Once again it is time to recruit another member to join the WG council, this election will be to recruit a General Council.

The ideal qualities that we are looking for in a "General Council" are:
  • Calm
  • Someone that is good at comforting people
  • Have a quality to boost morale when down
  • Previous experience of ACP/Mod CP/IRC Commands would be hugely encouraged
  • Have a Microphone for Teamspeak and is not afraid to speak openly
  • Would be open to constructive criticism
  • Cope under pressure and stress
  • Would not mind spending 4-5 Hours doing forum work (For example, setting up a training programme and so on)
  • Would know how to settle disputes between 2 or more members
  • Would ALWAYS reply to EVERY pm or other means of communication from members
Please be aware that by applying for council you will be expected to devote a large amount of your time to help WG improve and diversify, so if you are not willing to dedicate a significant amount of time towards WG then please do not apply.

As always Eugene has covered the risks of applying for Council:

QUOTE (His_Lordship)
You are about to apply for something dangerous
This clan has been through many council members.
We have never had a stable council.
If you join the council it is very likely you will quit WG soon after.

The council members are placed under EXTREME stress.
You just can't believe how much...
Though I have to admit it has become easier.
(This is because we took away total democracy meaningless drama)

Anyway, you don't know what it's like to be in the council.
Some of you think it is the ultimate glory.
This glory will fade after a few weeks and you will suffer.
Others are in it because they want to change WG.
Then they suffer as well because the stress grows too heavy.

You may look at the council and say not much is being done for WG.
But it is hard for council members to do anything.
We are labouring and we need plenty of breaks.
Sure you may say nothing is being done.
It's REALLY that bad. We just have to keep our workload small.
Otherwise WG gets too stressful.
This is one of the reasons many council members leave.
They don't realise how stressful it gets.

IF YOU WANT THIS JOB, YOU REALLY HAVE TO HAVE A DEEP URGE FOR IT.
So please, before you apply, think VERY HARD.
There is a reason council members are temporary.
When you are in the council, it isn't a lot of fun.
People start questioning what's the point of playing RS if it's not fun.
To be a long lasting member, think of Dorcha3377.
She does it because she loves us. She loves what we're all about.
You need that. You have to draw your happiness from the happiness of WG.
Nothing can prepare you for it.
You may think you know how it's like, but you don't.
You can only understand once you are in the council.

So when you apply, realize that you may be about to suffer.

Once again, do not take applying for this role lightly.
If the above has not put you off, please fill out the forum below as long as you meet the criteria of:

-Minimum of Elite Guardian.
-More than 4 months since you applied to join WG.

CODE
[b]Application for Council[/b]

1. Have you read and understood the warning?

2. What makes you think you can last a long term in the council?

3. Is there anything coming up in the next 6 months that could make you highly inactive?

4. Why are you applying for council?

5. What does WG need most and what will you do as a council member?

6. What puts you above other people applying for council?

7. What is your greatest weakness in terms of being a leader?

8. Is there anything else you would like to say?

10. Do you agree to provide the council with two weeks’ notice if you wish to resign?

As always, if you fail to honour the 2 weeks’ notice when resigning for council you will be banned from Wg and added to the hall of shame.

You will have until 12.01am (midnight) Gmt, Friday the 17th (7.01pm EST, Thursday, 9.01am Friday AEST) to post your application on this thread Do not PM applications to myself or any other Council member, they will be disregarded.

That was a great post Evil.
A very impressive summary of what council means.
I'm very pleased with the way you expressed our job.

Good luck to anyone who is applying.
The words I was quoted to say are quite old now.
I think they are more than 6 months old.
But they are still mostly true.
I have to admit though, it is now a bit easier for the council.
We're not making so many changes like we used to.

First, I'd like to state the fact that I DID read the first thread to this post. I realize that it "necessary" for a person applying to be Elite Guardian or higher...simply because you want someone here who is devoted to the clan. Elite means you've been here a while, and are seemingly well liked. However, it's still a rank that you don't automatically gain when you reach a certain length of time in the clan, it's random as to what time you get the rank, if you even get it at all.

