In the third century, Claudius II, a Roman Emperor, outlawed marriage amongst young men because he believed that single men made more able soldiers than those tied down by relationships. A priest named Valentine rebelled against this injustice and continued to perform marriages clandestinely. When this came to Claudius’ attention, he swiftly put the man to death. According to a different tale Valentine sent a note to a young girl he fell in love with while behind bars. He signed it “your Valentine,” leading to the expression as it is used today. Valentine’s Day is a commemoration of his death dating back to approximately 270 A.D., Claudius II's last year as emperor of Rome. I found this at this web page. I just found it interesting that a love holiday originated from trying to keep warring men single. To everyone, I wish you love today and through this year and all the years to come. Happy Valentines Day!!!!! -------------------- ![]() Thank you Garrett and Dallar. “The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.” ~~Colin Powell ~~ ![]() |

Happy Valentine's Day to you also, Rachel. ![]() -------------------- "Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens." - Hendrix Proud Ex-Member of WG |
