It is not an easy lvl to get but today, almost 26 000 players have managed to earn this number. Back in the time I got lvl 85 mining, we were only 2500 players. Why is it a great money making skill? Because each runite is sold easily 12k each. This entire guide is a secret which advanced runite miners have, I believe, always kept for themselves. I decided to explain this formula so that others may use it. This guide is mostly addressed to the runite miners who are unaware of this formula, to those that just graduated from lvl 85 mining (lvl 84? Save it...), or even for those that wish to become rune miners. Nevertheless, the information below remains very interesting for anyone's general knowledge about RuneScape. :!: WARNING :!: This guide is not very easy to understand. The formula itself is not easy to use. Those that understand the meanings of mathematics will have an advantage over others that do not. Yes, this guide is based on mathematics. I am not talking about a basic 2 + 2 or a simple 26 * 57. No I am talking about y = mx + b. Those currently in high school level two (aged 14, 15 years old) might understand this "y = mx + b" formula already. I tried to make this guide as easy as possible for anybody to understand. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 2 ::: TABLE OF CONTENTS Post 1 : News & Introduction Post 2 : Table Of Contents Post 3 : Chapter 1 – INTRODUCTION to the Runite Formula Post 4 : Chapter 2 – Short Summary of ALGEBRA Post 5 : Chapter 3 – HOW TO USE the Runite Formula Post 6 : Chapter 4 – TRAPS of the Runite Formula Post 7 : Chapter 5 – BUGS of the Runite Formula Pt. A linear equation, or first degree equation, is an equation in which each variable are raised to the first power. For example, a¹, b¹, c¹, etc. "Linear" is used because in graphs, it makes straight lines. But we will not involve any graphs in this guide. Remember in the introduction I talked about a certain "y = mx + b" ? Well if you look at the runite formula, here is what we get: y = mx + b m = -150 b = 3800 y = -150x + 3800 I explain in chapter 6 how I managed to find out why m = -150 and why b = 3800. For the time being, believe that this formula is true. All we need to know now is what represents *x and what represents y. x : TIME of respawn per each runite ore y : number of PLAYERS playing RS. Did you know that in the game, the time that things take to respawn is proportional to the number of people playing? In other words, the more people there is on a server, the faster will things regenerate, and in extension, the faster runite ores will come back to life. This is a physical law that Jagex created, and the runite formula is also based not only on algebra, but under this law too. If this law didn't exist, a shorter guide of the runite formula I would of written. Nothing astonishing why algebra is involved! In other words, to save you from telling all the mathematical explanation of how the formula works, let’s just say it in simple English words: Each time 150 players either LOGIN or LOGOUT, 1 minute for the time a runite must take to respawn is also either ADDED or SUBTRACTED. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 4 ::: Chapter 2 – Short Summary of ALGEBRA The runite formula uses algebra. Before giving more information about it, it would be good that you understand certain basics about algebra. If you are reading this, and that you know how to use algebra, you may allow yourself to skip this chapter. Algebra allows the general formulation of arithmetical laws. For example, x + y = y + x. If you replace the letters buy numbers, you could get something like this: *x + y = y + x --> 3 + 16 = 16 + 3 = 19 x and y in the previous example are called variables. This example is also true: cd + ab = ab + cd In algebra, when two variables are sticked together, automatically, it means that they are multiplied. So if we replace... c & d by 3 & 4 AND a & b by -5 & 2 ...we would get this: (3 * 4) + (-5 * 2) = (-5 * 2) + (3 * 4) = -10 + 12 = 2 From here on, it is simple to understand. The difficulty begins when we have to identify a variable. Here is an example in which we must identify the variable y. 3y - 6 = 9 One thing that must be remembered is that whatever we do on one side of an equation, we must do the same on the other side of the equation. The equal sign [=] is the half part of an equation. That is why I say "on both sides" So, in the previous example, the only way to identify y is by isolating it and reducing it. The first thing we can do, is send -6 to the other side. Remember that when I say that whatever you do on one side of an equation, you must do the same on the other, well, if I send -6 to the other side, it will become +6. So... 3y - 6 = 9 3y = 9 + 6 3y = 15 How do we get rid of the 3 beside the y? By dividing it by 3! But DON'T FORGET! What you do one side of your equation, you must do it on the other. 