So, I am applying because I think a leader could spawn regardless of what rank; I'm not necessarily saying me, but, anyone who has the will to apply knowing the aforementioned deserves a fair chance.

Application for Council

1. Have you read and understood the warning? Yes, Understood completely.

2. What makes you think you can last a long term in the council? I've lead clans before, and they failed because of the lack of caring from members. You guys care, you guys love the clan, and I think that collectively we can regain some of that good ole 'wg glory. I'm not saying I'd be the best council, it would certainly be hard to when I'm still under some of the best councilors now (ie. dale and abs), but, I believe I can get the job done.

3. Is there anything coming up in the next 6 months that could make you highly inactive? Nothing aside from the normal work and school. School ends December 22, so, I'll be working full time, however... I stay up relatively late at times, So I can still devote the time needed to fulfill the position.

4. Why are you applying for council? Multiple reasons. First being; I obviously want to help the clan. I am an EST-er, and I believe strongly that we do need once, for irc reasons, and forums alike. I'm chock full of ideas, some not always the greatest... but I will always have some for me to bounce off of members for feedback. I'm willing to listen to everyone's thoughts in order to come up with one grand idea, then move to the next to keep the new coming in. I think teamed up with the current non-EST council, we could cover most of our bases as far as helping people go as well as making even more time-friendly events.

5. What does WG need most and what will you do as a council member?
Personally, I would say more members. I think we just need to find some people to get in here, and I'm hoping pvp worlds will help us with that. If we can get more people, we can spread out events more and be more flexible at the events that could use a bigger outcome to help. Trawler, and Pkri, just to name a skilling event and a pvp event...

6. What puts you above other people applying for council?
I am not above anyone. I am equal, and even IF granted council position, I'm not above anyone. I'm hoping that me applying persuades many more to, in order to get a good mix going on.

7. What is your greatest weakness in terms of being a leader? I'm primarily skiller; I would like to war a little more in order to TRY and grasp an understanding on why some of you guys like it so much, but, being that I've skilled for the past 5 years, it's going to be hard to break that.

8. Which place are you mainly applying for? (Secondary Warlord OR General Council)
General Council, I think number 7 answers this.

9. Is there anything else you would like to say? As previously mentioned, I don't think it's necessary for someone who is not Elite Guardian rank to be though of as incapable. If you honestly deem my application as unacceptable, then move on. If that's the case, I'll try again assuming I get promoted some time. Not going to stop though; persistence is one of my strengths. Personally, I believe I fit the criteria given in the Qualities at the beginning of the original post.

10. Do you agree to provide the council with two weeks’ notice if you wish to resign?
If it ever comes to me resigning, yes, I will post notice. However, I don't believe that it would happen, and if so, not for a long time.

Well, I was going to be patient and wait to see if the Elite+ thing got changed to Higher+, but what can I say? I'm impatient. neko2.gif

Application for Council

1. Have you read and understood the warning?

Yes, and you don't scare me Lordy/Evil. :@ <3 Nah, but seriously. I read it and understand it.

2. What makes you think you can last a long term in the council?

I think I'd last a decently long term in Council mainly because of my personality. I'm an honest and caring person. And I'm always here to lend an ear. And if the members don't like a Council Member, then wtf is he doing there anyway? Also, I've never been FULL OUT Clan Leader before, but I've been in a Council-like position before. So I know the ropes for the most part. I also have a great sense of humor. And humor always helps to heal the bad. But I know when it's time to be serious.

