I heard if you're left handed that you block the cellphone signal of it and render it virtually useless. Wanted one, now I'm reconsidering because of the huge obvious flaw.

I'm left handed but I don't hold my 3GS in the way that you block the signal on the iPhone 4 anyway so I'm planning on getting one myself whether or not rogers offers me an upgrade or not

Had an iphone 3gs, would never get another 1 for 2 simple reasons. 1) The battery was a fuckin shocker on all levels, it would be half dead withing 3 hours. And 2) With the job i do, plumbing/pipefitting, the screen gets ruined, the touch screen gets ruined, and eventually i was having all sorts of problems. It just started having strokes from time to time and spacking out lol

Im on the blackberry hype now smile.gif

I dunno, I actually agree with Joe here Buzz.....

You have a 3gs, why do you need a 4g other than because "omgf its a new apple iPhone and I must have it because shit, that's trendy".

Then again I would never buy an iPhone. Why would I want a phone that actually isn't very good at being a phone? they're way too large and they seem to get replaced by a bigger and 'better' one every 12 months anyway.... now they have the added bonus of dropping your calls if "you don't hold them right".

I'll stick to my cheap phone that works as a phone rather than some useless fashion object.

The iphone 4g would be amazing thing to have. I'm considering buying one myself except that the design of the phone suffers from the laws of physics but also Apple being too fuckin cheap to take the proper precautions against antenna failure.

Basically here's what's wrong with the antenna design. You're hand is not a perfect insulator. Meaning it does conduct electricity to a certain degree and when you touch an electrical device, you can change its properties. This is extremely visible in the high frequency range ( over 1 GHz). Since the iPhone operates between the 1.6-2.1 GHz bands, when you touch the metal antenna in a certain way, you are effectively detuning the device. Why? Because you're hand has a slightly capacitive effect and that changes the impedance and whatever filters are used to process the signals going in and out of the antenna.

Apple's solution? Give everyone a rubber case that costs them $5 US.

If you wait until 2011 for a new phone, at the start of the year (January/February) Texas Instruments is releasing their dual-core mobile phone chipset for production which should give better performance and battery life.

They keep delaying the white version of the phone. I wonder if it's from a parts shortage or if they're trying to come up with a quick fix for it.

I just don't see the point.
There's a new phone that makes the previous one outdated every 6 months. There's no good reason to spend all that money on something that will be obsolete by Christmas.

I also lol when I hear about idiots signing a 3 year contract for a free phone.

The iPhone 4 is pretty cool. A couple of my friends have one. With that said, I don't see the use in getting one if you already have a 3GS.

Either way, I suggest to wait for another production line of the iPhone 4 to release so that the initial problems are fixed or look at some of the Android phones coming out. HTC and Motorola are coming out with some pretty damn good phones with the technology boom that is occurring. Currently there is the 1gHz Snapdragon processor, but soon there are going to be betters ones such as the TI one mentioned by Georgio.

Personally, I am sticking to my MyTouch3G (HTC Magic). I have it rooted and have an amazing ROM flashed on it right now. neko2.gif

I would get one, but I've already got the 3GS and it's working fine for me. iPhone 4 is nice and all, but I don't really want to drop another 200-300 USD an another 2-year contract for a phone that albeit is better than my current one, doesn't really change much.

All the fuss about the signal dropping I think is just anti-Apple. Sure, it's a problem, but if it were a design flaw, which everyone who dislikes Apple wants it to be, WAY more people would be having this problem. They released numbers and said that people that called in reporting this problem was .05%, that's HALF of 1%. At the time they'd sold 3 million of the new phones, which equates to roughly 16 thousand handsets, out of 3 million. Seems to me it was just a bad batch of phones, which is still Apple's responsibility undeniably, but it's not a core problem of the phone. Because of all the attention, Apple is being forced to address it.

I could very well be wrong, but knowing Apple, they would never let such a huge flaw make it anywhere past the testing stage. The fact they released it means they knew the design itself was sound.

My uncle has one, and said his works fine. I went to Apple stores and tested each phone, covering the entire side of the phone and had no signal degradation. That doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. What it does mean is that it's not hitting every other phone as all the talk is saying.

With that aside, I personally love my phone. I love the all-in-one functionality. I love being able to call a friend and also check movie times. I like being able to check my mail and my facebook anywhere I am. I absolutely love the touch screen interface. I've played with a lot of other people's touchscreen phones, and with them you actually have to push to get things to register, to the point where it's easier to just use a D-pad if it's provided. With the iPhone it literally is just a tap, if at all.

In terms of functionality, the new iPhone probably won't be any different from the 3GS. So don't count on anything incredibly drastic. The new features (Face Time, new display, new battery) are minimal. I don't really see myself using Face Time at all really, and the other things are just kind of "oh wow" instance once you first get them. They'll make the experience nicer, which is always appreciated but it won't revolutionize the way your phone works for you.

I've got friends that have Blackberry's and Droid phones that hate them and want an iPhone. I know people that have had iPhones and hated them. Ultimately, what it comes down to is how you perceive the phone. All these smartphones are basically the same, they each offer something that makes it seem a little nicer than the others, but ultimately it's an all-in-one device that makes your life a little easier.

I chose the iPhone because I like Apple's products, and know it'll work with my MacBook Pro seamlessly. I won't have to worry about any compatibility errors and if anything does go wrong, I won't have to go very far because we've got an Apple repair location on campus (convenient because if my MBP goes under, it's the same location as well).

My opinion is to really think about it. Is your 3GS really just not working for you anymore? My uncle upgraded because his 3G was just incredibly slow, so he needed something that worked quicker. He passed up the 3GS and just got the iPhone 4. He loves it, but has't said it's revolutionary. The iPhone is the iPhone. If your 3GS is working fine, I say stick with it. The new one won't really offer you anything other than the novelty of Face Time, which unless you've got loads of friends that have the new iPhone you probably won't ever use.
