Guest Lounge / Forums Hacked
November 24, 2012, 11:59:05 PM
All guests are requested to change their passwords, as one of our admins was recently hacked... and that account in turn messed with a whole bunch of other accounts including my own and Keanu's.

We believe we've contained the problem, but for extra safety, please change your passwords.
Remember, passwords need to be a combination of UPPER CASE letters, lower case letters, numerals (0-9) and special characters (!@#$ etc.)

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Are any of you guys fans of Star Trek Enterprise?
It was my assignment to re-score the opening title sequence.
Have a listen, and then listen to the original.
Don't bother trying to understand the words. They are jibberish.

Should I even use them on Nex?

Creative Corner / Calling All Musicians

Making a playlist for my farewell party tomorrow.
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5D4A644F657B35C5&feature=edit_ok
Only British music allowed.

Need you to decide a few things for me:

1. 8.5 hours is too long. Can you advise me which songs I should cut (based not just on your taste but what might simply not go down well with people)
2. Need to shuffle the order so that there's a good mix of energetic and slow music, with the most rousing ones in the first half, slowly adding slow ones in (not suddenly)
3. Need to shuffle the order so that the songs blend well, but also come from different eras. I don't want all the 2000's+ songs in one spot and all the 70's in another.
4. I'm trying to limit it to 3-4 songs per artist. If you think there's a song that's not on there that SHOULD be, tell me what to replace.
5. The Spice Girls and Harry Potter Songs are trolls. They are non negotiable.

EDIT: As tempting as it is for you to SUGGEST songs, I already said the playlist is too long... so we'll have to cut out a load of sings before I even consider adding any.

Real Life Discussion / A Feast of Ice And Fire
August 06, 2012, 03:54:37 AM
Food from the book "A Feast of Ice and Fire", recreating recipes from George R. R. Martin's popular series. This feast comes from the Wall, and includes food that was eaten by the men of the night's watch.

The whole meal took about 5 hours to cook and 2 hours to clean.
I should add that this recipe was made using almost entirely medieval ingredients. That was ****ing hard. Some of the spices in particular were beastly to procure, especially the mace and grains of paradise.
Even had to replicate medieval spice mixes - Poudre Forte and Poudre Douce.
My brother and I couldn't even finish half of it :(
Anyone coming to the UK IRL meeting will be treated to a Feast of Ice and Fire.

"If I could fly, I'd be back at Castle Black eating a pork pie" - Sam Tarly.

Onions in gravy - technically never cited at the Wall, but eaten in Winterfell by Benjen Stark of the night's watch. Probably also eaten at the wall.

The Lemoncakes are truly the only foreign food to the Wall. They are food from King's Landing, but we'll assume that Tyrion brought them up when he was visiting the wall.

Crusty white bread - found all over the Seven Kingdoms. Baked over a pan of water to give it extra crispness.

Deep fried medieval applecakes.

Pease porridge, a staple afternoon food for the Men of the Night's Watch.

Wine, mulled with cranberries, almonds and raisins.

No fake pastes please, and no specially prepared ones.
If you're going to comment on someone else's Ctrl+V, you have to also post your own.
If nothing comes up, type [Nothing]

If you want to comment on someone else's paste, you may do so... just make it clear that what you're typing is not a paste.

No, I am not fucking Keanu any time soon, BUT LOOK AT WHAT HE DID!

Technical Support / HELP! Document got fried!
July 07, 2012, 03:39:38 PM
http://www.wildernessguardians.com/his_lordship/Appendix-1.docx

The document will load but it can't get tot eh last few pages.
Instead it just scrolls back to the first page.
I'm also suspicious of the large file size, which up to this disastrous point had made work slower.

I'm hoping I can keep working on that document and reduce the file size.
It's really the images that have made it so large. I don't know what to do.
I might need to start a new document and save what I can from the old one, but I can't even save those pages as a PDF. I'm in trouble!

Achievements / ACHIEVEMENT: Unbannable
April 25, 2012, 06:16:28 PM
No lol, I'm not unbannable, and I don't plan on pushing my ridiculous luck.
But this is the first ever RS achievement I've posted in WG I think... or is it the second?
Anyway it's a big deal lol.

Permanently banned for advertising wg.com (2005)
[Unbanned]

Permanently banned for swearing in the wilderness while all of RoT was fallen in behind me and mass reported me (2006)
[Unbanned]

Permanently banned when I got hacked and the hackers enacted a scam on my account (2007)
[Unbanned]

Permanently banned when I attended the wilderness removal riots in Falador (2007)
[Unbanned]

Permanently banned from the Clan Leader forum after Timbo saw my comic of him, and after I told him I'd find him with a shotgun (2012)
[Unbanned]

All of these unbanns happened because of my sweet talking, and some ridiculous luck.
How many accounts survive 4 perm bans and an exile from a private forum (which is equivalent to getting P-Mod removed)
Don't try this at home kids.
I don't want to go for anything else. I don't think I'll make it through the next one.