3y / 3 = 15 / 3 At last, y = 5 Finally, 3y - 6 = 9 = (3 * 5) - 6 = 9 This really is a short summary of how to use Algebra. The basics I've showed you will be just good enough to understand the rest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 5 ::: Chapter 3 – HOW TO USE the Runite Formula In the previous post, I presented you the runite formula’s genesis. Let’s see how we must use it now. Since we can always refer to how much people play RS in a certain world in the world selection section page, or via the world switcher (faster refresh), all we really need to do is identify the time an ore takes to respawn. EXAMPLE 1 Let’s say we are playing in a world where 1700 people are playing. Not too few or too much log in or out, which makes it very stable. We must pop up again the runite formula but this time, by replacing y by 1700. If you forgot what x and y mean, refer to the previous chapter. y = -150x + 3800 1700 = -150x + 3800 Remember I said in chapter 1 that the only way to identify the variable x is by isolating it and reducing it? Well, we must do the same here... 1700 = -150x + 3800 -3800 + 1700 = -150x -2100 = -150x Isolating part is done. Now to reduce it... -2100 = -150x -2100 / -150 = -150x / -150 14 = x What does this mean? Simply that when 1700 people are playing, runite will take 14 minutes to revive. To be really sure we understand this, let's make a second example but this one more tricky. EXAMPLE 2 You are playing say in world 115 and there are currently 1176 people playing at the moment. Lets do the math... y = -150x + 3800 1176 = -150x + 3800 -3800 + 1176 = -150x -2264 = -150x -2264 / -150 = -150x / -150 17,49333 = x What does this mean? The same melody as example 1. Even if the numbers are trickier, in example 2, if 1176 people would play in a constant way, runite ores would take 17 minutes and almost 30 seconds to respawn. Of course, the problem is that people log in and out whatsoever when they want to and you can't control that. It is up to the miner to manage this conflict. This will be more explained in the next chapter. At this point, you should take a break, log in game and try out what you've learned so far. Get yourself a drink also. You deserve it! ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 6 ::: Chapter 4 – TRAPS of the Runite Formula I said that the runite formula is based on a linear equation in chapter 2. True but... not true. You see, it could be true IF and only if the quantity of players in a world would stay constant UNTIL the runites would come back. It could be possible but, very very very very (etc) rare. So we cannot allow ourselves to trust on that. This is why it can’t be a "perfect" linear equation and I repeat that this is due to the fact that people log in or out. Time is an independent factor while people depend on the time. Time is ineluctable, immutable. It will always be fixed while players can change. For example, if nobody was playing on a world, theoretically, if we did the maths, the runite would still regenerate, slowly but surely at a rate of 25 minutes and 20 seconds, which in RuneScape would be the longest time for a runite to respawn. That is why I say that time is unchangeable. That is why I designated the variable x for time and the variable y for the people. A small parenthesis I can add is this: In graphs, the x is the horizontal line while the y is the vertical line. y ALWAYS depends on x. So what are the solutions to bypass this trap? The only way is to make regular refresh on the quantity of people playing in worlds which are under your control. Since I got lvl 85 mining, the things I mined the most are runites. I currently am lvl 89, half way to 90. So I can tell you that I have mined enough to say that you should check occasionally each world you control. It is rare that a certain world which you control would terribly raise in players or lowers. Instead, it usually GRADUALLY raises or lowers slowly but yet again, this slow process is a trap. After all, the only solution I have to propose is to occasionally check the quantity of players in the worlds you control. Often is not necessary. When I say "occasionally", I mean to check only once you are about to log in again to mine the respawned runites. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 7 ::: Chapter 5 – BUGS of the Runite Formula Pt. I :!: WARNING :!: Chapter 5 becomes heavier to understand. If you are a beginner with this, I recommend you start using the advices I gave you up to hear and use the formula I gave you before trying to understand this chapter. y = -150x + 3800... Oh really…? I believe you understand what this chapter is about after reading this, or need I say more!? In the previous chapter, I told you that the runite formula can’t be accurately linear. But now, I regret to say that the equation itself is not perfect also... There is a margin of error at large, from 10 to 20 seconds. 