Just seen it in the full monty 'high frame rate 3D' and it's definitely great....I'd highly recommend going to a cinema that does HFR 3D if you can (There's not that many cinemas that do it, like 1,000 worldwide)

Saw it at 12.01am on 12/12/12 in NZ, so yeah first public screening in the world sup :3

Going to see it again tomorrow in full 48fps 3D which should be interesting, I thought about seeing it in 3D for the first screening, but at midnight I figured I'd be too tired to get the full benefit.

A couple of options

Less CPU, better graphics

Price is $983 before Tax & Shipping.

The graphics in this one are a fair bit weaker than the one above (probably about 50-75% of the power of a GTX 560Ti, depending on the game.  Reference: Anandtech).  On the flip side the CPU is more powerful and I could also fit a second Hard Drive in, so it could be as cheap as $825 if you opted to remove it.

Price is $924 before tax & Shipping, or $825 without the second Hard Drive.

Whichever option you choose really depends on what resolution you want to play games at and what games you want to play.  If you're after BF3 at high res, then I'd go for the 560Ti whereas if you're looking for less graphically intense games the 7770 might be good enough...

On a general note, I wouldn't go for a Thermaltake case.  I found my Element S had endless issues due to poor build quality, it looked and felt like it was cheap and shitty when it definitely wan't cheap. 

That graphics Card still isn't great really, if it struggles with MW2 which is pretty much 3 years old now (and never had a reputation for 'cutting edge' graphics). 

The problem I see with that setup is that it's really unbalanced, you've got a pretty shit-hot CPU, heaps of RAM and a pretty chunky PSU tied to a Video Card that really is more suited to being on an occasional/basic gaming PC.  I also don't see the point of the liquid cooling on a non-overclockable CPU, and those are all areas where money could be saved to upgrade the video card to a higher spec (and stay within the $1k budget).

Could you link me to the site you're looking at so I can see if there's a bit better way to set it up?

Yep, pretty much matches with what I thought above (other than the GPUS is a bit better than expected).

I would still suggest that the Lenovo I posted above is a better option, the HD4000 integrated graphics in that Lenovo would perform pretty much exactly like a 6470M but being integrated into the CPU it will be more power efficient (better battery life), the Lenovo also has a bigger battery which will also help.

The CPU in the Lenovo is also newer & faster, so it will perform better as well :3

Just looking at the specs you've listed here:

• Asus is normally considered a good laptop brand, so that's okay
• i5 2nd gen is 'end of line' now, so I would expect a good price.  The newer (3rd) gen i-series CPU's have generally been reviewed as being noticeably more efficient (Which is particularly important in a laptop, you want your battery to last) so unless it's a decent saving, it would be better going for a 3rd Gen.
• The Dual core performing like a quad core is marketing BS, hyper threading (which is what he's talking about) doesn't really work like that....
• 4Gb of RAM isn't really that impressive in this day and age.... It's okay, but just not great.
• 500GB Hard Drive, it's a laptop hard drive so it will be slow, but that won't affect the gaming performance massively and an SSD would be out of your budget
• If it's an integrated graphics card, that's a bad thing as it will probably be an HD3000 which is the absolute minimum for GW2.  Discrete graphics (Such as your GTX260M) are what you'll get in a gaming laptop and mostly give better performance, lower end discrete graphics are just marketing gimmicks
• I wouldn't get that security system, I've never heard of it and it sounds dodgy.

In general, to me it sounds like the store probably has a laptop that they're trying to flog to make room for their newer stock, so while hey may have paid $800 for it that would have been a while ago and it's not worth that now.

At that kind of Budget I would guess that there's two good options for you, go for the latest generation of intel option which has much stronger integrated graphics (HD 4000) that will be much better in GW2.  The way to ID the different Gen's of intel Chips are:

Core iX - xxx  (First Gen)
Core iX - 2xxx (Second Gen)
Core iX - 3xxx (Third Gen)

So something like a third gen i5 with an HD4000 would be okay for the budget as most discrete cards in your price range will be mediocre.  Here's a couple of options along those lines:

Dual Core i7, Good Brand, similar specs to above... $649
I would suggest that the $50 is worth it for the better CPU and the latest generation hardware.  Lenovo is also considered a better brand, although both Lenovo and Asus are good.

Quad Core i7, 6Gb ram, Good Brand $749
This is also a good option, but getting near your budget cap.  The quad core CPU is unlikely to massively affect gaming performance due to the low(ish) power graphics but it does give better multi-tasking performance.

The other area I would look at are the AMD A-series CPUs, which have better graphics performance.  This could be an option if you're willing to look at a refurbished laptop:

Refurbished Samsung Series 3

There is a new gen of the AMD CPU's out, and the 'A10' series is really impressive.  Unfortunately it doesn't look like Tigerdirect stocks them and even elsewhere there's not a huge range of them available so it's probably not an option.

From the above, if it was me I would choose them in this order:

• Lenovo for $650
• Asus for $750
• Samsung refurbished for $520.... I'm not sure I'd be willing to take the risk....

There's a guy on another forum I frequent that has recently purchased one, here's his notes that might help make up your mind:

Realistically, any decent brand at that size will give you 'beautiful' graphics.... IPS will just make them more beautiful!

