and i'm fasting so i can lose weight faster.

doubt i can last 40 days and 40 nights though =S

Good for you man.
I said 4 months. It's not ideal to be able to lose that much weight under 4 months. Sure it COULD happen but set realistic goals. 4 months is possible though.

Calculate it here:

Your first month it should be where you lose your most because your body will be adjusting to your diet plan. So I'd say you can break 10-15 if you really go at it. This means ZERO cheating.

Your second month will be like the first and again you probably want to lose a good 10 pounds. Just keep up what you were doing the first month.

Third month is where you should plateau and its the ideal time to push up your workout intensity. Stay with the same eating plan but just make your workouts more intense. So lets say you go for a 10-15 minute jog on a treadmill. Push it up to 25-30 minutes. Or instead, do 5 workouts per week instead of 3. Just an example. If you do that you can probably lose 10 pounds again.

And then the fourth month, just do what you've been doing the whole time and you'll definitely shave off 5 pounds.

Just a tip though. I would not stick with just push ups. It's not gonna cut it. You'll get a bit of a workout but like I said above: you body plateaus. This means that your body catches up with your workouts. And however hard push-ups may be right now. They're also one of the easiest workouts for your body to plateau with.

Bottom line:
Stay on track with some realistic goals and I'm sure you can beat these guys.

Sorry to double post. Don't fast. It's the worst thing to do when you're losing weight. It's a great way to clean out your body. But the minute you eat again, not only are you more likely to eat more just out of instinct, but your body will store the carbs in to fat. Meaning you'll gain weight instead.

If you lived near me you could probably easily shed the pounds in 2-3 months w/o fasting and heavy lifting. We have a program that meets at my church which teaches easy fun exercise and simple ways to eat that really help. (the six meals a day thing you mentioned earlier is taught. something about if you eat when your not hungry you wont eat as much, meaning you wont over eat) The founder of the program actually started at 340 lbs and now weighs around 185. I can get you a link to the website if you want to email the guy for pointers...

herbal supplements, vitamins, high protein with low carbs, exercise, complete dedication and they can lose it in 6 weeks. Men lose weight faster than women typically because of hormones. Looking at the weights of people too. It is possible to lose 10 percent of your weight pretty fast.

Cabbage Soup diet is a natural cleanser too. This makes you lose around 10 lbs in a week. You can eat endless amount of soup and drink endless amounts of water. Some extra food is added in on some days. This is used for surgery patients that are to fat to operate on and need to take it off fast and somewhat healthy.

http://www.aboutcabbagesoupdiet.com/

There is this tool that can be placed inside of your stomach from your throat too. It used to be higher risk but they have improved it now. This is a six month thing to get people to lose as much as they can to help them start new lifestyle eating.

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=1474433

My own choose of diet would be a protein (50 grams for females and 60 for males) along with this eating 35 grams of fiber a day with plenty of water and a multi vitamin. With at least an hour of exercise a day. Keep a log of everything that you eat and drink, with the basic amount of calories, fiber and protein. Being aware of what your doing to your body is the first step to a new life.

These people should not try running at those weights without a stress test. No matter what the ages tbh.

just woke up this morning. thanks for the support and thanks for stating fasting to be a bad idea. i can feel its a bad idea already *tummy senses tingling*

i would be happy to find out more about your church program hamfield as it will help me win $200 extra. =D

@rachellove

thank you for the advice as i'll definitely add it to my plan and will cook the cabbage soup. i sadly won't be able to use the device mentioned due to the rules of the competition in which using man-made objects made to lose weight isn't allowed but i believe i can certainly control my intake if i eat fruits.

also on a side note i noticed i gained 5 pounds overnight. I Laughed cuz that's amazing.

That could simple be the way your body metabolizes. Most people weigh differently in the morning than they do at night.
I'm not sure if you've been doing it, but try not to eat before going to bed. I believe the rule is not to eat 2 hours before you go to bed.
I see every ones giving their own diets. I got one that's guaranteed to make you lose weight AND turn whatever every muscle you have in to lean mean cut muscle.

So the basic diet plan foods for this are:
Chicken (boiled)
Brocolli
Celery
Carrots

The good thing is you can eat pretty much as many of this as you want (except the chicken, you could potentially but it would upset your stomach). In addition to this I recommend taking vitamin supplements that you take with every meal. You can break this down in to the 6 meal a day plan or the 3 meal a day plan. However you like. In terms of drinking the best thing to stick with is water. If you want to drink anything else I'd say only Skimmed Milk or a Low-Fat Protein Drink/Shake.

