This is a tl;dr. Don't bother.

The title's a bit scary. Even for a WG member like myself, who owns a WG T-shirt and has been to two real life meetings. People say we take the game too seriously. But really, they have no idea. If they could see what some of the other corners of Gilenor get up to, they'd be... well, to put it lightly, quite shocked.

Challenge accepted.

So I banked everything except my Explorer's Ring to take the trip down to Rimmington, and my WG cape to show I'd come from the clan side of things. I set myself up in full detail, and even threw my area sounds and music on for a change. Once fully prepped, I set off down the road to the house portal.

It was crowded, even for the early hours, but then again, world 31 is running all-times. Quite a few were for the prayer training, which I wasn't really interested in, I wanted to see something generic. One ad caught my eye, for "chatting/dating/chilling". The dating I was honestly not too interested in, but I decided to pick out the social element, and joined in.

The house was good. The owner had, I think, a 3x6 or 3x8 layout. Me, having recently taken up construction myself, was fairly impressed - I had taken several attempts to design mine, and his was good enough to rival. Quite a few were training their prayer in the altar and portals to the south, so I headed north into the main building.

The throne room was fairly crowded, and it had its share of those looking to e-date and those simply involved in mild trolling of others - the two people on the throne locked in discussion about some form of disability or other. I simply said "Hi" and took a seat - I felt rather out of place at this point.

After a few minutes, I decided to look up the house owner. He was easy to spot, with his redemption prayer on. I complimented him on his design, but he was fairly busy with the incense burners and the dungeon, so I noted this and departed. He gave a 100k prize in his dungeon, but me, being not geared at all, quickly died to his steel dragon.

Upon my return, dinner of cakes was served. I took my seat, but it appeared no one else joined, so I ate my chocolate cake alone. I headed back to the throne room, where I took up discussion with a few other visitors about males wearing plateskirts rather than platelegs because of the lightness - however, it didn't really achieve much.

I decided to wander around, and headed to the back yard, where I found three other players simply sitting and some doing emotes, and asked if I could join in. One of them was working on a drawing for a YouTube profile picture, another girl showing off her emotes, and a guy clearly trying to hit on her and failing badly. After a few minutes of light chat, we disparsed, and I headed back inside.

I took a seat with some other guys in the parlour, and we simply sat for a bit. A girl came over with a labrador puppy called Izzy (short for Isabelle). I was in the midst of telling her about my own sheepdog Rachel when the house owner logged out, and we were left outside.

After a few seconds, we spotted another house - this time purely for the social element and no skilling. I joined in - not too bad a design, with the garden in the centre and the buildings spread around. I spent a few minutes taking a look around and making some dress changes - a shave and some new boots. After that I headed inside.

The crowd here was much nicer. The owner had served Dragon Bitter - a personal favourite of mine - so I took a seat in the dining room. Another guy sat at the table as well and we talked for a bit - both being fairly shy, as we were both new to the house parties scene. He was only level 43 attack, and he had drank so much that it had reduced his attack level to 1! Over time we pulled the crowd - another guy from the previous house I recognised joined us, a new level 110 in full Dharocks and a lone girl (Judging by her RSN, she was the e-dating type - however, none of us were interested so she kept pretty quiet) and a few others all sat down to drink and chat with us about various things - our stats and so on.

After a while, Dh guy decided to visit the parlour. I noticed he was wearing a clan cloak as well, and was interested in talking to a fellow clanner, so decided to join him. We dispersed, I finished my drink and headed to the parlour, leaving e-date girl at the table by herself.

Dh lit the fire and we talked for a bit - he had been playing since 2006, and was in some RSB clan - the name escapes me. I told him about WG and ARPKing, and was surprised he'd been with the RSB scene for over five years, and was unaware of the RSC clans like DI and RSD. I was just about to go into the "100+ people to wars in deep wild" lecture when another guest asked if he could join us, which led to the three of us somehow reinacting a Family Guy scene.

Now, during the entire time in the dining room, we had a level 60 running through shouting about lesbians upstairs. In lack of anything better to do, we decided to crash it, and about six of us all charged upstairs at the same time. The house owner and her e-date were not happy, and prominantly kicked us out! At this point I decided I'd seen enough, and gladly called it a night.

So... my first experience in the Runescape world outside the clan world... it's hard to describe. I'd say "weirdly interesting". I did meet some cool people and had some nice discussions... it kinda sucks when your computer avatar's drinking a pint of the so-called "Dragon Bitter" when in real life you're stuck with cranberry juice. But overall, it wasn't that bad. Definitely not something I'd want to make a regular thing - I prefer real-life pubs and socialising by far...

But I can't say I didn't enjoy it. I can appreciate a lot of things. In past times I've had a small glimpse of what goes on outside the clan world. Now after all, the clan world is so... straightforward, so organised, sometimes repetitive. It's forum-hosted events, wars, PKs, the same stuff over and over. So, I thought, "what harm could there be in taking a glimpse at the outside world?" And now that I've done that... well I don't regret it, I had fun. A night out in Runescape - been there, done that.

Interesting read, I'd never do that, I would rather socialise with mates, although I'm not one that goes out drinking.

Good read
