Alright. For those that know of the IB program and maybe have gone through it, I am writing my ToK prescribed topic paper. For this paper I am given 12 claims, and I have to choose one to write about and discuss. I have a general outline of what I am going to do, but one of the best ways for me to really explore the topic is to discuss it. So.. I am posting it here so that hopefully people can say some things that will get me thinking and to make sure that I have all of the areas covered to support my claim.

The claim I have chosen is:
"There are no absolute distinctions between what is true and what is false." Discuss this claim.

I personally agree with this statement. Truths and falsehoods are relative to each and every individual, and ignoring the paradox created by this statement, there are no absolute truths or absolute falses. Perception and emotion are key characteristics when it comes to an individual's personal definition of whether something is true or false.

Maybe that will get some minds working. If you want to respond to the claim or to my brief response to the claim, please do. I am just trying to get some gears grinding of thought.

Ah my friends hated having to write this paper...something like 4 thousand words right?

In any case, I would say that the statement does hold some credence.

To determine if anything is true or false we must first determine what these things are. In that regard we have to critique our understanding of the world, and who's to say that things are what they are?

I could say that it's true that your signature is blue, but how do I know that blue is blue? Someone told me that blue was blue, but then their understanding becomes questioned.

In this aspect, the discussion of the lack of distinction between truths and falsehoods lies in the validity of what we accept as legitimate understanding of our surroundings.

Not sure if that made sense, but it was thing that came to mind, and I feel like right now you're just searching for some off the wall interpretations. Hope it helps stimulate your thoughts.
