So my mom gave me a gift card to Starbucks and I figured I might as well use it this morning as it's a block away from my dorm. I went over and order a medium ("grande") iced something for $3.75. I usually get a large iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts for $2.30. Since it was so expensive and smaller I was expecting the best coffee in the world... It was 50% ice (rip off) and tasted like sugar.

Does anyone actually go to this place or what... such a rip off and the coffee wasn't even good. Not to mention the people in there who think they're awesome for sitting in Starbucks hash.png

Pretty much summed it up...

When I was in New York - I bought a breakfast thing from there. It was average priced.. But just sooo sugary. Not complaining - I love sugar biggrin.gif But a rip.

you pay for the label.

my older brother says it's business isn't the best but it's well known by popular demand.

lucky for me, my older brother also taught me cafeine ruins performance so the only business i'll do with coffee is ownership.

I don't drink caffeine anymore (except the occasional alcohol-energy mix).

Some of my friends drink coffee everyday but I'm happy to save that money.

Plus I'm really sensitive to caffeine now which is kind of awesome.

Never was a fan of Starbucks.

You got an 'iced' something, and are mad that it was 50% ice.

Starbucks doesn't suck because it's mainstream, that's the teenage ideology speaking; Starbucks sucks because, in this case, you chose the wrong drink.
Get a Frappuccino. hash.png

The only reason I go in there is to:

-Sit down with friends (You don't even have to buy anything, just sit down where there are used mugs & shit)
-Buy a Vanilla Frapachino in the summer (Whipped cream on top, nothing else)

Everytime I go to Starbucks there are ALWAYS these women, each of them have like an 8 month old baby or something sitting down, talking, about babies & breastfeeding & stuff, it's so weird, no sign of the fathers either lol.

Although in Costa which I see less frequently >.>, I buy a Victoria Sandwich (Not a sandwich, it's a cake) or Lemon cake, they're delicious neko2.gif

Yeah, I guess that's the way to look at it
I can't imagine someone spending that much on coffee everyday.

I agree that some of their drinks are a complete rip off. It's good if you
re the type of person that goes in everyday just for their normal coffee because it's definitely a par above the rest. Another good thing that they serve is called a Caramel Apple Spice. For iced drinks and food though they're definitely overpriced.

On another note; they pay coffee bean farmers more than other companies do for their coffee beans. Not that it's MUCH more but they at least try to help out.

Starbucks is for people who want to go to a coffee shop but don't really like coffee rolleyes.gif

Its not the price, or any other business related thing that puts me off. Its that every time I got there the coffee I get is what I imagine someone in a lab 'thinks' a good coffee should taste like.

One particular variety of coffee can sell for up to 100+ USD a cup (Kope Luwak), makes Starbucks seem pretty cheap, ironically though if there was a coffee shop in NZ that sold it I would actually try and buy a cup neko2.gif

Actually I've heard of that kind of coffee before. Check it out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak

The reason it's so expensive is both kinda nasty and interesting at the same time lol. The coffee berries (before it's a coffee bean) are eaten by the (Asian) Palm Civet which looks kinda like a Koala mixed with a mouse hehe. Anyways the berry pass through their digestive tract and acts as the most important stage that the bean goes through. They're then dried, roasted etc. They're so expensive because the breaking down of the bean in the Palm Civet somehow removes the bitter taste that often accompanies coffee.

It costs $72 for 100g of Kopi Luwak beans:
http://www.indonesiangrocery.com/shop/index.php

I don't think it's $100 for cup but I've heard that it's close to $50 or so.
