Introduction 2. Gear 2.1 The gear sets 2.2 The Difference the staff makes 2.3 Why perfect gear is so important 3. Technique 3.1 The start of the fight 3.2 Piling 3.2.1 Hybriding in piling 3.2.2 Who hybrids first? 3.3 Noticing when you’re getting piled 3.4 Hugging + dragging 3.5 Why their + your agility level is important 4. Mindset 1. Introduction Well, recently, we’ve been losing a lot of fights. Whether it be due to inexperience, bad luck, bad lvls, it can all change. I know there are some fighting members out there that’d like to win one of these f2p fights for a change. Now in f2p, everything is very uniform. It’s structured. It’s simple. It’s perfect. If you get this downpat + practice it enough, then you we will win some of these fights 2. Gear Ok, gear, the most important thing in your f2p fight. Gear nowadays is structured, everybody has nearly exactly the same thing. Here’s the part on what you should have when you go into a fight. 2.1 The gear sets Alright, there are 2 main gear sets. Hybrid + melee/range. If you hybrid, never show your hybrid gear until you’re in the fight + able to bind. There should be no exceptions for nobody hybriding. Hybrid set + invy (Option 1)– Best option ![]() The blue boots are Swanky Boots, recieved from doing the Gunnar's Ground quest. It gives a +2 mage bonus, which helps in improving your binds. 2.2 The Difference the staff makes The so called “tanking staff” is a great asset to any f2p’er. When you are attacking somebody, you have a defence bonus for magic of “-7”. Now, if you are getting piled + the other team has half a brain to bind you, then you’re going to need the extra defence in magic. Equipping a staff of air/fire/water/earth/magic staff will give you an additional +10 magic bonus. The total overall defence bonus on your magic will be “+3”. Before tanking staff ![]() After tanking staff ![]() Now, I know, you can look at this in 2 different ways. - It wastes a food spot - Gives a +10 mage bonus The reason it doesn’t matter about a food spot is this: When the opposing team binds you, they see you spot, they have time to react for 1 maybe 2 attacks on you. If 10 people are piling you, say only 25% hit a 10. This is at least 20 damage, in that small time. If just 1 bind splashes on you when you’re in a fight that would normally hit, then you’ve already got the most out of your inventory. If you’re a good tank, you’ll avoid more binds, which makes your invy of food last longer. Also, if you notice close enough, you get a +2 def bonus in both stab + slash, as well as a +1 def bonus in crush. Just those 2 more def points on your armour might make the enemy hit “1” damage less. 2.3 Why perfect gear is important You may ask “why do i need this exact gear?” Because every single other clan has exactly the same gear, having lower than them already puts our clan at a disadvantage. Not having the correct hybriding gear lowers your magic att. This will make your binds hit less = less damage on the person getting piled = they tank longer. If the gear was expensive, then I’d agree with alternative gear. However, this gear is cheap as + you'll never lose it, considering it's CWA. 3. Technique Technique is important, 1 less attack on the person being piled = they tank for longer. If you don’t switch your prayer fast enough, you’ll get ko’d. Here’s the technique part of my guide. 3.1 The start of the fight Ok, at the start of the fight, a leader will usually call a death dot. When this happens, click the top (on the mini map) on the leaders dot. This will get you into place. For a lot of the recent fights + probably a lot of the upcoming fights, the boundaries are in the middle of the clan wars arena. At around 5-10s before the barriers go down, drink the str pot. Then, check to make sure your quick prayers are set to Protect From Melee, Steel Skin, Rapid Heal, and Mystic Might Have your full melee gear on, no hybrid gear, as usually the first pile is a ko (with large enough opts). Your job is to find out if you’re the first one piled from the other team. Usually if you are one of the bottom lvls in your team, then you will be piled first, so the most important thing for you to do, is watch the hp circle, next to the mini map. When you death dot, you will usually see the other teams death dot + the leader will on ts, or in the clan chat, give you a first guy to pile, get a click on him. Also, make sure that you're ready to hug around a wall and eat food, because if you are a low level, then you will most probably get piled first. The quick prayers are absolutely essential to putting the melee prayer on as fast as possible. The small time that it takes for you to click on the prayer orb next to your minimap could mean the difference between WG winning or losing. In that time, you can get also ko’d quite easily, so you need to pay attention to your screen and make sure you don't get ko'd. Now the higher you defence level, the less your opponent will hit on you. If you can save 1, 2 or even 3 hits on you right at the start, then you’ve done good. The other team won’t get a ko on you. 3.2 Piling When piling, it is important to get a click on the person when you are attacking them. As soon as they try to go around a corner + hug you, this is the time to click it. Your character will then realise to go around the corner + will get back onto attacking the person. The more people on the 1 guy = the faster that guy will go down. Remember that. 3.2.1 Hybriding in piling Ok, hybriding. Now, there are 2 types of hybriding. “Safe” + “Nonsafe”. Safe hybriding – The ability to bind + no chance of getting noticed as other teams pile is off the screen. Non-safe hybriding – Binding when the other teams pile is on the screen, in plain view of them. These two different methods of hybriding have different consequences for each. When you non-safe hybrid, the enemy is most likely to pile you next or very soon. This is explained below in “who hybrids