<p>The Synergy (Syn) was a clan founded by Eragon Cd in 2004, and the first exodus of the Wilderness Guardians. Initially a rivalry began between the two clans, though a peace treaty and an alliance were established within the same year, which lasted until around 2006. Syn is considered to be one of the most successful of WG's exodi in terms of in-game strength, and survived for around four years before their closure in 2008.</p>

<p>There are conflicting accounts as to exactly when the clan opened - WG's historical record states the exodus occured around April 2004, while Syn's own historical record has the date of the clan's opening as 2 August 2004. It is unclear which is accurate - however, Syn's records are known to have several other errors, such as describing WG itself as an exodus of The Sabres as a result of His Lordship being unhappy with TS's leadership - this is entirely false. Eragon Cd is also seen in the chatbox of a screenshot from a WG PK trip in September 2004, though it is during a fight and unclear which side he is on.</p>

Eragon Cd was a member of WG in 2004 who found himself to be unhappy with the leadership - in particular, he believed that WG's ARPK policy made the clan no better than the smaller clans and solo PKers which WG hunted.<ref>Parth (29 June 2008), "The Beginning", The Synergy. Syn also claims to have had unofficial help from Rick Hamm and Flame Reece, who were part of the WG council at the time. <p>By the time Eragon Cd decided to post his resignation from WG, Syn had approximately 10 members - most of whom were ex-WG. Names mentioned include Sudeki Cd, Maddmurdok, Jjssvv, Kanchellsis, Deadly Dusty, Kurt of V, and Dragoneye 79. Syn also had unofficial help Rick Hamm and Flame Reece, who were WG Council members at the time. Rick Hamm also briefly left WG and joined Syn, but returned to WG after a few weeks. Naturally this resulted in a heated relationship between Eragon Cd and His Lordship - in a 2020 conversation with Vio, His Lordship stated that for a long time prior to Syn's opening, he pleaded with Eragon Cd that he rejoin WG and not form his own clan - but these efforts proved futile.</p>

<p>WG history states that within two weeks, Syn had become approximately half as strong as WG. His Lordship attempted to allow multi-clanning between the two clans in order to help restore some of WG's lost numbers. However, at some point a fight broke out and the two clans became rivals. The hostilities lasted for three or four months throughout mid-2004, with no attempt at resolution. His Lordship's RuneScape account was also hacked for the first time during the rivalry, though there is no clear evidence that Syn was responsible. The account was successfully recovered.</p>

<p>There is evidence of hostilities between WG and Syn for approximately one month - from Syn's opening on 2 August 2004, to moves to mend ties starting on 6 September 2004. However, WG's written history states that a rivalry between WG and Syn lasted for three to four months in mid-2005, and Syn's history states that it lasted around five months.</p>

<p>Syn history states that a "silent war" was initiated by His Lordship which lasted nearly five months. This began with the hacking of Syn's forums - allegedly by His Lordship - before they were even open to the public. Eragon Cd retaliated by receiving intelligence from Rick Hamm and Flame Reece regarding WG's PK trips, and passing the information to stronger clans. In response, WG hunted Syn on almost all of the clan's early PK trips. A climax of the rivalry was when Eragon Cd managed to recruit Lord Xin - a former WG co-leader and the real life brother of His Lordship - to Syn. Lord Xin's RuneScape and forum accounts were then hacked, causing disarray in WG.<ref>Nikos (29 June 2008), "A shaky start (late 2004)", The Synergy. <p>A few days after the hacking of WG's forums, on 6 September 2004 His Lordship asked for a volunteer diplomat to discuss relations with Syn in a move to mend ties. Palidore, a Council member who maintained his friendship with Syn and Eragon Cd volunteered, and relayed a message to Kanchellsis (then Co-Leader of Syn) requesting peace. Eragon Cd responded stating that he still held some resentment towards His Lordship - in the past, His Lordship had publically advised The Sabres not to ally with Syn on the Rune Village fansite, and referred to Eragon Cd as an "idiot". Nonetheless, Eragon Cd accepted the offer of peace and a neutral stance between Syn and WG - ending the rivalry.<ref>His Lordship (6 September 2004), "Clan Diplomat Wanted", S4. <p>Syn also developed a rivalry with the clan Death Legions. On 9 April 2005, WG and other ARPKing clans such as The Sabres and SD supported Syn in the Synergy vs Death Legions - a large-scale war between Syn and DL, with multiple allied clans supporting on both sides. The battle quickly gained the attention of other clans in the area, and spread throughout much of the deep Wilderness and maxing out the game server ("world") to its limit of 2,000 players. After several hours of fighting, the ARPK alliance managed to clear DL and the other PK clans, though DL attempted to return and claim a win for themselves afterwards.<ref>Parth (29 June 2008), "Syn vs DL (Allied)", The Synergy. <p>Around May of 2005, Syn and WG were two of six clans which helped reform The Federation. The reiteration of the syndicate was considered significantly more active and successful than the first - however disputes arose, and WG withdrew on 30 September 2005, but maintained their alliance with Syn.</p>

