What's with the oldschool forum throwback and why do we have a "Like this post" option that's extremely similar to those on social networking sites?

I think it's cool and all, but why..

Are you drunk? Because everything you just brought up is logically a betterment to this community. I don't see a flaw or anything wrong with either of these updates.

Why is it that all you "Ex-Members" always be-little this community on IRC/outside of IRC?