3. Is there anything coming up in the next 6 months that could make you highly inactive?

Vince? Inactive? Never. Unless my computer explodes, I'll always be here after school. (3PM EST --> 11PM EST) And I'm on like 24/7 on the weekends. (Woo no-lifers)

4. Why are you applying for council?

Why else is everybody applying for Council? They want to help the clan and they feel that they can do it. I know a lot of people well in WG, and I'm here to be their helping hand. I want to be able to help people on a full-scale level, more than just what I'm able to do now. Also, like my suggestion that I've brought up a few times, I think an American Council Member is needed. And you can trace me if you want, I live in New York. wink.gif During school days, the general American timezone slot never has any Council Members on. Yeah, we have a few staff, but they're not COUNCIL. So I want to fill that spot. neko2.gif

5. What does WG need most and what will you do as a council member?

Honestly, I think WG needs more of an open-mindedness towards events/members etc. Some people like Wars and some people like Skills. But we can do both. And I do both. That's what I want to do. Show people that it's possible, and even more so, convince them to do it. We also need a few more members so attendance becomes less of an issue. But that can be handled at the same time as other things, so yeah.

6. What puts you above other people applying for council?

Really nothing. If WG has taught me anything it's that everybody in this clan is equal. No matter who you are, if you break the rules, you're getting punished. (Thanks Rob56 for doing something recently so I can use you as proof. tongue.gif) Whether you're a regular member or a member of the Council, you NEVER fuck over the clan. But if I HAD to pick something, I'd say that my willingness to help would put me above people. I always want to help people. That's really my main concern.

7. What is your greatest weakness in terms of being a leader?

My greatest weakness...hmmm. I'd have to say my impatience. (As stated at the beginning of the post. xD) I TRY to be as patient as possible, but sometimes I just can't help it. I guess it's the fact that I'm an eager young lad? (Yes, that was intended to sound extremely gay.) But the best part about weaknesses is that they can be strengthened, and I will try to improve on this.

8. Which place are you mainly applying for? (Secondary Warlord OR General Council)

General Council.

9. Is there anything else you would like to say?

Yeah. POWER TO THE VINCE. Nah, that's kinda conceited, isn't it? How about...ANIME RAWKS. Yeah, for all you Anime haters. (Joel) Okay, seriously now. I guess I could say best of luck to all others who are applying, may the best man(or woman) win.

10. Do you agree to provide the council with two weeks’ notice if you wish to resign?

I don't see myself resigning anytime soon, but yeah. Of course. When you're in a position of power, just leaving out of nowhere is fucked up. And I would never do that to the people I care about.

No offense to those who've already put up their applications, but I think by blatantly disregarding the Elite Guardian or higher requirement is a very way of showing leadership.

I think you guys would actually make GREAT leaders, but that doesn't mean you can just should just toss the rules aside. I guess what I'd hope for is for the Council to just let your applications stand, but pay them no notice.

I mean, we've got 100+CB requirements for WG. People with lower CB COULD apply, but they just wouldn't be looked at until they reached the requirements.

You guys should have at least waited for the change (if a change will be made).

I really don't think tossing the requirements for a powerful position in the clan is a great way of starting off your application. It shows impatience and almost a "I want" kind of attitude.

If the change is made, good luck.

So these are applications, not nominations? Makes more sense that way.

It hasn't come up yet, but there's something I think is worth mentioning for when you're reading people's applications. Most often your first instinct is to immediately evaluate a person's abilities based on what you already know of them (or most often, think you know about them). This is an important stage in clan history, SO DON'T HALF-ASS IT. If you see someone's application, the first thing you should do is IMMEDIATELY act like you've never seen that person before in your life. Read their application, and then click through to their profile and look at recent posts/threads to get an idea of who this person is. THEN you can begin letting past experience influence your decisions, and I guarantee you'll make better decisions because of it.

There are many people who believe our council elections are popularity contests, and they will be unless you decide otherwise. You're less likely to vote for someone you're not familiar with, and also you're less likely to vote for someone you know but who you think isn't "serious" enough for the position just because you see them joke around alot. Both these positions are fucked up. Take a step back, just take a minute to make sure you're being unbiased to everyone regardless of how well you THINK you know them. If you do, this could conceivably be the best council we've elected in three years (sorry, but nobody will ever beat the Jenny/Rick/Joe triumvirate IMO).