Some one mentioned not running on a tread mill. See your physician if you're unsure and if you can go for it because it's an awesome way to reach your goal. If not then I recommend getting a pedometer and clipping it on you. Aim for getting at least 10,000 steps per day. If you don't want to do that, try doing some type of eliptical or bike workout at the gym. And if none of those work for you. You can do a workout in the comfort of your own home: walk up and down the stairs for 10-15 minutes. It's a great workout.

If you want to keep your muscle lean I recommend throwing in some weight routines in there. It's really just a matter of keeping it high repetition work outs. For example doing 30 Bicep curls of 20 pounds (depending how much you can lift).

If you don't like my diet plan then by all means go with some one elses. Although I guarantee you'll get the results you want if you stuck with it.

its been 4 weeks. 20 pounds lost with 25 potential (water-weight is very hard to tell).

i'm currently placing first with 2nd place weighting 11 pounds.

third, 4th and 5th had to pay up front for gaining weight....

how i lost weight:

well, it took basicly alot of mind power the first week. ur body dosen't seem to accept the reality that it must lose weight thus i lose 5 pounds. second-third week i lost 10 pounds and last week another 5. i've noticed that i mostly have water-weight that is hindering me by 5 pounds.

each morning i run 1 1/2 miles. do what i need to do during the day. go to the gym @ 5 and sleep @ 9 pm. wake up early the next day. i pick one day of the week to stay up late in order to play catch up and during the day i make sure to keep my body beat in aerobic range plus carry water with me (no juice or coke).

2nd week i started taking double x supplements which make up for anything i don't get a chance to feed upon my body plus omega 3's to keep me my mind and body synchronized. i purchased a weight loss program for $135 for the whole family as they have all become motivated to pull a stunt like mine.

currently i'm working cardio although i've begun to search more into all body exercises. i've been establishing a weight loss to 200 pounds. started @ 300 pounds. 1/4 of the way there. once @ 200 pounds i'll be capable of choosing wether to increase to 230 or decrease.

overall i feel great. most of my co-workers are worried and others try to cheat by offering me mcdonalds and cake. (i have a weakness for cake). mealbars are a substitute whenever i get a "craving attack" by which i jog off.

the best thing of this weight is the fruit. i love grapes and i feel happy being able to enjoy them with such an anguish for taste. i've also noticed my body is getting fuller faster and my cooking skills have improved due to the fact that my taste buds becoming exceedingly acute.

in my mind i picture myself becoming a personal trainer and help others achievement far better results than i ever could while making a lifestyle change. i've started with my family who are more eager than i am to live a happy and fuller life. i've noticed my little brother has attained the same aggresive instinct. i'm working on helping him subdue it @ an early age rather than control it as his young mind cannot harness its true potency to the maximum. best to train him in a martial arts to master basic discipline and develop competitiveness nature.

i think that's it for the weight loss program. there really isn't much except to stick to the plan. reminds me of fishing really. its a long road so yeah...lol

p.s. wrote this faster than read. =P

I so happy to read your success. Keep going. I'll be posting some tips on here soon.

I pick one item a week as a try to do thing and one no no that I won't do.

Over time it just makes you more aware of what is good for you and what to stay away from. I weigh weekly just to make sure pounds don't creep on too. If I gain more than 3 pounds anytime I weigh in the morning from what I figure is my normal weight I can get a bit freaked out. Then I got straight back into discipline.

The holiday pounds are a huge problem for me. I tend to overeat like over all holidays and can easy gain that 3+ pounds. So I make a note about the holidays and set up rewards for the following week that I will do if I stay same weight or lose. It could be lunch with a friend or new shoes.

Also at least one week a month you need to be writing down everything you eat to help you be aware of what your eating and how much.

Watch out for self sabotage. Don't use food as a reward. Put a big sign on your frig door that says "Nothing Tastes As Good As Thin Feels". Get rid of clothes that don't fit. You're not going to ever want to grow back into them so get rid of them. Your new body deserves some nice fitting clothes and Goodwill sells them. Second hand shops are good for the $$$ while you are still losing and want to look amazing. I've heard there is some store called something like Pluto's Closet in VA.

Good Luck and let us know how it is going for you.