20 seconds can mean a lot when mining runite and by experience, I can tell you that this is true. After many calculations, another miner which I knew that thought of it and pushed the calculations I made further up. Here is a already calculated time table based on y = -150x + 3800: Y : X 1,850 – 2,000 : 12:00 1,700 – 1,849 : 13:00 1,550 – 1,699 : 14:00 1,400 – 1,549 : 15:00 1,250 – 1,399 : 16:00 1,100 – 1,249 : 17:00 0,950 – 1,099 : 18:00 0,800 – 0,949 : 19:00 0,650 – 0,799 : 20:00 0,500 – 0,649 : 21:00 0,350 – 0,499 : 22:00 0,200 – 0,349 : 23:00 0,050 – 0,199 : 24:00 0,000 – 0,049 : 25:00 Now here is his time table based on another formula more complicated that I am not aware of: Y : X 2,000 : 12:00 1,950 : 12:15 1,900 : 12:35 1,850 : 12:55 1,800 : 13:15 1,750 : 13:30 1,700 : 13:50 1,650 : 14:10 1,600 : 14:30 1,550 : 14:45 1,500 : 15:05 1,450 : 15:25 1,400 : 15:45 1,350 : 16:00 1,300 : 16:20 1,250 : 16:40 1,200 : 17:00 1,150 : 17:15 1,100 : 17:35 1,050 : 17:55 1,000 : 18:15 0,950 : 18:30 0,900 : 18:50 0,850 : 19:10 0,800 : 19:30 0,750 : 19:45 0,700 : 20:05 0,650 : 20:25 0,600 : 20:45 0,550 : 21:00 0,500 : 21:20 0,450 : 21:40 0,400 : 22:00 0,350 : 22:15 0,300 : 22:35 0,250 : 22:55 0,200 : 23:15 0,150 : 23:30 0,100 : 23:50 0,050 : 24:10 0,000 : 24:30 More precise don't we agree? More complicated to understand eh? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 8 ::: Chapter 5 – BUGS of the Runite Formula Pt. II Those are the times in rounded form. My table is rounded in minutes. Based on this new time formula, each person logging in or out adds or subtracts 0.359 seconds. We are unsure if it is the correct number but it is about that. On the paper, these numbers are fascinating to study but in a practical way, it is too much heavy to manage. Since this table is divided in sections of 50 people, each 50 people adds 17.95 seconds to the times. One thing that is absolutely true in this form is that at 1300 people playing, it takes exactly 980 seconds for runites to respawn, so 16 minutes and 20 seconds (My formula gives 16 minutes and 40 seconds). By doing comparisons with mathematical notions, we could easily identify the true time for runites to respawn in other worlds with different quantities of people playing, since 1300 people and 980 seconds are round numbers. I want to remind what I said on the first paragraph of this post. "On the paper, these numbers are fascinating to study but in a practical way, it is too much heavy to manage." In all this, there is a balance. This entire guide, so far, works out in theory. In chapter 6, I mentioned that players are traps for miners. Even on Earth, with all the physical laws, we do not live, should I say it so, in an "ideal" world. To make a parallel, did you know that in an "ideal" world, by the law of gravity, the time it would take for a feather and a brick to fall down from high, by letting them fall together at the same time, they would arrive on the ground together, still at the same time? It is the resistance of the air (the trap) that makes it so that the brick will arrive before the feather on the ground. The feather in fact would do many pirouettes while the brick would seem to fall in a straight line. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 9 ::: Chapter 6 – HOW DID I DISCOVER the runite formula? By comparison. I knew that the time that things take to respawn was proportional to the number of people playing. I wanted to unlock this secret but for the runite. I logged in in world 2 at Hero’s Guild and decided to calculate the time it would take for the ore to come back. World 2 was a good start because it is "always" full. I knew I had to compare this with another time respawn method. So I decided to log in after in a half full world, with 1000 people playing. Staying logged in, training combat against bats near the ores while waiting, several times after, to be really sure, since, those "traps" could annoy, I discovered that it took around 18 minutes, and more likely 18 minutes and 20 seconds. With two identified time signatures, I rebuilt the others by rounding the time respawn by 150 players, 50 players equalled 20 secs. I doubled, tripled checked many times and managed to conclude that y = -150x + 3800. -150 is the slope, and +3800 is the y value when x is equaled to 0. I found out b with raw, easy logic. In order for my calculations to be true, b had to be equalled to 3800. If I bring back up the formula of that miner I used to know, how much seconds is added or subtracts per player logging in or off? Let’s do the math... 60 players divided by 150 seconds gives 0.4 seconds. 0.4s does not equal 0.359s. The margin error is likely clearer like water from stone shown like this. But yet again, need I say more about what I said in the previous chapter...? