I'd like everyone to vote on this matter. If YOU were kick-banned by a council from #wg_lobby for absolutely no reason, would you think it's appropriate for a staff member to do so? The duration of the KB could be anything.

Many thanks smile.gif

Depends. If you're joking around and both people can laugh it off, sure. If it's for absolutely no reason to the point where there was not even any communication between the two people, then no.

Also, two topics isn't necessary.

Sorry about that, but a lot of people weren't taking the other topic seriously, so I've decided to make a poll on it and keep it simple.

I think it really depends on the situation.
IMO - Yes, but in moderation. I mean kb'ing someone once just as a joke is unlikely to cause much harm, but if it continues then it will, so once or twice is ok, more than that is not.

Also - it depends on the people involved - some people may not take being kb'ed as well as others. neko2.gif

I agree, once in a while Kicks are fine and it is often a good way for staff to let off a bit of steam in a (relatively) innocent way.

Frankly, I think you need to stop making such a big deal out of one incident of power abuse, I'm sure if you asked nicely, in a serious manner, via PM to any staff they would avoid 'abusing' their power on you. Making multiple topics on forums just makes you look like someone who is going to have a big cry over something minor...

How often does Moose get KB'd lol? when it gets to that point you should start complaining neko2.gif

When have I ever kick banned anyone for a joke?

I shall go on a NH kickban trolling spree right now. It is such a good idea. Only those that posted opposition on this thread will be affected (Cause they are the ones that will be funniest to abuse).

That is all.

Now seriously, why didn't you just pm me about it and I'd look into it. That is really what I'm council for. . . solving disputes, moderation of irc and forums, ect.

council members, raid leaders, event leaders shouldn't have to kick and ban people. or kick for that matter unless it's legit

the purpose of kick option and ban option is a warning and termination system in the IRC. it's not used to harrass people for one's own entertainment.

i personally like the robbiebot impersonation of a ban. that is funny.

an actual kick ban of a person off a channel constantly is a different matter (ex. keanu getting kicked ban not once but twice)

If a staff member has no doubt in his mind that the person they're kicking will take it as a joke, by all means go ahead. In other cases, no.

I voted 'yes' because we are all friends, and it's nice to able to joke around sometimes.

However, honestly, veph, I think you're a cool guy, but I don't agree with the way you're handling this situation. I understand that keanu shouldn't be as offended as he is... but that's beside the point; because he is -- regardless of whether it's justifiable or not. And this is where I feel the joking should stop, including the random, humorous forum posts... especially from a council member. The joke ends when a member is uncomfortable.

I don't know what's happened in the 1 day gap between this thread and my post, but if you allow me to further elaborate...
I've been KB'ed before as a joke. I was able to laugh it off and rejoin a few minutes later... but I could understand if a member would get insulted by it. It is somewhat of a shock, and it can catch you off guard. In the event of someone getting offended, it should be an immediate priority by the person responsible (moreso the council member responsible) to correct the misunderstanding and not let it lurk.

The other members that are joining in on the tease aren't helping, either. I'm not sure this is the right time to be teasing, but maybe that's just me...

Veph didn't mean it, keanu. And I'm sure you know this by now.
He was just being a lovable asshole. We all do it from time-to-time.

As for not allowing KB jokes. I really wouldn't mind either way. Though, I do think it would be somewhat unnecessary.
Call me biased for being an ex-mod.
