DISCLAIMER: This is a form of macroing, and you CAN get banned, however, I've used shortkeys for a long time, so have many others. We're still here, meaning the chances of getting banned are slim. It's up to you.

Shortkeys are a really effective way of spamming fancy text with the push of a single button. This is a short guide on how to set them up.

Download

Install

Installing Shortkeys Lite is pretty simple. All you need to do is click "next" and "I Agree", the installer will do the rest for you.

When you open it for the first time you'll be hit with a splash screen asking you to configure the program. The default options are perfect, so you can just click next.

Setting It Up

Once you've installed the program, you're going to need to add some shortkeys to it.

On the main panel, you should see what looks like a blank page with a green plus in the corner, click that to start adding short keys.

user posted image

Another screen will load.

user posted image

The "Original Shortkey" is the key you want to push to automate the text. Replacement text, well, that's the text you want to show up once you push your shortkey.

You can add all the colour codes and fancy text codes before your text in the replacement text field, and it'll appear on your text box and show up as normal.

Pretty simple. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask.

I've been using short keys for a while now.
Just keep them for PvP use and they'll never know as you can't be reported.

Yea I've been using em forever at wars. I've probably been reported countless times, but when you're spamming some place where there's lots of other spam, it's not flooding the chat which means its really no harm.

Jagex still CAN ban you for it if they wanted, but I haven't heard any real stories about people getting banned for macroing from shortkeys...just don't use it at the GE or stuff like that.

I have used them a few times. Nothing on my account yet.

Just don't use it in excess to really spam. If you are stupid about it, you might see offences against your account.

Tbh, I never could understand why Jagex doesn't allow macroing (Though RS players and the rest of the MMO world have two different definitions for macroing, what RS defines as macroing is more commonly referred to as botting or scripting) 99% of the major MMOs on the market allow user macroing with limitations. They're a series of simple commands bound to one button, that can basically be used to trivialize minor tasks or make something more accurate/faster, but cannot actually play the game for you. For instance, a simple macro for RS might be a macro that opens your magic tab, casts a certain teleport spell, then switches back to your inventory screen for example. Makes things simple and saves time, but it isn't actually playing the game for you. Botting or scripting would be using something like an auto-miner which is in conscious control of the game. Macros cannot do anything until they are initiated, and have pre-imposed limits on what can and cannot be done via macro command.

I do wish they would AT LEAST impliment key bindings. Sure, let people click to move, but ffs, let them make hotkeys for stuff.

I find these annoying and pointless.

Its infuriating when you are trying to sell something and some faggot pukes up 20 lines in the time it takes you to type two words.

If you want to let people know where the piles are use quick chat then hit f11, it repeats the last chat.

Thats perfect at wars, so you dont need this shit. If you get it that means you will use it for other things, which is not good. Im on 156 days on this account, i am sure others have many more. Im not willing to risk them for such a trivial thing.

WG used to be about honour, in the real sense not clan world sense.
We dont ban autoers because they are "bad" or immoral, we ban them because thats what Jagex has decided, and we are sensible enough to respect their decision even though its mostly utter crap.

After a couple of days of lurking on mumble its clear many many wg members use propper autoers, and i find it shameful. I waste my life clicking away for the same achivements some people get for loading up an autoer and having a wank.

I don't approve of any type of autoing at all normally, but I think this is an exception. I won't be doing it though.

i didn't know about this lawl. i created a program that lets me input messages and shoots them out (an autotyper). i personally don't use it but it was a great way to learn how to make such programs.

hotkeys on the other hand seem rather easy to do.

The thing that you have to realize is that WG is changing with Runescape. We don't use a lot of honor codes that we used to because the clan world and wilderness alike have changed. Whether we said it in the rules or not, we never banned anyone for saying they botted, thoguh we never condoned it either.

Shortkeys is an applcation that uses something that Jagex would have implemented if their target audience was not as immature as they are and could handle havin something that could easily been abused. Therefore, if you feel you have the maturity to handle a device
for convience instead of griefing, I have a feeling Jagex will tolerate it.

Botting is a whole different issue than Shortkeys and should not be related in your argument. Jagex includes it in the rules under macroing to cover all their bases when banning griefers.

Sorry for any spelling mistakes, sent from my phone.

We DID ban people for botting. And nothing has changed in runescape in this regard. Our honour code has been neglected, nothing has changed.

Perhaps the wilderness is a little different
perhaps they cut down on real world traders

but our honourcode hasn't changed. People have forgotten about it.

lets see, popular vote dictates that this is alright to use.

you have a problem because it violates the honor code.

yet its a proven fact that spam significantly increases chances of defeating our opponent.

i believe it all comes down to a matter of principle. what is more important, maintaining our morality or winning wars.

You're inflating what morality is - there's no moral harm in using a key to type a sentence in the occasional event of a RuneScape war.

There's a very small risk to your account, and perhaps a matter of gaming honor, but it doesn't fundamentally affect anybody in any way. There's no moral substance in the issue. Just opinions.

Your argument is invalid sgt as using f11 on quickchat is exactly the same as pressing a button. So you can both win the war and keep your morality.

Considering the second isn't happening anyway, I vote maintaining morality.
