This is an editorial I wrote for my school newspaper. I am trying to become the senior columnist for next year, and this is my "audition", so to speak.

Tell me what you think! smile.gif

Here we go again ...

Throughout history, there have been numerous predictions of when the world will end. The Y2K problem and Armageddon Flood are just two examples of “doomsday” predictions that just never were.

Recently, another theory grew in the public's eye. The Rapture, commonly known as the second coming of Christ, was predicted by a man named Harold Camping to occur on May 21, 2011. His prediction also included that a series of natural disasters would occur until the apocalypse would ultimately come on October 21, 2011.

Well done humanity. You have survived through another nutcase's guesswork.

When I first heard of The Rapture, my first thought was, “Oh boy, not another ridiculous theory.” Then, I started to wonder why people such as Camping go through all the trouble of trying to convince people that the world is going to end. Is it because they want fame? Notoriety? Money? Do they just like to mess with people? Maybe all of those are true. Nonetheless, here is what I think:

Perhaps, deep down inside, all of these wackjob theorists have a truly admirable objective, and that is to make people live every day as if it were their last.

Okay, so maybe that cliché is a tad far-fetched. But still, even if that's not what Harold Camping's goal was, that does not mean you cannot make it your goal.

If nothing else, it is food for thought. The next time you hear that the apocalypse is right around the corner, take it with a grain of salt, but at the same time, take it to heart. Think to yourself how you can better live your live, and do it.

Now, I'll see you all on December 13, 2012, after we prove the Mayans wrong, too.

Editorials aren't supposed to be "professional".

They are supposed to have a certain style to them, and don't have to be 100% grammatically correct.

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road

It's a good read, amusing and definitely targeted to a specific audience, which is a good thing.
However, although it reads well overall, in some places I feel the rhythm could do with improving to make sure it flows a little better, not necessarily through changing words, but by changing word order.

Apparently, God is some guy with a calendar and a calculator and he just messes about with them to decide when he should kill 7 billion people hash.png

I can't wait for the day when people who say stuff like this crap get locked up in an asylum for it.

How many people - gullible and uneducated but people nonetheless - who sold their homes and posessions, basically had their lives ruined over this event? Thankfully it didn't happen, but what about the global mass-panic and chaos, complete with casualties and multi-billion dollar damages, which would ensue prior to an apocalyptic event like said?

Oh and not to mention he made himself a laughing stock when it didn't happen.

I personally do try and live my life to the best, but if that's the message these kind of people are trying to portray, they REALLY need to rething their strategies.