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 10 ::: Chapter 7 – TIPS on how to mine runite Since we are talking about runite, let’s talk about valuable tips that will make you earn a few more k per game session while mining runites. ![]() The key thing to remember to be a good runite miner, is to be organised. When I mine, I take notes of the last time I mined the runites, the time it takes for the ores to respawn, the next time I must come back, other comments such as if a miner visited the world, stoled my ores or not, and if others are also controlling the world. To make something straight, when I say "control", it means that you have a world which you are aware of the next time the ores will **spawn. In order to keep track of all those notes, I use a "word processor" and I draw a board. I have 5 columns. From left to right: 1) World currently in, 2) Respawn time of ores, 3) Last time ores were mined, 4) Next time ores need to be mined, 5) Other comments. I am not good with ASCII but here is an example of the board I use: ________________________________________________ | World | Respawn time | Last mine | Next mine | Comments | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Of course, other lines come up next for each world you control but ASCII and I makes two. ![]() When you mine, never play with your private chat at on. It is better to play at friend and even at off. If other miners see you mining, while your private chat would is on, they could add you in their friend list and keep track of the worlds you regularly visit, and probably start stealing the worlds which took you some time to control. If you play in friend mode, bear in mind that you will be logging on and off in your game session. Your friends may find that annoying. For courtesy reasons, playing off would be appreciated for your friends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 11 ::: Chapter 7 – TIPS on how to mine runite Pt. II If you are mining in the Hero's Guild, you must be aware that a bank is far from profit. The closest one is in the Rogue’s Den or the Warrior’s Guild, both found at Burthorpe. There several ways to bank are ores. I find that the fastest way to bank is this one: Get a games necklace and keep it in your inventory. Wear a glory amulet. When you are about to bank your ores, operate your glory ammy and teleport either to Draynor Village or Edgeville. Bank your ores, then use your games necklace to teleport to the Burthorpe’s games room. After that, you have a bit to run back to the hero’s Guild. The reason why you must teleport with two different amulets is this: If you teleport directly at the Burthorpes games room, you will waste more seconds to run to the Rogue’s Den’s bank, and to come out of it again. That is why Edgeville or Darynor is much faster, saving at least 25 seconds, and energy to run back to the runites. 25 seconds is a lot and can mean a lot. Trust me. And don’t come telling me you can’t afford a SINGLE and UNIQUE glory amulet. Runites are 12k each... Gems, especially with a fully charged glory amulet, are very often items we get while mining. I usually get in average 1 gem per 4 runites mined. If you do not wish to keep them, and that you would rather drop them, please, do not drop them near the ores. Instead, drop them out of the map, where no red dot could be visible. It takes some time, but you must do it. If you mine your ores, and that another miner that uses the runite formula sees gems on the ground logging after you are gone, they could presume someone else came in time before them, and might use these gems to calculated appreciatively the next time the runites would respawn, and hence surprise you next time. This is even more important for lvl 84 miners. [...] (Followed on next post.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 12 ::: Chapter 7 – TIPS on how to mine runite Pt. III [...] You guys must use many dwarven stouts. Boy must it be hard to use the runite formula having to deal the effects of the beer. ![]() ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::: Post 13 ::: Chapter 8 – CONCLUSION I hope this guide will have either encouraged you to become runite miners, or for those that are lvl 85 and more, increase your runite mining abilities. This formula, I must remind you, has always been a secret which runite miners have always kept for themselves, probably because they didn't want to share it with others, or just didn't really knew how to explain it. It is not all of the 26,000 runite miners that are aware of it. If you ever see a runite miner, do not hesitate to redirect them to this guide. In final words, I hope you really appreciated reading this guide as much as I enjoyed writing it. If you have any feedback of whatsoever, feel free to post. I read every player’s posts.