first”. When you hybrid, you need to be a fast clicker, to hide properly in the pile. The technique to do this is to put on your mage robes, take off the rune kite (if mage lvl is low + not enough hybrids on your team), bind + get a click to attack the guy you just binded. This is explained in the picture below. ![]() In the picture, I have just binded the person (visible by a bind around him + red circle), now notice how the attack option is yellow, this means I already have a click on him. Click this asap + you’ll hide back in the pile. 3.2.2 Who hybrids first? Now, there can be a whole business of “who should hybrid first”. The person who usually hybrids first is piled first. Usually there are 3 kinds of accounts, dependant upon the persons stats. I will use some examples. Person A – 85/85/90 Person B – 87/87/87 Person C – 90/90/85 These are usually the three types of accounts that you would see. Now if these 3 people are all in a pile, then Person A should be the one tanking first. Why you ask? Because I would rather have the higher attackers + str ppl on the pile. Person A also has a higher defence level, so will be able to tank longer. Also, agility matters in this. If you’re like me, with 99 agility #, then you should be one of the first tankers. Wearing out their energy levels is like gold. Then they won’t be able to effectively pile the next person. Also, if you have a high agility level, then you can run from their attacks, instead of actually getting hit. So this can be broken into 2 scenarios, each from the different points of view of each team. Team A – Getting tanked by a guy with high agility + decent defence. Team A is getting next to no hits on the person they’re trying to kill as the person is evading most of their attacks with lots of run energy. Team B – Team B put the person with 87 + 90 attack on the person from team A. With the same agility levels, team B is getting some hits on the person in Team B, wasting their food, coming closer to a kill. As you can see, basically the first people to tank are those that can drag + waste the opponents energy levels, as well as the people which are low combat, high defence. Low combat kind of lures the team into picking them, because I would rather fight a level 105, than a 115. 3.3 Noticing when you’re getting piled TANKING VIDEO!!! - Watch in high quality http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl-BklJd0AY There are two main times during a fight when you’re going to get hit. These are the only times which you should watch the hp bar. These times are: - When you’re hybriding - When your team-mate is killed + the opposing clan has to pick a new pile. When you are hybriding, snipers from the other team may try + come for you. This sucks, I know, it kind of ruins the whole f2p fighting thing. However, they’re around, so watch out for them. Also, when you are hybriding + have the gear on, you’ll be a prime target for the next clans pile. If you are attacked, put on your rune + prayer as fast as you can. If the other opposing clan just got a kill on one of your members, this is the time to watch out for yourself being piled, especially if you are a low level. In this case, if you are piled, pray as fast as you can, run around, then eat. 3.4 Hugging + dragging Ok, the two most important things to tanking effectively. Dragging, I’d say try it if you have excess run energy, or a high agility level. Dragging is the technique of just running for your life, so to speak. In the clan wars arena, the place to run to is quite simple, as there are 4 main “blocks” in the f2p clan war arena. ![]() As demonstrated in the picture, the best technique would be to run from 1 “block” to the other, then across the field to the next. This gets you as far away as possible from the enemy, as some would get caught in the first block that you run to. Apart from that, dragging just shows how hot your agility level is #. Hugging is a bit different. It relies on the fact that jagex made a game that means your characters don’t turn corners properly, because they’re retarded. This technique is the art of “trapping” your enemies in a spot, where they aren’t automatically attacking you. They have to click for an attack. The best tankers can last at least 1-3 minutes in a full out war. This technique is demonstrated below. Ok, here’s an example. I’m being attacked However, when I turn around a corner, the person attacking me gets stuck behind the wall. People attacking marked by red circle, route that huggers would take is marked by arrows. ![]() Hugging is the **** basically, everybody can do it. It doesn’t require run energy. You can also hug rocks, if you can find them, in the middle section of a clan war arena. However, the 4 walls are the main spots for hugging in the f2p clan wars arena. If the warzone is ever changed, there’s a good shitload of rocks on each side, away from the centre of the arena. These are like, “god hugging spots”, and I love them. ![]() 4. Mindset Ok, how you think can play a big part of how you perform. I know wg has been down a bit lately, but that’s no reason to think that way. As long as the ops are even, then both teams have an even chance, regardless of the levels. Only experience in hugging/piling/tanking matters. Even if the other team has the levels, remember, that this isn’t a matter of levels. Instead of thinking about how high their levels are, think about how good it would feel if we just won that. Picture it in your mind, focus on it. Now go do it. Even if you’re down on ops, remember that we have (or are going to get some) experience in clan warring. We know how to come from behind. If you’re winning within the fight, focus on the win a bit more, it’ll feel good. Keep the win in mind, it’ll make you fight 20% better. It’ll make you sharper, faster, more aware. -------------------- ![]() "Journeys are what brings us happiness, Not the destination." ~ Two time ex-raid leader of wg ~ ![]() | ||