Real Life Discussion / Cambodia 2012
April 11, 2012, 05:26:36 PM
I tried to restrict it to my absolute favourite photos, but there were so many!
I've limited it to my top 10.
Feeding a 4-month-old tiger cub at the tiger temple. There are only four cubs, and there were only eight of us there to play with them and tend to them, so we had lots of quality time with them.

Meditating under a beam of sunlight in the Tomb Raider Temple, known officially as Ta Prohm.

Playing with the elephants by the Burmese border. They were spraying us and an epic water fight ensued. No points for guessing which side won between the humans and the elephants. We also got to play rodeo, where we'd sit on top of the elephants and hold onto their ears while they shook their heads and tried to toss us into the water. I managed to hang on one time out of three :P

Eating a deep fried spider in Skuon, also known as Spiderville. They taste like chicken... seriously.

Holding the live version of what I had just eaten. They may have been brothers. These things are so soft and furry. They are slow and don't sprint up your arms. They are gentle and loveable ♥

Me standing on some human bones that had emerged after rain had washed away some of the path. At many points I was unknowingly standing on victims' clothes, bones and teeth. This was intense.

Children from a small Cambodian community were dancing for us before dinner. This is a traditional coconut dance.

Finding a landmine site in the middle of the Cambodian countryside.

I was moved by the grace of this woman walking in this photo, amidst the poverty around her. There's a certain dignity in her expression that captivates me. The village around the lake was truly confronting. Clothing for the children was... optional. No child porn jokes please!

Spot the plank.
Creative Corner / Ferona

Back in 2006/2007, DBN and I were going to create a game called Shadowcast, an MMORPG.
This would have been the map:

^Right click > View Image to expand^

What I love about this map is that it is geographically feasible, unlike Runescape where deserts are a short walk away from icy mountains, and tropical islands that are square in shape.
Geilenor is seriously flawed... seriously.

Mine is all plains and forests, with two great mountains in the middle.
It's only an island, but to give you a sense of scale, the town in the bottom left, Clara, is about the size of Varrock.
So there is a lot of wilderness and no mans land in between, but truly that is where all the excitement is.
I would have placed great roaming boeasts, haunted sections of a forest, travelling minstrels that you could only stumble on by chance etc.
It's a game where the cities are only starting points, and the real adventures are out in the open wilderness.

And please do look at the map and imagine the backstories to it.
I spent at least 30-40 hours inventing this world.
I made sure all the names were significant.
There is not a single insignificant name.

I'll name a few now:

Dendon's Teeth (top of the map) - A series of rocky outcrops in the water. Dendon is an underwater beast that will die if it is ever seen by a human. It is extremely powerful save for this one weakness. It doesn't actually appear in the game, but it causes great ocean storms and whirlpools... so no it is never seen.

Fratres (centre-left, by the lake) - The latin word for "eternal bond of brothers". A community of spiritual men who worship the land's deity, also skilled in a westernised version of ninjitsu. They develop cutting edge methods of assassination (via weapon technique, poison, the lot) but they kill for the greater good.

The Pilgrim's Sea (bottom left) - This land (since it is an island) was undiscovered by man for a very, very long time. The first men who arrived 800 years ago were pilgrims escaping persecution in a distant land. They founded the city of...

Geroba, which in their old tongue translates to the meeting point between the earthly realm and the spirit world, though this is all but forgotten by modern man. The city fell into ruin under mysterious circumstances and was abandoned 500 years ago, and then in the last century reclaimed and rebuilt. The city now looks like a hybrid of the old style and the new style of architecture.

Clara (near Geroba) - The town near Geroba, named after the wife of a ruling elder in Geroba, who reclaimed the city in the last century. It is a new town, built around a giant statue of Clara, who gave her life in exchange for her husbands, who was mortally wounded in a hunt. She was one of the few people who knew the incantation of life, which allows the life force of one person to be moved into another. This incantation of course can be used for great evil, but so good was she that rather than sacrifice any other living thing, she gave herself up to save her husband. When her husband had recovered, he left Geroba and spent all his wealth building Clara in her memory.

Unnammed Village (near Clara) - This is the starting village for all player characters. You wake up on the shore with nothing but a harp-like instrument (but not quite a harp) and a small boat, not remembering anything of your past. The village has the basics of life in Ferona. A chapel for the worship of the diety, docks for fishing, a town hall etc... the whole village is built around the grand oak, next to which is a deep well that draws water from near the oak's deepest roots. It is said to give long life to those who drink from it. This village is made of people who left Clara, seeking a simpler life without the complexities of living in a big town.

______________

Those are six names on the map.
Imagine what I thought up for the rest!

I still want to turn this into a game.
PLEASE comment with your thoughts. Don't just read and close, or tl;dr
