The Synergy (Syn) was a clan established by Eragon Cd in 2004, and the first exodus of the Wilderness Guardians. Initially a rivalry began between the two clans, though a peace treaty and an alliance were established within the same year. Syn survived for around four years, and is considered to be one of the most successful of WG's exodi in terms of in-game strength.

Formation

There are conflicting accounts regarding the formation of Syn - WG's historical record states the exodus occured around April 2004, while Syn's own historical record has the date of the clan's opening as 2 August 2004. It is unclear which is accurate - however, Syn's records are known to have several other errors, such as describing WG itself as an exodus of The Sabres as a result of His Lordship being unhappy with TS's leadership - this is entirely false. Eragon Cd is also seen in the chatbox of a screenshot from a WG raid in September 2004, though it is during a fight and unclear which side he is on.

Syn was formed by Eragon Cd and several other former WG members. Names mentioned include Sudeki Cd, Maddmurdok, Jjssvv, Kanchellsis, Deadly Dusty, Kurt of V, and Dragoneye 79. Syn also claims to have had unofficial help from Rick Hamm and Flame Reece, who were part of the WG council at the time. Rick Hamm also briefly left WG for Syn, but returned to WG after a few weeks. The founding members were mainly those unhappy with WG's leadership - in particular, Eragon Cd believed that WG's ARPK policy made the clan no better than the smaller clans and solo PKers which WG hunted.[1] His Lordship has stated that for a long time prior to Syn's opening, he pleaded with Eragon Cd that he rejoin WG and not form his own clan. However, these efforts proved futile.

Rivalry

WG history states that within two weeks, Syn had become approximately half as strong as WG. His Lordship attempted to allow multi-clanning between the two clans in order to help restore some of WG's lost numbers. However, at some point a fight broke out and the two clans became rivals. The hostilities lasted for three or four months throughout mid-2004, with no attempt at resolution. His Lordship's RuneScape account was also hacked for the first time during the rivalry, though there is no clear evidence that Syn was responsible. The account was successfully recovered.

Syn history states that a "silent war" was initiated by His Lordship which lasted nearly five months. This began with the hacking of Syn's forums - allegedly by His Lordship - before they were even open to the public. Eragon Cd retaliated by receiving intelligence from Rick Hamm and Flame Reece regarding WG's raids, and passing the information to stronger clans. In response, WG hunted Syn on almost all of the clan's early raids. A climax of the rivalry was when Eragon Cd managed to recruit Lord Xin - a former WG co-leader and the real life brother of His Lordship - to Syn. Lord Xin's RuneScape and forum accounts were then hacked, causing disarray in WG.[2]

As of 2020, His Lordship has expressed strong criticism in regards to Syn's historical account, and denies involvement in the hacking of Syn's forums. His Lordship was the leader of one of the most honour-bound clans of the era, often prioritising the honour code over WG's own prosperity.

Alliance

It is unclear when hostilities ended, but it is believed to have been around late 2004 when Eragon Cd and His Lordship sat down for a discussion and overcame their differences. Given the two clans' similarities (ARPK in particular), an alliance was formed.[3] Syn was invited to join WG on their weekly European raid, and took part in WG's first anniversary - taking part in two fun wars in December 2004 and January 2005.

Eragon Cd also fell into inactivity around this time, and Wiz Ma Ter became the second leader of Syn.[4] She was eventually removed by Eragon Cd and replaced by Maddmurdok after internal disputes, which resulted in several exodi. The first clans to break away from Syn were Death Jesters, Sleeping Dragons, Omega, and Rune Titans over the course of January and February 2005. Several members also left to rejoin WG or BlacKnights, which resulted in a loss of nearly all of Syn's members.[5] In mid-2005, RT closed and members returned to Syn, as well as several from Omega, bringing stablity back to the clan with approximately 200 or more members.[6]

Syn history also records a rivalry with the Death Legions, which resulted in a large scale war during or after April 2005.[7] The allied ARPK clans were Syn, WG, The Sabres, SD and Kentai Shadow, and their opponents were DL, The Mighty Red Dragons, SCUM, Zeonic Forces, and possibly others (Echo of Silence appears in one screenshot). Syn and allies claimed victory over DL after several hours of fighting, having cleared DL from the battlefield with over 120 members remaining. DL allegedly returned to the battlefield afterwards to try and claim a victory of their own. This war is not mentioned in any of WG's historical accounts.

At some point in mid-2005, Syn and WG were two of six clans which helped reform The Federation. The reiteration of the syndicate was considered significantly more active and successful than the first - however disputes arose, and WG withdrew on 30 September 2005, but maintained their alliance with Syn. The last mention of Syn in WG's history comes from early 2006, when WG was unfortunately paired against them in a fansite-hosted clan tournament, though further details of the battle or the tournament have not been recorded. Details regarding the termination of the alliance are unknown.

Post-Alliance

Syn's historical records state that the clan continued to grow steadily and climb the ranks, reaching their peak around May 2006. Syn hosted PK trips multiple times per week with consistent pulls of over 30 members, and engaged in short-preparation fights almost daily. During the first week of May 2006, Syn were ranked at #24.

In the same month, Syn sent out declarations of war to several elite clans, one of which was accepted by Awaken (a predecessor of the better known Violent Resolution), who were ranked #14. With two weeks' preparation, Syn prepared as best they could through strict training regiments. This closed the gap between the clans' average combat levels to just 3, one week prior to the battle. However, shortly before the war Syn suffered two major setbacks - the accidental banning of four of their most valued PKers, and an exodus known as The Crusade which reduced Syn down to approximately 45 members. Syn were forced to back out of the war, and subsequently suffered three more exodi: KnockOut, Stoned Dragons and Malice - each of which were formed by a former Syn council member. This sequence of events reduced Syn down to just six members.[8]

At this point, Jlushin was leader of Syn. The collapse during the summer of 2006 devastated the clan, and they never managed to fully recover.[9] However, Syn remained active for a further two years and returned to a reasonable standard, up until the changes to PvP combat and trade which occured on 10 December 2007. Syn attempted to adapt to Bounty Hunter, but on 19 February 2008 the area was made into a single-combat zone, effectively removing all opportunity for dangerous multi PvP within the game. Attempts to work as a clan in single combat were unsuccessful, and the Syn leadership (Jin 89 rc and Jlushin as Supercoke) made the decision to close the clan on or around 29 June 2008, after approximately four years.[10]

Exodi and Junior Clan

Syn had a total of eight exodi over the course of its lifetime:

Syn also had a junior clan, The Synergizers, several members of which joined the pre-existing clan Valeria Victrix.[11]
