I guess we all have different ways of describing Rick, some more complementary than others. Recently though, this is how I've come to think of him. It's been a little humbling to be honest.

If you can, for a moment, think of WG as being a big lake, and all the members are having a fun time swimming around or ramming into each others' canoes. As with any large analogical lake, there's various unpleasant things down below, just out of sight. Up above many of us are unaware of them; occasionally one might be spotted, and everyone grabs from a various assortment of weaponry and blasts the living daylights out of whatever it is until it either swims away out of sight or dies. Then the remaining members go back to their watery frolicking.

Rick is different. Either due to experience, or just by the fact that he's very perceptive, he's not content to just play around. He does, of course, but at other times you'll see him lugging out his diving gear and going out to a quiet spot to take a look beneath the surface. And he finds problems. But the thing is, we don't really care about the problems down below when they aren't bothering us up above. When Rick comes back up and yells to us that something nasty is right beneath our feet, we're more likely to tell him to fuck off rather than deal with the problem.

After all, we're having fun. And dealing with the problem means we'd have to stop having fun, at least for a little while, and actually pull our weight. It's much easier just to ignore the problems, and only deal with the ones that are bothering us personally, rather than those other vague generalities that don't specifically concern us. But since Rick is the responsible guy he is, he's not willing to just let this stuff go. And that's when people start getting REALLY pissed. After all, if he wants to go diving that's his thing, but it's none of his business to tell US that we have responsibilities here too, right? That's the leadership's job.

For those of us who can't tell the difference between a snorkel and a McDonald's twisty straw, we should be thanking Rick from the bottom of our hearts for all the work he's put into helping us - and that goes for all the other divers who have delved into the shitty depths to make sure nothing big was coming to swallow us whole. Because, no matter how unpleasant it is to go out and deal with problems before they arrive at your front door, if you wait just a nanosecond too long there's going to be casualties.

Those casualties are every person who has ever left this clan in anger; every person who has finally given all they could give and stretched as far as they could go before throwing in the towel. They're the ones who pay for our laziness, and it's the people like Rick who work their asses off to make sure no more leviathans or behemoths are able to catch us unawares. Even if you don't like Rick personally, or you think that he's being rude in how he draws attention to these issues, you have to realize that that doesn't mean there isn't a problem there anyway.

So the next time Rick surfaces beside your canoe and tells you to move off or you might get eaten by something just below your feet, take a minute and maybe think about thanking him instead of being pissed off that your play time has been interrupted and taking a swing at his head with your oar. After all, if you do he might decide to tip your canoe. laugh.gif

A great metaphor Wayne, I see Lordy as a diver as well. I may not agree with Lordy Or Rick sometimes like with the Crucio thing, but I know they are watching out for us and I guess it's all in the past now so we g2 focus on the present and in time the future.

Rick says what he thinks in an honest fashion.

He says what he does to help WG.
I have no problem with that as long as he keeps flaming to a minimum

Good analogy, but just don´t give him a leadership position or you might see him develop a nasty habit of canoe tipping.

Sith..could you at least talk to the guy before you start making assumptions about him? Right now, you're being the "screw you, nothing dangerous is under the water" person. You don't even know Rick, you just assume he's a bad guy? :|

It's not only that, but you could have at least more input than "+1." If you agree with him, at least state why. Saying "+1" is just you spamming and it shows that you don't even care about the topic. And if that's true, don't even bother wasting time posting. Just posting "+1" makes it seem like you're an idiot without any opinions of your own, by the way.

And don't call me a hypocrite. I know I do it too, but I don't do it on serious topics.

Now, back on subject.

I'm perfectly fine with Rick speaking his mind. It's what we need in WG. That's how improvements are made. But the flaming is a little too much. :S

Somebody else couldn't have possibly said EXACTLY what you think.

Not to mention, if you don't want to "waste your time typing" then don't waste your time reading the topic and getting involved anyway.

i did read the whole topic and i put my opinion just in few words. he didnt say exactly what i think just part of it and if i did put all my opinions it would just start an argument with Rick or whoever backs him up so why bother?

You didn't put your opinion in a "few words." In case you didn't know, 1 is a number.

And if you DID put all your opinions into it, it wouldn't start anything. Rick can't see this topic, though I'm sure he knows about. But that's not the point.

The fact that you're NOT posting your opinions just means you're agreeing with people to agree with them. And that's not a good thing.

ok but i did say someone that backs him up would start something like colenel and maths got into an argument on that other post and i dont want to get into an argument with you or anyone else. and i dont quite understand this part of what you said "The fact that you're NOT posting your opinions just means you're agreeing with people to agree with them. When you agree with somebody just to agree with them, it's generally because you want to show that person that you're on their side or something. And that you don't care about the actual situation, you just want to back somebody up.

I'm not trying to start a fight with you Sith, I just think you should have some actual input rather than just posting "+1."

+1 isn't input. It's spam.

But whatever bro, I'm done here. If you want to put it out there that you're an idiot, go for it.

(Note: Before that is considered as a flame bait. I did NOT call him an idiot. I said earlier that when people do that, it makes them seem like idiots with no opinions. Therefore, if it continues, he will only make it seem like he is an idiot more and more. Kbai)
