Guides / Rules of the Throne Room
April 26, 2014, 09:16:29 PM
The Story of His Lordship's Throne Room

There are very strict rules that apply when entering His Lordship's Throne room. I understand that it's just pixels, but in making such a big deal out of it I can transform it into something bordering the sacred.

What's the point of transforming the throne room in such a way? Well, if something did happen inside that room, like a very important meeting, or a ceremony... well all of a sudden it's a big deal. One goes in there, and you can feel the sense of importance. And it is true, some very powerful moments in this clan's history have occurred inside that room.

That's why you know, when I host an event in there, something big is happening. These rules preserve that degree of importance.

Rules of the Throne Room

There are two categories of rules. Major rules, and minor rules. Punishments are put in place for the breaking of these rules - If no punishment existed, nothing would stop the rules from being violated. As harsh as many of you may think this is, you don't have to go out of your way to follow these rules, so unless you were looking for trouble, you shall not find yourself needing punishment.

MINOR Rules

  • Do not wear head gear that hides the face. If the face is exposed, as with party hats, this is permissible.
  • Do not wield threatening weapons (eg. blades, whips, hammers). Staffs and other non-threatening hand-held items are permitted.
  • Be seated when seats are available. If all seats are taken, rest on the floor beside the door. Do not sit in the middle of the room.
  • Do not speak while seated. Stand to request to speak. One person will be appointed speaker by His Lordship, and takes the middle of the floor.
  • Do not wear items of Zamorak in the throne room.
  • Do not play with the throne room doors.
  • Do not consume food or drink inside the throne room
  • Do not dress comically (eg. chicken outfit)
  • Do not steal seats that other members have risen from in order to speak.
  • Pets and familiars are not permitted in the throne room.
MAJOR Rules

  • Never enter His Lordship's throne room without his permission
  • Do not sit on either throne. His Lordship's is the west throne. The one to his right is reserved for the second in charge of the clan.
  • Do not take screenshots or videos of the throne room.
  • Do not activate the lever for any reason, unless told to by a leader.
  • Do not encourage others to break the throne room rules.
The Safest Option
Show up naked, ask to be let in, sit down and don't say anything. If you want to talk, stand to request it. No screenshots or videos. Stay away from the throne.

Punishment for Violation

For minor rules, punishment will be several warnings, followed by removal from His Lordship's friend list, rendering the violator unable to return to the clan house, and a forum warning and short suspension from the clan (a few days).

For major rules, punishment begins immediately with removal from the friend list and a forum warning, and there are no verbal warnings. A longer suspension will apply.

New members are exempt the first time it happens, as they are not yet expected to know the rules. The new member will then be alerted to the rules. A second violation carries the same penalty as all other ranks.

You may question at this time, why the punishment is so harsh for what may seem trivial. To break these rules, a person has to deliberately go out of their way to challenge His Lordship's authority. The throne room is a separate room to the rest of the house, and so there can be no accidental entries. Anyone breaking the rules, especially the major rules, does so deliberately, and with the intention of challenging His Lordship's authority. It is also a sign of disrespect toward the entire clan who uphold the reverence of the event.

As these rules are unique to WG, there may be questions. This topic remains open so that those questions may be asked.

This is the first four minutes of my new orchestral work, "Lifequest", written as I was trying to get out of a crippling creative block. Extremely emotional, self-indulgent and personal. The remaining fourteen minutes of the piece are still under construction!

20 hours of research later and £30 poorer, I've got some decent idea about which version of Runescape is more attractive to the general public.

Six subjects, 45 minutes on each version.
The variables and limits of the experiment are detailed in the video.
Six people does not define a demographic, but the results are still pretty clear.

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB0aGtFbh_4WDJJTQSv1l02rOt-KIg-NH

I made this playlist for people who don't normally listen to classical music.
It's music that I feel can be easily understood by non-classical listeners.
The rule I put on myself is that a composer can only have one piece featured (eg. only one piece by Mozart).
This is so that people can discover a really varied program.
I'm also avoiding all the most famous pieces (though many of these pieces are quite famous in classical circles).
I also tried to keep them short (ie, under 12 minutes)
If you can recommend any pieces to add to this playlist, please let me know.

Enjoy!

Review: Runescape Legacy Combat

In this video I both summarise what Jagex have told us, and offer my feedback in the form of support, criticism and suggestions.
I find it easier to post videos than to write out essays.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fixing Runescape

This is a video that asks the big questions about the three major updates for PKing this year:

    The Wilderness Revitalisation (07)
    The New EoC Beta (RS3)
    Combat Legacy (RS3)

Are they good and will they work?
Are they enough to get this game back on track?
Why aren't new players joining Runescape?

Get your fucking pledge in before it's too late.
This game is going to be huge.

For $40 (£25), you get access to the Beta, a physical copy of the game, the soundtrack, the making-of DVD, printed manual, and special forum access.

And have a look at the bloody game itself. That is worth double what you're paying.
Hurry before they figure out out and charge ridiculous amounts when it's commercially released.

Alice Herz Sommer - The Lady In Number 6: Music Saved My Life - Official Trailer

I am throwing this trailer all over the place.
Felt immediately pulled by it because I'm a musician, and in JUST the trailer I was grabbed by a lot of things.
Things that sum up what it means to be a musician.

"My world is music. I'm not interested in anything else"
Well, I personally am interested in a lot of things, but all fall short before music.

"Music is in the first place of art."
Agreed. Music is the greatest of all art forms. Discuss if you feel like it.

"When we can play it can't be so terrible"
If we're immersed, the world around us is beautiful no matter what. It's like a drug.

Can't wait to see this.
I hope that in watching the trailer you'll come to understand me a little better.

Creative Corner / Broken Compass (for Solo Guitar)
December 26, 2013, 09:04:32 PM
This is the latest piece of music I've written.

Broken Compass
for solo classical guitar,
dedicated to and performed by Giacomo Bigoni.

I find it very difficult to write for guitar, harder than for any other instrument.
The hardship lies in the fingerings and the limitations of the hand on the frets, and working out what's playable.
It's my biggest struggle as a composer I think, and this is my first real shot at it, but it won't be my last :)

This title comes from the idea of losing a sense of direction.
This music constantly meanders away from a dance-like accompaniment as if it were lost, and going around in circles.

Broken Compass - Eugene Marshall [2013]

Screenshot of the score as I was composing it.

Creative Corner / Harp Level: 99
December 07, 2013, 04:21:16 AM
This is a harp piece I wrote when I was studying my undergraduate music degree.
"Once Upon a Winter's Wake" is so challenging that no performer would touch it for five years...
Until it fell into the hands of the masterful Anna Quiroga.
I am very proud of this composition, and her beautiful performance. I've waited a long time for this to see the light of day.

Once Upon A Winter's Wake - Eugene Marshall [2008]

The piece celebrates the positive qualities of winter, a season we normally associate with gloom and cold.
The freshness of the air, the crispness of the sunlight... things we often forget.
