How to manage a large remote team?

May I ask for your opinion on the issue I'm interested in? What do you recommend for controlling remote employees if we have 50+ people in the team? We have a dynamic team, all working from different parts of the world, but recently difficulties have started to appear. The efficiency of task fulfillment has decreased, some employees do not contact us in time, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to understand who really works and who is just listed in the team. At the same time, you want the solution to be convenient and not cause discomfort and a feeling of total control. What are the best tools or methods to effectively manage a remote team of this size? Maybe someone has some personal experience? Any advice would be appreciated!