 +
<p>The last mention of Syn in WG's written history comes from early 2006, when WG was unfortunately paired against them in a fansite-hosted clan tournament, though further details of the battle or the tournament have not been recorded. Syn's historical records state that the clan continued to grow steadily and climb the ranks, reaching their peak around May of 2006. Syn hosted PK trips multiple times per week with consistent pulls of over 30 members, and engaged in short-preparation fights almost daily. During the first week of May 2006, Syn were ranked at #24.</p>
 +

 +
<p>In the same month, Syn sent out declarations of war to several elite clans, one of which was accepted by Awaken (a predecessor of the better known Violent Resolution), who were ranked #14. With two weeks' preparation, Syn prepared as best they could through strict training regiments. This closed the gap between the clans' average combat levels to just 3, one week prior to the battle. However, shortly before the war Syn suffered two major setbacks - the accidental banning of four of their most valued PKers, and an exodus known as The Crusade (TC) which reduced Syn down to approximately 45 members. Syn were forced to back out of the war, and subsequently suffered three more exodi: KnockOut, Stoned Dragons and Malice - each of which were formed by a former Syn Council member. This sequence of events reduced Syn down to around six members by July of 2006<ref>Lemur (23 July 2006), "Open your eyes synergy", The Synergy. <p>In mid-July of 2006, Syn were removed from WG's list of allies and replaced with TC. The Synergy (Syn) was a RuneScape 2 clan founded by Eragon Cd in 2004, and the 1st exodus clan of the Wilderness Guardians. Initially some hostilities occurred between the two clans, though a peace treaty and an alliance were established within the same year, which lasted until around 2007. Syn is considered to be one of the most successful of WG's exodi in terms of in-game strength, and survived for around four years before their closure in 2008.

Eragon Cd was a member of WG in 2004 who found himself to be unhappy with the leadership - in particular, he believed that WG's ARPK policy made the clan no better than the smaller clans and solo PKers which WG hunted.[1] He had prior experience leading clans in other MMORPGs, and after a conversation with Rick Hamm, he decided to start preparations for a clan named "The Synergy" on 8 August 2004.[2] After creating a forums, Eragon Cd shared the plans with some of his friends in WG, and his real life friend Sudeki Cd. Many of them expressed their interest in joining him and leaving WG.

By the time Eragon Cd decided to post his resignation from WG, Syn had approximately 10 members - most of whom were ex-WG. Naturally this resulted in a heated relationship between Eragon Cd and His Lordship - in a 2020 conversation with Vio, His Lordship stated that for a long time prior to Syn's opening, he pleaded with Eragon Cd that he rejoin WG and not form his own clan - but these efforts proved futile.

Rivalry

There is evidence of hostilities between WG and Syn for approximately one month - from Syn's opening on 2 August 2004, to moves to mend ties starting on 6 September 2004. However, WG's written history states that a rivalry between WG and Syn lasted for three to four months in mid-2005, and Syn's history states that it lasted around five months.

WG history states that within two weeks, Syn had become approximately half as strong as WG, and His Lordship attempted to permit multi-clanning between the two clans in order to help restore some of WG's lost numbers. However, at some point a fight broke out and the two clans became rivals. Hostilities continued throughout mid-2004, with no attempt at resolution. His Lordship's RuneScape account was also hacked for the first time during the rivalry, though there is no clear evidence that Syn was responsible. The account was successfully recovered.

Syn history states that a "silent war" was initiated by His Lordship. Lord Xin's RuneScape and forum accounts were then hacked, causing disarray in WG.[3] This has partially been confirmed to be true - on 4 September 2004, the entire contents of WG's S4 forums and His Lordship's forum account were deleted by Rick Hamm. In a follow-up post, His Lordship stated that Rick Hamm believed His Lordship was responsible for the hacking of Syn's forums, and convinced Lord Xin to give his S4 forum account administrative permissions.[4]

In 2020, His Lordship expressed strong criticism in regards to Syn's historical account, and denied any involvement in the hacking of Syn's forums. His Lordship stated that he was the leader of one of the most honour-bound clans in existence, often prioritising the honour code over WG's own prosperity. Syn's history is also known to have several other errors, such as describing WG itself as an exodus of The Sabres as a result of His Lordship being unhappy with TS's leadership - this is entirely false.

