House of Random / Re: Showing Off (NEW PC)

That case makes me feel ill.

Oh yeah I wouldn't be too proud about running Crysis 2 on max as it's generally considered a game that doesn't really stress hardware that much, but yeah The Witcher and Crysis 1 are a bit more impressive.

I don't get why you went for the GTX 460 though, I would have gone for the current Gen 560/560 Ti which is a fair bit better :o

--Edit--

Crytek must have read my post and decided to make me pay, now you need SLi'd 570's to max it out, lol http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-2-directx-11-performance,2983.html

Nice guide Joe, didn't even know this had been released.. must have missed that update.
Anyway, I assume since it's a D+D, that it can be done weekly?

Once per month George (Since they made it give massive xp I guess it needs to have a decent gap between goes), you can actually do it as often as you like, but you wan't get any bonus xp for any second/third/fourth attempt etc.

Yep, I'm somewhat eagerly anticipating the release of D3.....

Though I hope they don't do a Duke Nukem with it and take forever to bring it out, only for it to turn into a fairly mediocre game.

Also You do not state 4way SLI all of the 500 series of nvidia are 4way+ SLI compatible the only place you state for 4way sli compatibility is if you have 4 cards or if its your mother boards capability

Dual 590's is commonly reffered to as "4-way SLI" as each Card is effectively underclocked SLi'd 580's on a single board, much the same as dual AMD 6990's are considered 4 way Crossfire as well.

Just to be clear not all 500 series nVidia cards are actually Quad SLI capable (the 550, 560 and 560 Ti spring to mind, all of which are only capable of 2-way SLI, and I assume that lesser cards wouldn't have SLI at all).

Real Life Discussion / Re: Must Watch Movies
June 22, 2011, 09:52:43 PM
The Bourne series (Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum) are always a good watch but most people have seen them now....

Newer films that are good:

Limitless
Unknown
The Next Three days
I quite liked The Sorcerers Apprentice (Probably not a great film, but I like Nicholas Cage :P )
The Chronicles of Narnia is a good 'fantasy' series if thats what you want

Hello and welcome to Wilderness Guardians!  Please beware the mooses they eat babies.  Hide your babies.  Besides that it is serious business here.

Welcome to Wg :)

I'd also like to add a disclaimer to the post above that nothing related to Moose, Zemus or anything with the numbers 3654 added to the end of it should be taken seriously at any point of time.

If you follow this one simple rule you'll fit in here fine ##

Hi, welcome to DG (and WG)

Good to see someone else who like slaying, I've spent a fair bit of time completing slayer tasks now, keep at it and you'll find you quickly gain combat levels :P

Memory (RAM): 8gb Ram, pretty sure its DDR3, MIGHT be DDR5, @ 1600 mhz

I hope it's DDR3, because if it's DDR5 you're coming to us from the future ##

Some nice computers out there in WG, if we all mix n' matched our parts we could build a pretty epic beast (Kyle's CPU..... iJelly) :P

Gaming / Re: New Monitor
June 22, 2011, 11:03:44 AM
Samsung Monitor's are great (Our university seems to use them almost exclusively and they seem to provide nice, crisp pictures), they're probably what I will get when I do my next screen upgrade (Currently running dual Dell 22").

Monitor specs are fairly common to tell 'white lies' upon (an obvious one on that screen is there is no way it actually has a 70,000:1 contrast ratio, they're publishing a dynamic contrast ratio which is not the same, but everyone does that.... The response time is probably Grey:Grey rather than Black:Black as well, which normally gives artificially fast times) but the thing is that everyone does it so you are comparing like to like and they're just trying to catch out people who go "Oooooohhhh Big numbers".

It's a common problem in all consumer electronics like Tv's, Stereo's and similar :(

I'd personally make sure to have 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 resolution. JC hates the aspect ratio in 1080, but it doesn't bother me. ##

I don't hate 1920*1080 resolution, but in this case I do struggle to see the point of paying 50% more (185 Pounds versus 125) for an extra inch and a few extra pixels :P

That seems fairly pricey to me, you could save a fair bit if you moved down to a 22" non-IPS monitor (IPS monitor's are generally better for graphics design/professional work but it's unlikely that you'll notice a huge difference in gaming).

Something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-P2210-22-Pro-Widescreen-TFT-W416K-4W1MD-/170655572796?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_Monitors&hash=item27bbdd633c

It seems hard to justify the extra expense for the 23" screen.

I also wouldn't recommend spending any extra for a 120 Hz screen at this point as the major benefits of 120 Hz (mainly 3D Gaming and Movies) are very new tech and you're going to pay a premium to make use of them as well as needing very particular parts (only some Screens work with some brands of graphics cards etc).

How Much that cost JC?

I custom built mine so it kinda got built over several years (gradually replacing parts, the latest upgrade was the graphics card from a GTS 250 -> GTX 560 Ti) so I'm not 100% sure, Overall I would guess that it would be around $1800 NZD excluding peripherals like mouse, screens etc.

@Tom: No comment sir :P
