Nobody is who they appear to be, everyone is working an angle if they've got half a brain, and you NEVER KNOW WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN!![]() I think that's the most amazing thing, a storyline that's completely unpredictable. Especially the psychotics, and the perspectives in some of the scenes are brilliantly placed. The characters are impressive, and just when you think you've got them under your thumb your whole perception of their character is shattered in an instant. ![]() Even more than that, there are general stereotypes in manga of how things will play out given certain circumstances. This series intentionally manipulates those scenarios and slaps you in the face! 14yo framed for mass murder, sent to a psychotic prison with a psychotic warden and psychotic inmates playing psychotic games for psychotic public amusement, it's brilliant! ![]() Individually, each character isn't really that unique. But put them all together in this meat-blender of a manga and the end result is stupendous. ![]() ![]() End of Chapter Eleven! HOLY CRAP! Don't skip to it though you'll ruin the first 11 chapters and it won't make sense to you anyway. I'm finding myself thinking about Elfen Lied alot while I'm reading this, just thinking about how it just totally got blown out of the water by Deadman Wonderland. Read it! ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

The title is Doubt, and it's a bit of a cross between SAW and Mindhunters. Six players are locked in some sort of storage facility, and apparently one of them is a killer in disguise. I'm up to chapter nine so far and there's been two deaths and one other is missing. So far it's not really original or particularly shocking - besides trying to figure out who the "wolf" is it's actually kind of predictable - but it's an interesting read if you're into that sort of thing.![]() You know who the killer is by chapter 16, but the climax chapter(s) haven't been released yet. I'm curious to see if they let all the good guys die, but I doubt they will. Oh yeah, before I thought Deadman Wonderland looked a bit familiar to something I'd seen before. Turns out the authors also worked on Eureka Seven. Small world. ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

When I was first looking into anime, I found out about a series called Berserk. I never watched much of it, but I've finally started on reading the manga, and I can tell you it's a masterpiece.![]() Kentaro Miura started Berserk in 1990, and its 300th chapter was just published this month. Claymore is just one example of a series that has sprung up to follow in Berserk's footsteps, but so far I've never seen a series that could match it. The sheer scope and volume of the series is just astonishing, and the story of Guts' life is one of the most well scripted of any story of this size, manga or not. The gothic horror of medieval warfare and the demonic presence from a unique Japanese perspective has given rise to one of the most memorable epics we'll ever see. ![]() I've read the first six volumes of the series today off Spectrum Nexus and I'm really looking forward to the next 25. After 18 years, there's a ton of material to work through, which is why I put off starting it for so long, but so far it's been more than worth the time. I don't have time right now to find better scans; best if you go read it cover to cover anyway. Cheers! ![]() And by the way, Griffith is fucking scarrrrry. -------------------- ![]() |