A few days after the hacking of WG's forums, on 6 September 2004 His Lordship asked for a volunteer diplomat to discuss relations with Syn in a move to mend ties. Nonetheless, Eragon Cd accepted the offer of peace and a neutral stance between Syn and WG - ending the rivalry.[5]

Alliance

2004

WG and Syn on a joint PK trip, September 2004

Once peace between the clans had been established, clan relations began to improve over the course of September - with Syn and WG soon having joint PK trips and fighting clans such as Fear together.[6] On 26 September 2004, Lord Xin held a clan poll asking what the clan members wanted WG's stance on Syn to be. Of 21 votes, 16 (76%) wanted an alliance, 5 (24%) wanted to maintain neutrality, and none wanted Syn as an enemy.[7]

Around the beginning of October of 2004, Eragon Cd and His Lordship sat down for a discussion and overcame their differences. An alliance between WG and Syn was officially made on 2 October 2004.[8] The alliance proved hugely successful, with Syn being one of WG's most active allies throughout the end of 2004. Syn was invited to join WG on their weekly European PK trip, and many successful allied trips were held.[9] Syn were also invited to WG's first anniversary celebrations, and took part in two fun wars in December 2004 and January 2005.

2005

In early 2005, Eragon Cd fell into inactivity and Wiz Ma Ter became the second leader of Syn.[10] He was eventually removed by Eragon Cd and replaced by Maddmurdok after internal disputes[11], which resulted in several exodi. The first clans to break away from Syn were Death Jesters, Sleeping Dragons, Omega, and Rune Titans over the course of January and February 2005 - these were also the first second-generation clans to have originated from WG. Eragon Cd also temporarily stepped down and gave leadership of Syn to Kanchellsis around 16 January 2005[12] - though she left Syn to found SD shortly afterwards, and Eragon Cd returned to leadership. Several Syn members also left to rejoin WG or BlacKnights, which resulted in a loss of nearly all of Syn's members.[13] In mid-2005, RT closed and members returned to Syn, as well as several from Omega, bringing stablity back to the clan with approximately 200 or more members.[14]

Syn and allies vs DL and allies, 9 April 2005

Syn also developed a rivalry with the clan Death Legions. After several hours of fighting, the ARPK alliance managed to clear DL and the other PK clans, though DL attempted to return and claim a win for themselves afterwards.[15]

Around May of 2005, Syn and WG were two of six clans which helped reform The Federation. The reiteration of the syndicate was considered significantly more active and successful than the first - however disputes arose, and WG withdrew on 30 September 2005, but maintained their alliance with Syn.

2006

The last mention of Syn in WG's written history comes from early 2006, when WG was unfortunately paired against them in a fansite-hosted clan tournament, though further details of the battle or the tournament have not been recorded. Syn's historical records state that the clan continued to grow steadily and climb the ranks, reaching their peak around May of 2006. Syn hosted PK trips multiple times per week with consistent pulls of over 30 members, and engaged in short-preparation fights almost daily. During the first week of May 2006, Syn were ranked at #24.

In the same month, Syn sent out declarations of war to several elite clans, one of which was accepted by Awaken (a predecessor of the better known Violent Resolution), who were ranked #14. This sequence of events reduced Syn down to around six members by July of 2006[16][17], with over 90 members leaving within the span of around ten days.[18]

In mid-July of 2006, Syn were removed from WG's list of allies and replaced with TC. According to Jlushin (then Leader of Syn), WG transferred their alliance to TC as His Lordship and other WG members did not approve of Jlushin as the Syn Leader, and allied events had been in decline throughout 2006.[19] There are no mentions of the alliance with TC in WG's written history.

On 17 November 2006, Syn leader Skatekid930 announced that the alliance between Syn and WG had been restored, and included plans for an allied P2P PK trip on the 19th.[20]

2007

WG vs Syn in a steel war, January 2007

On 19 January 2007, WG and Syn fought each other in a fun steel war - WG brought around 30 members and defeated Syn with relative ease.[21]

In June of 2007, WG hosted a multi-clan Fight Pits event, and offered Syn a direct invitation - saying that the clan had an "impact" on WG in the past.[22]

Post-Alliance

Syn remained active throughout 2007 until the changes to PvP combat and trade which occured on 10 December 2007. Syn attempted to adapt to Bounty Hunter, but on 19 February 2008 the area was made into a single-combat zone, effectively removing all opportunity for dangerous multi PvP within the game.

The last interaction between Syn and WG was on 29 February 2008, when WG offered Syn a F2P CWA miniwar.[23]

Attempts to work as a clan in single combat were unsuccessful, and the Syn leadership (Jin 89 rc and Jlushin as Supercoke) made the decision to close the clan on 21 April 2008[24], after approximately four years.[25]

Two video compilations in memory of the clan were uploaded by dragonfr575:

Exodi

Syn had a total of eight exodi over the course of its lifetime:

Syn also had a junior clan, The Synergizers, several members of which joined the pre-existing clan Valeria Victrix[26] - though this is not considered to be an "exodus", as VV had existed prior to the Syn members joining.
