Change of IRC System

Alright! We wanted to extend the brilliancy of our wonderful VPS Host which we pay a lot for.

So Robbie has set us a Robbiebot which relies on the VPS Host, nothing else, this means 99% of the time it will work

. This also means I save about £20 of power per month, same with Buzz (Although I don't think he'll be turning off his comp during the night anyway >_>)

Anyway...Let me get explaining, You MUST read everything. This is what I want you to do.

1. Check to see if you have a registered IRC Nickname. You've got one? Great! If you don't, Get into IRC, join #IRChelp & ask 'How do I register & identify my nick?' They'll be glad to help.

2. Right now that you've got a registered nick, Click on your name at the top of the forums, for example: 'Abmanju'. Now click on 'Edit My Profile' next to 'Avatar Options'.
In the field "IRC Nickname" You must insert your IRC Registered Nickname. Then click on Amend My Profile.

3. Alrighty now, Connect to the SwiftIRC & join #Wg_Lobby. Now this is important, you must join on the nickname you entered on forums in the field 'IRC Nickname:' If you do not do this, you will not be invited. Join #Wg_Lobby on that nickname, then RobbieBot till invite you, so all you do is /join #Wg

Why have we changed the system?
Well the problem with Buzz's system was that Buzz would sometimes ping out, meaning it wasn't 99%-100% reliable. This relies on our VPS Host.
Another problem was that Buzz had a list, currently, there were 517 Nicknames on that list. So say 150 of them were Wg, 150 were duplicates, 50 are random things, This means 167 are random Ex-Wg. They could join #Wg_Lobby, type !invite & join #Wg to flame etc. during dead period where no Ops are alive.

I'll tell you how this new system works.

1. A Person joins #Wg_Lobby (Any Person, even Guests)
2. That person's IRC nickname is searched on the forums using the Robbiebot.
3a) If that person is Trial Guardian+ & Emeritus...It means they get invited into #Wg
3b) If that person is Clan Friend/Banned/Clan Ally or non-existent on our forums, it means that Robbiebot does nothing. We might add the case that if someone with a rank 'Banned' Joins #Wg_Lobby they'll get kb'd.

So you can see, there is no list involved, it is simply the database on forums.

And that's how you join #Wg_Lobby & #Wg. Remember to do the steps otherwise you won't be able to join #Wg_Lobby.

For Emeritus

You may use this way to join #Wg...However it will be changed because your nicks will get unregistered if you don't identify within a 2 month period, someone can easily take your nickname, register it & Join #Wg.

Robbie is setting up a system so that you will have to pm him your forumpassword to validate. So basically, it would be: /msg Robbiebot <ForumPasswordHere>

This seems to be a good system

Nice. I'm assuming its scripting causes it to check to see if the IRC Nickname is registered before inviting? Not bad

Is there a way to get the Personal Rank type thing back up? Or was it a straight replacement? (By personal rank type thing i mean the place where the IRC Name is now). I miss it already

Btw, No need to go into #IRCHelp and pester the ops to help you register. To register with SwiftIRC:

1.

CODE

/ns register PASSWORD EMAIL

(Replace password and email with your desired password and a VALID email address.)

2. Visit your email, there you should have recieved a message from SwiftIRC to validate your account. (Remember to check your Junk Mail!)

3. Copy and paste the command they give you in the email into your IRC Client.

4. Now that you've registered with the server, you will need to identify. To identify type:

CODE

/ns ID PASSWORD

5. Well, now you've registered and know how to identify. NOTE: You will need to identify EVERY time you connect to IRC. A VERY basic useful script for mIRC Users:

CODE

on *:CONNECT: {
if ($network == SwiftIRC) {
ns id PASSWORD
join #Wg_Lobby
join #WG
}
}

If you use SwiftSwitch, go to file > options > options (i think

) and there you'll be able to insert your password and choose 'auto identify' or something like that (I'm no expert with SwiftSwitch

)

Sorry, I removed it, Abs asked me to turn my script off 30 seconds before I had to leave to go back to school, so it was just a quick fix.

Great work job Robbie + Abs, I knew from the start that there were certain flaws in my system, this removes most if not all of them. Good job

BTW, since I had my system going I've been online for 3708 Hours which amounts to about 154.5 days

I tried playing with scripts to sort out all the inviting and joining stuff, and had about as much success as a african tribe in an ice hockey match