I should really add, these are sortof what I look for in a screen (in order of importance) as some people might have diffrent priorities (eg. don't care about anything other than it being big..... despite it having a lower resolution than a cell phone screen):

• Resolution/Aspect Ratio - I wouldn't buy a screen with less than 1920*1200, it also has to be 16:10 (Better than 16:9 for a computer, IMO)
• Size - Really, for widescreen anything under 22" is getting a bit too small.
• Price - Yeah this is fairly important
• Technology - The main two are TN & IPS, these days IPS is cheap enough that it's really not worth getting TN
• Brand - I've had screens from Samsung, Dell, HP so far.... but most well known brands are okay
• 3D Capability - Not that important to me, I change my screens every 2-3 years and I don't think that 3D will be that popular until I replace my current set....

Nope, it will be slightly lower performance probably but the performance per dollar is much higher.  It's also important to keep in mind that any FPS over 60 is really irrelevant (unless you're running 3D) as it's widely accepted as that's the highest frame rate an eye detects.

I see the monitor you've picked is a 3D one, if you intend to try 3D gaming I would stick to the GTX 670.... but be prepared that for perfect gameplay you may need more power (eg. SLi'd/two GTX 670's), see comments below about the monitor....

Personally I would not bother with a 3D Ready monitor at this point, the technology isn't really at the point where it has become widespread yet so there's a mix of a few well setup 3D games along with a shitload of halfassed attempts which really suck.

That screen isn't too bad in general, but personally I would go for an 'IPS' screen as they (among other benefits) have better, more accurate colours and don't suffer from the same bad viewing angles as 'TN' panels.  Probably the most popular screen of that size/type at the moment is the Dell U2412 which has a better panel tech and a marginally higher resolution $399.

Looks like a fairly good setup really, certainly will cope with most current games at a sensible resolution (ie. anything under 2560*1440).

There's only one thing I'd strongly suggest you'd change and that's the SSD, Sandisk is one of the many that use "Sandforce" controllers which have a very bad reputation for unreliability.  I'd suggest either of these:

Samsung 830 128GB - AUD 119
Intel 330 Series 120GB - AUD 118
Crucial M4 128GB - AUD 145

In general, SSD wise Samsung, Intel and Crucial are considered the most reliable.  The Intel 330 series actually has a Sandforce controller, but they also wrote their own firmware for it which means they don't have the same issues.

I note your case is also out of stock.... I'd recommend looking at the Fractal Design cases as an alternative as they have a similar, fairly minimalist look and I've been very happy with my Fractal Design R3.  The R3 should be dropping in price at the moment/near future as the next revision has been released recently (Detailed review here).

Other things I'd suggest:

• You definitely don't need a soundcard, any decent Motherboard will have 'okay' audio (as good or better than a cheap soundcard anyway)
• Do you want to buy Windows 7 right now? windows 8 will be out in October
• The nVidia GTX 660 Ti is due fairly soon, should be 100 USD cheaper than the GTX 670 and looks to have very good performance (Tweaktown Review), it's due out in the next week or so I think and I'd expect to get it for 300-350 AUD.  Depends whether the $100-150 saving is worth the difference?
• There's no stock of that PSU, and I'd definitely recommend spending the extra and getting a modular PSU like this

I assume you've already got a decent screen, keyboard and mouse so don't need to worry about them?

Pretty much, with a clean install of Windows my PC starts up (Cold boot) in approx ~20 seconds on a SSD, it was taking a minute+ on a mechanical drive before that.

For me though, the main difference was that previously I would be late into games on BF3 as it took me longer than most to load levels, now I'm one of the first :3

For laptops in the US I normally look at Newegg.com (mainly because it's well known and fairly trustworthy), I'm sure there's others out there that might be better though.

Onto your 4 points:

• See above, also try buying directly off the manufacturer.  Brands I would look at in that price brand are Lenovo (IBM) & Asus, major brands that I would avoid are Sony, HP (their business laptops are great, but consumer ones suck) and Acer.
• I doubt you could find custom built in your price bracket (assuming you mean Clevo or similar), pre-configured laptops are generally cheaper
• I wouldn't buy second hand with that budget, you can get decent brand new laptops at that price
• Refurbished isn't always bad, depends on the brand really.  I'd also expect a decent warranty to take the risk with refurbished

Something like this would be pretty decent: Lenovo Ideapad

Main reasons I like it:

- It's an up to date model (the CPU & GPU are current gen)
- Decent GPU
- Decent CPU
- It has an SSD & HDD combo..... You definitely want an SSD  ;)
- It's Lenovo, which is generally considered a reliable brand

If you wanted to save a bit of money, there is a Non-SSD option, but I think it's worth the slight difference in price to go for the SSD equipped one.

Your "computer monitor" is actually a 32" TV, branded as a PC monitor..... So Phillips can sell their old TV's at almost twice the price of the competitors.... eg. Samsung 32" TV

Whats even more impressive is your $520 "computer screen" doesn't have to have the other nice expensive bits that a TV has (like a tuner, HDMI port licensing etc) so it actually costs Phillips even less to make.

And assuming your 2006 monitor is an LCD screen, it probably has a better resolution than that 32" "computer screen"... a real computer screen of that size would have a resolution of somewhere in the region of 2560 x 1600 (or to put it in simple terms, 4 times the pixels per inch).

Probably a stupid question, but does anyone know where you can see your records for shit like objects destroyed, people killed in one hit, killing sprees etc?  It's kinda cool to see them when you get them, but it'd be useful to check what they are at a later point :(

Oh yeah, level 50 DH now.... and I'm starting to get to the point now where I can get a little bit (50k+) for some of the weps I'm selling on the Auction house which is sweet,  Got my second legendary which was equally as shit as the first one (a 70 DPS dagger with pretty crap magic stats), but someone paid over 50k for it :3
