Ok, so I've seen allot of people with virus problems. I recommend Avast to alot of people for many reasons.
    - It is FREE
    - It has been rated the worlds best anti virus(4 years running)
    - It has features which no other anti virus has
    - It's easy to use
    - Registration is also FREE
Things you should know:
    - It's made by Alwil Software
    - The latest version is version 4.8
    - It has been an average rating of 4.5
    - It's 100% reliable, ask anyone who has ever used it.
Ok, so, you've been having some virus problems, what can you do? Well, start by clicking the below link to download.

Boot-Time Scan

A boot-time scan is one of the key features that make it great. It does a deep scan of every file present on your Hard Drive, scanning files that other Anti-Virus programs don't, and it picks up more than just Viruses, it will pick up corrupted items amongst other things.

WARNING - The time it will take depends on the amount of files you have on your PC. If you have alot of files, be prepared to have to wait a few hours.

So! Onto the tutorial.

Go to your desktop and open up Avast!
user posted image

This time, you're going to click "Stop Memory Test", the program will continue to the main user interface.

Once on the main interface, click the "Eject" looking symbol at the top left corner. You will be presented with a menu that looks like this:

Click "Schedule Boot-Time Scan" and a new menu will open.

Make sure your settings are set to the following:
user posted image

You may wish to only scan certain folders, e.g. My Documents, My Music etc, this is fine for your second scan, but for your first scan, I recommend scanning your full computer.

You will be asked to confirm, click 'Yes'. Your PC will restart, and instead of loading Windows, it will go straight into the scan. The scan does work very fast as your computer isn't processing your OS, because it's not open.

Once it's done, it will start up your OS as normal, if you used the settings I used, the infected files will be in your Virus chest. The Virus Chest is an amaizing feature. Infected files can't harm your PC, and they are not deleted. This is so that you can move infected files to the chest to see how your System reacts without them.

You can access your Virus chest by opening Avast, click "Stop Memory Test", and once you're on the main menu, click the chest, and your Virus Chest will open, by default it's set to display Infected non-system files only, so click "All Chest Files" and you can view System files and normal files.

Quotes from Avast users

QUOTE (Leecable)
I have been using avast for way over a year, I have found it to be always reliable, and never had a virus/been hacked ever. Its pro k?

QUOTE (Maddness990)
A few years ago after I got my first PC, I was using Norton. It always waited for me to do something before it acted on a problem. I had several viruses and it sat there doing nothing. My uncle told me about Avast and he told me how to get it. After I downloaded and installed it, I cleaned all the viruses and my computer started to run faster. Since then on I've used Avast, and I've not had any virus related problems.

QUOTE (Dilz621)
Its the best thing ever! Ive been using it since the first time I used a PC. Recommend to anyone.

Tis a nice guide, but I personally wouldn't trust it. Free Anti-virus software is probaly going to be known by hackers/viruses. Feel free to download it though.

I haven't used AVG in years so I couldn't tell you much about AVG :/

And to Surfer, YES, of course free anti-virus programs will be known by hackers. But the thing is, Alwil made Avast because they don't believe you should have to pay to feel safe on your computer. The pro and server version aren't free, but they don't cost much, the costs go towards funding their website, most of the avast team work for free.
